Kenzi's soul had been sent back to the world of the living. That had been good.
What had not been so good was that Bo ended up in Tartarus.
Trying to navigate the maze was horrible, but she'd met someone willing to help her, so she took the help. Especially after she'd been bitten by a goblin and needed healing. Which in retrospect was a very bad idea considering Bo found out the woman was none other than Persephone, wife of Hades. And it was also revealed that Hades was Bo's father. So, essentially, she'd slept with her stepmother. To say that she was angry was an understatement, and Bo wanted to confront her father. Instead, upon opening a door, she found the nursery that she'd seen in her Dawning. The cage in the room, she was told, was where her mother had been kept. And she learned that she'd been born in Hel.
After finding the Artemis Candle, Bo vowed to never become what her father intended her to be, only to get attacked by him. However, she fought him off, and ultimately escaped Hel, exiting through the Gates of Valhalla that Dyson was holding open. While she was happy to see Kenzi again, this time in the land of the living, Kenzi ultimately said she needed to leave and try to live a normal life. Hale had left her some land, and she was going to go there. It was hard, but Bo wasn't going to stand in Kenzi's way, knowing she needed space after everything that had happened.
Whatever joy and relief that Bo'd had the previous day upon saving Kenzi was now gone and replaced with a lot of dread and angst. Bo had gone through her morning routine after waking and went directly into her office space, shutting the door and locking it. She was on emotional overload with the sudden battering of dreams she'd had the past few nights. It was too much to handle, and instead of working out, Bo put on headphones and blasted loud music in her ears as she sat at her desk and pressed her head down against it.
Hades was her father. King of the Underworld. He was the one that had held her mother prisoner, the one that had caused Aife to lose her mind.
Bo twisted her fingers into her hair as she kept her forehead pressed against her desk. She was trying to drown out the emotions with music, but it wasn't quite working.
Kenzi was gone in the dreams as well, and Bo wasn't certain how to handle that either. Would Kenzi leave here as well? She definitely wouldn't blame her. It was a lot of shit to deal with, and all she wanted was for Kenzi to be happy and life the life she wanted to. Bo wasn't going to stand in her way.
She hadn't realized that she'd started crying until she sniffed and lifted her head. She wiped some tears from her eyes when something caught her eye. Looking over, she saw the Artemis Candle was sitting there.
It's important to let the light in, Bo. Sometimes that's all it takes to keep the evil away.
Part of her was tempted to light the candle, but she managed to stifle that impulse. She just stared at it for a while, thoughts drifting from Persephone to Hades to Kenzi. Burying her face in her hands, Bo made an emotionally frustrated noise into them before she lowered her head and tangled her hands into her hair again. She had no will to get up and do anything. She had her phone with her and would, eventually, respond to any messages she needed to. Luckily she'd already gotten time off from Logan after she'd dreamt of Kenzi's death the other night, so she didn't have to worry about that.
What she did worry about was what she was going to dream next. Her dream self had lit the candle. What would that mean? And what would she do without Kenzi around? Sure she still had Tamsin, Dyson, Trick and Lauren but none of them were Kenzi.
"Jesus fuck," she cursed as she sniffed again and just desperately tried to lose herself in music. She wouldn't be able to hear Lara if she knocked on the door, but she did move around now and then, making enough noise to let her wife know she was alive and physically there. Mentally, Bo was far away.
And she really wanted and needed a break from her dreams. She was at her breaking point with what she could handle. So for now, she was going to hope losing herself in music would eventually calm her enough where she felt like she could leave her room.
Or maybe instead she'd go locate Grimm and "kidnap" him to keep him with her for a while. Actually that sounded like an excellent idea. Cats were a calming influence, and Grimm had taken to her. Bo left her room only long enough to find Grimm, pluck him from where he was and take him back to her room, once more locking herself in. At least he didn't seem to protest much after Bo settled down with him. Hopefully he would help calm her down.
Though she was afraid to sleep and find out what horrors would await her next in the dreams.
