Who: Laura and Aurora What: Laura finally takes Aurora dancing When: Recent Where: a club Status: complete Rating: PG-13
Aurora made for the best pillow, and Laura had felt much better after being held. She’d even admitted that she’d liked that. Her dreams hadn’t continued after driving Logan for awhile, and while she worried about what they’d bring, she could at least distract herself with helping people and trying to not fall completely head over heels for Aurora.
She was finally taking her clubbing. They could lose themselves in the noise and the dancing and Laura was probably going to regret that choice by the time the night was over.
She came to get Aurora, wearing appropriate clubbing gear - short skirt, fishnet leggings and a fishnet top over what was basically a sport’s bra. She also had a lot of mostly silver (and cheap) jewellry, and somewhat gothic make-up. What? She had a style and she stuck to it. Goth-lite.
Aurora’s best attempt at ‘club gear’ was a blue dress that was tight on top, but still managed to flare out a little on the bottom, but it did come only a little past her mid thigh...which was a little short for Aurora’s style. She tried not to think about it too much despite the fact that she couldn’t stop smoothing her dress down. She hoped she wasn’t the strangest looking person in the club. She definitely didn’t look anything like Laura, which she was okay with in a way. She wasn’t really sure what to say or where to look because...well...there was a lot to notice.
“I...hi.” She cleared her throat, smoothing the skirt of her dress down again. “I feel overdressed.” A blush crept into her cheeks and she peered down at her shoes, which were just a simple pair of canvas shoes. They were a light yellow color. “And like I’m going to a school function or something.” One day, maybe she’d let Laura pick her dress out. Maybe.
“Um...so...where are we going?”
Today, Laura had borrowed the truck. She thought that would be easier if Aurora had been wearing a dress. And she was, so it was a good choice.
It was a pretty dress, and very much Aurora. Laura looked her over. Even though it was just a cute dress, it was shorter than Aurora usually wore and Laura liked that. Aurora was being daring, but it was the adorable sort of daring.
"Hi." Laura cleared her throat, then said more normally. "Hey. You look... nice. Like legs. You. Like you. I like you. Looking like you."
Ugh.
Aurora smiled a little, nervously fidgeting with the hem of her dress. She hadn’t really understood people’s whole ‘butterflies in the stomach’ comments until recently. She felt like she wasn’t just queen of the butterflies, but also filled with them. In her stomach, her chest, trying to escape through her throat.
“Thanks,” she said quietly. “I like you’re...um...everything, really. I…” She blushed even more. “It’s nice.” Her hand lifted for a moment, like she was going to reach out, but it dropped a moment later, which was probably more awkward than just reaching over. She was trying.
They were inside Laura too. She came closer, hugging Aurora, as much out of needing physical contact as thinking Aurora could use the hug. They were both messes right now and Laura could almost hear her sister's taunting her. Perhaps a good thing that Gabby wasn't actually around, she'd never let Laura hear the end of it.
"Ready to go?" She pulled away, just a little.
Aurora happily accepted the hug, leaning lightly against Laura as she did. She didn’t really have family to tease her or taunt her. Her parents were there now. Not always, but more than they had been, but they were not really the teasing sort. It was okay, though. She preferred the hugs and the trips to botanical gardens.
There was a quick nod at Laura’s words. “Yes. I’m ready.” She wasn’t sure she was ready, but she was pretty sure that as long as Laura was there, she would be okay. “I’m pretty sure I’ve only been to school dances, but sometimes people dance questionably at those, so probably I already know what it’s like.”
“It’s a lot of questionable dancing but I won’t let anyone bother you,” Laura promised. She didn’t promise she wouldn’t dance questionably herself.
She guided Aurora to the truck and opened the door for her. “Logan let me borrow it. I didn’t think you wanted to be on the motorcycle like this.”
“At least there's that.” Aurora wasn't sure she wanted to be bothered by basically anyone. Except Laura. Laura could bother her. Anyone she didn't know was out, which probably meant Aurora would follow her around all night. She hoped that wouldn't get annoying.
“It might be a little difficult on the motorcycle. Just because the skirt is so short with this dress.” She really didn't want to show the world her underwear or anything. “I'll tell Logan thank you later, then.”
“I don’t mind,” Laura said, eyes falling to Aurora’s legs. She caught herself and focused instead on the wheel, and starting the truck, and the driving thing. She took some breaths to steady herself. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to make this awkward.”
