WHO: Match and Tessa WHAT: Match helps Tessa against some soldiers, then helps her face her worst nightmare. WHEN: During the temples plot WARNINGS: Violence STATUS: Complete
Match was flying, low and carefully, across the city, helping where he could, and trying his best to assist where and when he could. He had felt like he was running into all sorts of problems, including his heat vision not working for most of the week. It was working just fine now, which helped, but the bad guys were deadlier too.
When he heard a shout, he shot downward toward where it was coming from and was startled to see some thugs harassing his friend Tessa!
He shot downward, not bothering to conceal what he could do, and landed in front of them, slapping one with the force to send him stumbling back and onto his ass.
“I think its time for you boys to go home.” His eyes shone brilliant rd and the guns three of them had started turning bright red and burned their hands, making them drop them.
“Go!” He projected his voice letting it hit them like a hurricane.
That was all it took for them to flee, running away from Tessa and he as fast as they could go.
***
Tessa had thought there was enough time to check up on the shop before any of the soldiers got to it, but apparently the news channels hadn’t counted on small patrols breaking off from the main groups.
She’d had her back to the street, locking the front door to the shop, so she hadn’t seen them approaching. It wasn’t until she’d turned around that she’d noticed them.
She’d fended off the first couple of hits, thanks to her training with Will and Jem, but when she felt a fist connecting with the side of her face, she stumbled back against the glass door as they grabbed at her.
Covering her face, she didn’t see what had caused them to run off until she peeked out from under her arm. Seeing Match in front of her and the soldiers running away, she started to try and stand from her crouched position. “Match?” she asked quietly.
***
“Yeah, Tessa. I heard your cry. Came as fast as I could.” He turned halfway to her, moving toward her while making sure the bad guys were still running. He finally turned toward her fully.
He smiled worriedly at her, eyes flicking to the side of her face. “Hey, are you going to be alright?” he gently touched her arm, worried.
“I’m not going to let those yahoos bother you anymore.”
***
Tessa frowned, pressing her hand to her cheek where she found some skin split open. Wincing as her fingers touched the wound. The punch had been particularly accurate and hard, her neck still ached from the impact too. She gave him a little, thankful smile as she stood up. “Thank you. Where did you come from? I didn’t see you,” she wondered aloud, her voice sounding far away to herself.
***.
Match gestured upward. “I was patrolling. I have been since this all started. Sweeping the entire county.” He chuckled. “I’m afraid I never quite told you what the dreams did to me. They changed me, gave me abilities.”
His lips twisted into a lopsided, half okay, half irritated smile. “They come in handy, sometimes.”
He gently started guiding her toward a clear spot.
“Maybe we should get you home.”
***
“What sort of abilities?” Tessa asked as she walked with him. She looked back over her shoulder at the shop, reassuring herself that she had locked the door before the attack. “I should...I should text Will and Jem, let them know I’m safe…” she trailed off. The world felt like it was far away right now. Despite having been in the OC for many moons and living through various...invasions, she had never really been on the front line before. It was a bit of a shock.
***
“Fight, strength, toughness, enhanced senses, heat vision, superbreath, super speed… and a few others.” He grinned at her.
“Definitely do that. With the way things are today, they are probably worrying.” he noticed her dazed look and stopped, pulling her into a little niche in the wall, out of sight. “Hey, are you okay? You look a little out of it.”
***
“Superbreath,” Tessa chuckled as he guided her to lean against the wall. “I just feel a bit...woozy is all. I've trained with Will and Jem before but...I guess they were pulling their punches,” she wondered out loud, pressing her fingers to her wound and pulling them away bloody.
***
“:Yep. Super---oh shit.” He stared and winved. “We need to get you out of here, Tessa and to a doctor.” He gently gathered her close.
“How are you with heights? And do you have a preferred doctor?” She was bleeding! Shit!
***
“Um, no, no preferred doctor really. Very rarely go,” Tessa told him.
“I...heights?” Tessa asked, looking up automatically before looking back at Match. “Oh yeah, flying,” she smiled at him. “Umm...I’ve not had a problem with heights before, but flying is a whole new ball game so...who knows,” she joked. “I guess we’ll find out,” she gave a little nervous laugh.
***
“I wont let you fall.” He smiled as he pulled her close, then with a will, they were in the sky, his warmth and field wrapped around her. The wind would not bother them, nor cool air.
“I’ll get you to a hospital, and get you treated, and we can call you people.” He remembered she had a complicated thing.
It would not take long to get to the hospital as they soared over the city.
***
Tessa couldn’t help but scream as he launched them into the air, clutching around his neck and hiding her face against his shoulder.
“Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!” she repeated, not daring to look up.
***
He held her close, gently. “It’s okay. I promise you won’t fall.” He smiled softly. “Are you going to be okay?” He arrowed toward a hospital swiftly, wanting her down, and treated, as soon as possible.
When he landed in front of the emergency doors, he carefully steadied her, holding on until she was ready to stand. “Tessa? Can you stand to walk some?”
***
“Jeez, well...that was an experience,” Tessa laughed as he set her down. She’d braved a look at the landscape as they’d flown and it had been amazing, truly awe-inspiring to see the city spread out beneath them. “Thank you, Match, you’re most kind bringing me here. I should be fine to walk, but, would you mind coming in with me? Just till I’m booked in to be seen? I’ll message Jem and Will now we’re here and they probably won’t be long till they’re here,” she told him.
***
“You’re welcome, and maybe sometime we can take a slower, nicer flight. I would love to show a friend the world from my view.” He nodded to her. He would definitely come with her.
“Of course. What are friends for, Tessa?” he walked with her toward the doors, waving for aid. He wanted her helped, and he wanted her seen. He did not like her bleeding like that, not at all.
