True to their word both Integra and Alucard had paid numerous visits to Irisa, both together and separately, since she had moved into Athos’ old place. She appeared to be settling in well and Myrcella had set up a weekly movie night which he knew Irisa enjoyed.
Today he decided to drop by and see how she was doing, without Integra he was able to simply appear at her home and he did so. Materialising in the kitchen where she was preparing coffee with what looked like bed head, “You are aware it is the afternoon?” he queried with a raised eyebrow.
Irisa turned to glare at him over her shoulder, coffee pot still in hand “Someone's aiming to get themselves uninvited…” she warned him with an arched eyebrow before returning to pouring her coffee. Throwing spoonful after spoonful of sugar in her drink, she carried on talking, “I was on a stake out most of the night until I caught this woman violating her prenuptial agreement by violating her aged husband’s teenaged son. I'd love to see what Thanksgiving in their house is going to be like this year,” she shook her head before heading to the couch. “Help yourself,” she waved in the general direction of the coffee.
“I hate to tell you but it doesn't actually work like that” he informed her with a smirk at her threat of uninvitation. “She sounds like a charmer” he said wryly before shaking his head and instead following her to the living room, “You've quite put me off with that cup of sugar flavoured coffee” and of course while he could consume food and drink should he wish it did nothing for him.
“Shame, I'll have to bring in bunches of garlic and put them over the entries instead,” Irisa replied as she sat, curling her feet underneath her. “Yeah, well I need it,” she shrugged, savouring the smell of her beverage. “What can I do you for? Someone you need following but can't be bothered?”
“Pfft, next you’ll be thinking I’m going to start sparkling in the light” he teased her a little. He sat in a chair opposite her, “Actually this is a social call. Thought I’d just drop in and see how you are. Make sure you have everything you need” he said casually.
“Oh, you mean I don’t have that to look forward to, you looking like a diamond encrusted tool? Colour me disappointed,” Irisa gave him a lazy smile before taking a sip of her drink. “I’m good I guess,” she shrugged. “Busy, really busy, might need to think about bringing in a second soon,” she told him. In truth she was enjoying living alone to some degree, but she missed the almost constant companionship of Myrcella. Given that Irisa didn’t have many friends in the first place, she was in truth feeling a little bit lonely, so someone to work with her might help.
Alucard smirked enjoying her smart ass responses, she had fire and he always appreciated that. “Well that sounds good. You certainly have settled into things well, thinking of becoming a boss is a big step” though his tone implied she could do it. He had no worries there. “How was movie night with Myrcella?” he asked her, he knew living alone had been the thing Irisa was most nervous about.
Irisa stopped drinking her coffee, her mind having stopped at Alucard’s first suggestion. “A boss? I...I hadn’t thought about it like that…” she thought quietly. Suddenly the idea was quite so appealing to her. Could she be a boss to a person?
When Irisa spoke Alucard realised she hadn’t heard his question, oh dear. “You’ll be fine” he assured her, “You aren’t shy at telling me what to do after all” he smiled at her, “And if you need any help or reassurance you know Integra and I are always here for you”
“Yeah but you’re…you and Integra’s a great role model in that regard,” Irisa replied automatically, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “But normal people? Can I be a normal person’s boss? I mean, as normal as people get around here,” she remarked.
Alucard chuckled at that, “Surely a normal person would be easier?” he queried, “True he or she will not be in the same calibre as Integra or myself but I am sure you can handle a little normal just as well as you handle a couple of stubborn vampires”
“Yeah but…normal...” Irisa grimaced and took a slurp of her coffee. “I suppose they might be easier to train,” she considered, gazing into the middle distance as she thought about it. “They'd have to be smart though. And not talk too much,” she said.
“Maybe you should consider a dog instead” Alucard said wryly with a slight smirk, “They might fit your requirements more”
“Hmm…” Irisa with a far away look in her eyes before she turned back to look at him. “Hey! Aren’t you a dog? Y’know...of a sort,” she shrugged.
“I am a hellhound, it is completely different” Alucard informed her with a raised eyebrow, “I am not a pet”
“Are you sure? Because I’m pretty sure that you love getting petted by Integra,” Irisa teased with a naughty smile.
“You are a cheeky young woman. I need to have words with Integra, she is clearly a bad influence on you” Alucard informed her a slight smirk on his face.
“No, she’s a brilliant teacher,” Irisa corrected with a big grin, feeling much more awake than when he’d arrived.