She didn’t used to have those kind of thoughts about Aurora. But she was so pretty. And sweet. And kind. And pretty. And kind.
Aurora blushed, eyes focused on her knees at that moment. She couldn’t say no one had ever flirted with her or made strange comments about things, but it was different with Laura. She never really expected it. But it was possibly just that she’d always seen herself as cute, but not...someone that people really had questionable thoughts about. Apparently Laura did. Only Aurora didn’t really know what to say back. “It’s...I’m just not used to...everything.” Very vague.
She cleared her throat, looking up at Laura with her cheeks still burning. “It’s fine, really. I’ve just never...um...I’m not very good at this kind of flirting. Or any, probably.”
“Okay.” Laura reached over, taking Aurora’s hand and squeezing it. She realized she actually had more experience this time, both with Rapunzel awake and Warren in her dreams. Even if Warren had been horrible for her.
“We can figure it out together. A lot of this isn’t… I’ve dated before. But you’re different so it’s different. I don’t want to mess it up.”
Aurora squeezed back, smiling a little. At least Laura didn’t think she was weird or anything for not knowing a lot about everything. She’d kissed one person before, but she didn’t really think about it a lot. It had only happened once. Then again, it wasn’t like she’d kissed Laura a lot either. She wanted to, though. Kiss her more...than just once.
“You haven’t messed anything up. Promise.” She wasn’t sure that she would either. Maybe if she didn’t listen or pay attention to things, but she didn’t think that Laura was that sort of person, so she wasn’t too worried. “It’s good to try new things, right?”
Laura nodded. “I’m learning that.” She thought about kissing Aurora again. She’d thought about it a lot. She didn’t think she was dwelling on it or acting lovesick or anything silly like that. But she’d thought about it.
She was leaving it up to Aurora to initiate another one.
The club had bright lights and heavy music that bumped and thudded through the walls as Laura pulled up. She leaned over Aurora, opening the glove compartment to pull out a pair of ear plugs. She put them in her ears. “I’ll still be able to hear you, but this way the music won’t hurt me. Super hearing has its downsides.”
Aurora felt her heart beating faster when Laura leaned over. But then she opened the glovebox and Aurora felt silly for letting herself react to something so simple. It was just someone moving closer. It didn't mean anything. She hoped the surprise hadn't registered on her face and pushed forward a smile in an attempt to conceal any possible expression.
“It's definitely loud,” she commented as she turned her attention to the club. Carefully, she climbed out of the truck so that she could go inside. She waited for Laura to join her before she started walking toward the entrance. “You'll have to help me with the dancing, probably. I've never really the questionable kind if dancing, so I might need some basic instruction.” Which probably wasn't entirely true. She could probably figure it out by watching, but she was feeling a little daring today, so she thought it couldn't hurt to ask for help. Even when it might not have been needed.
Laura caught up to Aurora and started to take her hand before she thought better of it. Instead, she put her arm around Aurora’s waist. The bouncer let them in, and she pulled Aurora in protectively close as they entered. “He knows me,” She said, by way of explaining why they weren’t carded. She wasn’t planning on drinking though. Instead she pulled Aurora to the dance floor.
Aurora smiled a little at the arm around her waist. She had been confused about the fact they didn’t carded (she had managed to get a fake one just in case she needed it, but apparently she hadn’t), but Laura’s explanation explained it. Even if she wasn’t sure whether that was a positive thing or not. She guessed it didn’t matter in the long run.
Like Laura, Aurora wasn’t planning on drinking. Not even if she was nervous about dancing with the other girl. She was pretty sure that her whole body was vibrating because of the music, but she focused on Laura.
“I drank him under the table. He swore me to silence.” Laura grinned, sliding her hands down Aurora’s sides and then resting them on her hips. The fabric felt too thin under her hands. Or maybe that was just her imagination.
“Follow my lead.” She guided Aurora’s hips with her hands as she started to move her own.
The additional explanation made her laugh. “That explains a lot.” But she really couldn't imagine Laura drinking that much. Maybe because the idea of drinking that much seemed like something more since she hadn't had anything since the one time her aunties left wine out and she'd tried it. Her head hurt a lot the next day.
Aurora wasn't entirely certain she felt differently from Laura. Even though she knew it was stupid, it was like her hands were on her skin even though they weren't. But she forced herself to relax enough to move with her movements. She'd also had to remind herself to breathe so she didn't faint on the spot.
