Having seen Freya and Klaus, Finn’s next stop was to surprise Elijah. With more of his siblings knowing he was back, it was going to be more difficult to surprise Kol and Rebekah, so he was planning to text them both after he saw Elijah. He had decided that the best place to surprise his brother was at work. He had gotten Elijah’s schedule from Freya and decided to wait for him to leave the museum.
Elijah hadn’t been expecting surprises, but it was difficult to surprise man who could detect heartbeats. He’d memorized quite a few. He knew Freya’s and Ezio’s. He could pick them out in the middle of a crowd. Klaus’ heart was practically memorized. Finn only managed a surprise because he hadn’t yet had to use his abilities to pick him out. He made his way out of work, glad for a moment to himself now. It had been a long day, but a good day. Now he just wanted to get home.
Finn had been waiting near the main entrance of the museum, watching each person who left, looking to see if they might be his brother. However, his brother was hard to miss considering there weren’t very many people who visited the museum wearing suits, it seemed. Spotting his brother, he approached him with a friendly smile, “Hello, brother.”
Elijah stilled at the sound of his brother’s voice and looked over. For a moment, he wasn’t sure how to react. The dreams had made things complicated, but this Finn was not that Finn and he couldn’t hold the Finn he’d been dreaming of against the one he’d grown up with. Especially not when he’d hope that none of his siblings would hold the person he was in the dreams against him. “Finn.” There was a warmth in his voice and he stepped closer to give his brother a hug.
“How long have you been back? Why didn’t you call?”
Finn returned the hug and smiled back at his brother, “Only a few weeks. I had wanted to surprise you all separately.” He knew it had been a longshot that he’d actually succeed in surprising each of his siblings separately, but so far he’d been doing well, “I’d intended to do this sooner, but then….well, I’m still not exactly sure what all that was.” All Finn knew for sure was that there had been some sort of invasion or something just after he came back. He was still figuring that out.
“Only a few weeks he says.” Elijah was teasing him, but still, so much time had passed. But he would not focus on that. He would focus on the fact that Finn was here. “I'll let you off this time, but next time I can't promise.” Ah. The delights of the OC. “That is what you have to look forward to, brother. Things are always a little unusual.” Finn didn't know how unusual. Three siblings were vampires. But he did not reveal it. Not yet. “How have you been? Tell me everything.”
“Well hopefully there won’t be a next time. I’m planning on staying for some time,” While he hadn’t planned on moving back at this time, he currently wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon, “I’ve been good. Aside from working for our mother, I’ve been simply enjoying Paris.” Finn would miss the museums and the food and just the atmosphere, but he had missed his siblings as well as quite a lot in their lives while he had been living there. Besides, it wasn’t like he could never go back to Paris on vacation. “And what about you? What brought you back here?” He had known that Elijah had moved back a few months ago, but hadn’t known exactly why he had chosen to.
“Good.” He felt a slight spike of panic about it, but he didn’t say anything. He didn’t want to make the mistake of making another family member think he wasn’t happy to see them. He was. It was just that he knew what would come from it. He felt dread settling in deep because it wasn’t like it took a long time before the dreams started. They would start with Finn.
When Finn mentioned their mother, Elijah’s expression shuttered and he looked down at the ground. Again he neglected to say anything. “Hm? Oh, I have been working here. I wasn’t really away, just working to get a few things together for an exhibit.” He shrugged slightly, glancing behind him. “There was paperwork and people to schmooze. All fun things, naturally.” But he had never really been very far. Not even when he was in school. He’d taken on the role of looking after Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik once everyone else had gone. “Now I don’t really think I could leave.” For multiple reasons.
“Are you busy? I need a couple more boxes. I am in the process of moving.”
“Isn’t people schmoozing what we’re supposed to be best at?” It was certainly one of the things their father had tried to teach them early on. Finn’s brows rose slightly, “Moving? I assume you mean within the county.” After all, Elijah had just said he had no intention of leaving. “I have nothing to do for the rest of the day. I can help however you’d like.”
“It is, yes.” Elijah was fairly skilled in the art, but it didn’t always work with everyone. It was all about reading the person you were talking to and tailoring yourself just a little to fit them. For that moment anyway. “Ah. Yes. I do mean within the county lines. Ezio asked me to move in with him, so I agreed.” It wasn’t what he’d expected after the talk he had with his lover, but...it was what had been asked and he’d been happy about it. If there was happiness, Elijah figured it was best to go after it since he seemed to have a problem with that in the dreams.
“Then we will go get boxes. And you will tell me everything I’ve missed since we talked last.”
Finn smiled in response to Elijah’s response, “That’s wonderful, Elijah. I’m glad you’ve found somebody.” Unlike their parents, Finn didn’t care about the gender of his siblings’ significant others. All that he cared about was that they were happy and the person they loved loved them back and was good to them. “I think that sounds like a fantastic idea.”
