Now that he had seen Freya and their parents, it was time for Finn to drop in on their other siblings. He had found out that Klaus was currently staying with Kol, so he’d thought seeing them next would make the most sense since he could surprise them both at the same time as well as see his niece. He had yet to actually see the little girl, because he had been too busy in Paris when Kol’s wife had died and simply couldn’t get away. He regretted it of course, but there had been no way around it.
He had given himself a day since he had run into Freya and gone to see their parents the same day he’d arrived back in Orange County and had been extremely exhausted from jet lag once he’d gotten home from their parents’. After a good night’s rest, he had headed over to surprise two of his younger brothers.
Of course, Finn having just returned to town two days earlier had no knowledge of the strange things that went one from time to time aside from the fact that it seemed to snow the last few years in December, so he was unaware of the fact that a day earlier zombies had begun to rise. Somehow he managed to avoid any or simply didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary as he drove over to Kol’s place.
Reaching the house, he’d found a parking spot on the street then headed up the walk and rang the doorbell.
Klaus’s return to Orange County had been eventful to say the least. Freya was also in town which was about the only plus. The strange dreams, and Marcel also showing up? Those were things Klaus would have preferred to avoid. And now there were zombies and demons running around. What the hell?
Klaus had made sure to check on Freya numerous times. She was probably sick of all the texts he had sent her, but he didn’t care. The fact that she was dead in the dreams made him paranoid something was going to happen to her. That was something Klaus wouldn’t be able to bear. Soon he would go back to Elijah’s to check on her. Demons be damned. He was in the middle of texting her to tell her exactly that when the doorbell rang.
With a sigh, Klaus stood up and went to go answer the door. Once he did and saw who it was a grin spread across his face. “Finn,” he greeted stepping aside to let his brother enter. “I didn’t know you were in town.”
Finn smiled at the sight of his brother, “That’s because I wanted it to be a surprise.” Stepping into the house, he glanced around at the inside of Kol’s house then turned back to Klaus, “And it would appear I’ve been successful so far. I was half expecting mother to tell the rest of you that I was back,” Esther and Mikael had said they weren’t going to tell the others, but their parents couldn’t always be very trustworthy. “Is Kol home?”
Klaus didn’t even bother trying to hide the scowl that came across his face at the mention of their parents. “I wouldn’t have been included in that family memo,” Klaus countered. Although he was sure one of his brothers would have mentioned if Finn was in town. Especially Kol. He and Freya seemed to be the only ones happy to see him. “Ah, so that’s who you came here to see.” There was that hint of bitterness in Niklaus’s tone. Yes, it made sense considering this was Kol’s home, but just once he would like to feel like he mattered to the rest of the family. Instead of just being the bastard brother Mikael liked to use for a punching bag.
“You should know, they do know you’re here.” Finn wasn’t positive how Esther knew that Klaus was back in town, but it was assumed that someone who knew their parents must have seen Klaus and told them. “You and Freya coming back was one of the reasons I decided to come back as well.” He shook his head when he noted the tone in Klaus’ voice, “I had thought I could surprise you both at the same time.” No matter what anyone said or thought about Klaus, as far as Finn was concerned, he was was his brother regardless of how much blood they shared.
“I figured as much,” Klaus shrugged. He didn’t care what Mikael and Esther knew. As long as she didn't have to deal with them. “It is rare that all of us are together.” It hadn't happened since they were children. Of course Henrik was still missing but six out of seven wasn't bad. “Kol’s not home at the moment. I’m not sure where he went.” Klaus hadn’t been paying too much attention.
Finn knew, very well, that Klaus and their parents did not get along well and had not for some time, so he wasn’t exactly surprised that Klaus wouldn’t tell their parents that he was back in town. “I for one am glad that we’re all here. Granted, I’ve only seen Freya, and now you, but eventually we will all have to have dinner together.” He knew that having all six of them together was potential for drama, but he hoped that over the years they had all matured enough that they could have a nice dinner together. “I’ll have to call Kol later then. No use in trying to run around looking for him.”
“A sibling dinner,” Klaus clarified. Elijah had mentioned doing something similar as well. Klaus wasn’t opposed to having all the siblings together. As long as Esther and Mikael weren’t around. “Or you can wait here,” Klaus suggested. Although who knew when Kol would be back. “Have a drink, catch up.”
Finn nodded, “A sibling dinner. I have no doubt that there is quite a lot I’ve missed over the last couple of years. Much more than I actually know about.” If he was honest, Finn didn’t actually know what Rebekah was up to these days and aside from Kol being a single father, he didn’t really know what else his other younger brother was doing. And as for Henrik, last Finn had heard, he was at school. “I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to wait, but I will take a drink, if you’re offering.”
Finn wasn’t the only one. Klaus had missed quite a lot as well. He had been so focussed on making a name for himself, apart from his family. But now he just wanted that connection back, the bond he had once shared with his siblings. Klaus led the way into the kitchen grabbing two glasses from the cabinet. “What’s your poison?” he asked his brother, it had been awhile since he last had drinks with Finn.
Finn followed Klaus into the kitchen, taking in Kol’s home as he went. It wasn’t surprising that Kol would have a nice home; he was Mikaelson after all and regardless of what they each did, having nice things was ingrained in them. “Does he have any whiskey?” Finn wasn’t sure how much alcohol Kol would have on hand, seeing as he was now a single father, but he assumed he must have some assortment. He doubted that his brother had quit drinking altogether just because he had a baby in the house.
“He does,” Klaus said grabbing a bottle of whiskey, pouring it into each glass. He handed one to his brother making their way back to the couch. “So tell me. How was Paris?” Although he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear about Esther’s organizations at all. Hopefully Finn could just keep it to his experiences in general.
Finn thanked his brother for the glass and followed him to the couch, taking a sip once he was situated, “It was quiet and relaxing and I’ll admit, I’m going to miss it, but I thought it was time to come back.” Finn had done more than simply work during his time in Paris, but he had never been the type to go out and party till all hours of the night. “And what brought you back? I thought you’d never leave New Orleans.”
There it was the question Klaus hated answering. Freya knew the truth. And he had eventually told Elijah as well. Now that Marcel was in town he was sure even more people would find out. Still he didn’t want to discuss it right now. And not with Finn. He had that close connection with Esther. Klaus didn’t want the information getting back to his mother. “It was time for a change,” Klaus shrugged. “I must admit, I miss it.”
Finn may have been closer to their mother than most of them, but he would never tell her something one of them told him in confidence. Unless something was particularly troubling, he usually kept it to himself. So even if Klaus had told him the truth, it would have stayed between them and not reached Esther unless Klaus told her, which wasn’t likely to happen. “I don’t blame you. The few times I was able to visit, I could see why you liked New Orleans. I was the same way with Paris, but eventually everyone needs a change of scenery.” Even if it was to return to familiar scenery.
“Well,” Klaus began taking a sip of his drink. “I’m glad you returned.” Yes he was changing the subject away from what happened in New Orleans. “It’s nice to have almost the whole family in one place.” All they needed was Henrik.