Alcohol did nothing to Laura. It was funny, in her dreams she hated beer, but she loved it here. At least no one would be able to roofie her (for long anyway). Either way, she preferred the idea of just sticking close to Aurora and getting drunk off of her scent.
Which was a romantic thought. She was pleased with herself for it.
Someone bumped into her, and she slid her hands around to Aurora’s lower back, pulling her until there was no space between them. “You’re doing good.”
She might have croaked the words out.
Aurora blinked when they got closer and she let her arms move around Laura's neck. She had done this before, but not exactly this. Just the arms around her waist and her arms around someone's neck. She'd danced with plenty of people at the school dances, but she couldn't ever remember feeling the way she did now. Her face felt warm and so did the rest of her.
She didn’t really register what Laura said because the music was so loud and she was so distracted. There was a quick smile, something she hoped was the right reaction to words she hadn’t really gotten outside of “good”. There was a moment of hesitation before she leaned in for a kiss. It seemed like the appropriate time. Maybe she was supposed to be focusing on dancing, but everything told her to kiss Laura.
It was making Laura’s night that Aurora was so blushy and nervous. Mostly because it was cute, but it was also a good sign. Laura could sense a change in her scent too, and the speed of her pulse. Heightened senses meant cheating, but it could be useful.
Despite that, she didn’t catch what Aurora was doing until she was being kissed. She leaned up into it, feeling suddenly, wonderfully dizzy.
Aurora really only had Laura’s habit of saying things to go by. Saying what she was thinking was basically the only way for her to really know. Well, that and all the stuttering whenever she’d worn something even a little short. It wasn’t heightened senses or anything, but it was pretty easy to spot now that she knew it was there. She hadn’t known how she’d missed it before, but she guessed everyone missed things from time to time.
She wasn’t really sure how long kisses were supposed to last, but she pulled back after a moment, looking somewhat sheepish. “Was that okay?” Because it wasn’t like she had tons of practice and she really hoped it wasn’t terrible.
Laura was also hiding it less. Not that she'd hid it very well to begin with, but with Aurora's general obliviousness it had been enough. Now, though, that kiss had left her face flushed and she smiled up at Aurora's. "Very okay."
The song changed, and she started to move to the new music, though she didn't tear her eyes from Aurora's. "This is good... right?"
She hadn’t messed it up. Aurora felt relieved that Laura seemed to have enjoyed the kiss enough to be flushed. She hadn’t expected that. Probably because she’d figured that she was the one with the awkward blushing problem and that Laura was pretty chill about things for the most part. Except for when she was stumbling over her words, but that was a different matter entirely.
Laura’s question warranted a nod. “Yeah. It’s good. I mean...I don’t know why it wouldn’t be good. Unless something was wrong...but it’s not.” Aurora wasn’t usually prone to rambling, but apparently today was one of those exceptions.
As always, Aurora’s adorableness made Laura smile, and she felt that sucking chest wound feeling she’d been experiencing more and more lately. She started to dance them out of the crowd, torn between wanting to get away from people, and wanting to keep Aurora’s body plastered against her own.
“I don’t want you to feel like you’re pressured into something you’re not comfortable with,” Laura said, as they moved. It had been on her mind lately too.
Aurora allowed herself to me pulled away from everyone and she gave Laura a small smile. “I’ll tell you if there’s anything that I need time with.” She glanced down. “I’m fine with kissing and dancing and everything.” She just....wasn’t sure that she was fine with much past that. At least not now. Maybe eventually. But for now, she was still figuring everything out, still trying to sort what it all meant.
“Just...let’s keep it to kissing for now. Until later. I’ll let you know when I’m ready for...other things.”
Laura nodded. She tended to go back and forth on that kind of thing herself, not really thinking in terms of sex until she was really into someone otherwise. Which had been a growing thing with Aurora. But she could live with kissing her, and holding her. She did the latter just then, leaning up and kissing the side of Aurora’s face. “Whatever you want, we’ll do. Kissing. Cuddling. More. There isn’t much that’s on my no list.”
She only added that last part to make Aurora blush.
And she did blush, but only a little. She didn’t know what was on the list of things that she didn’t want to do. She guessed that she’d know it when it happened, but for now, she was happy to just...let herself figure out kissing and whatever else. “I’ll let you know. I promise.” There was a brief pause. “But I’m okay with this. The dancing and stuff. As long as it’s you with me. Everything else we can figure out later.”
Leaning in, Laura kissed Aurora. While there was just a hint of hunger and need behind it, it was mostly sweet and gentle. “Let's dance some more.”
