“You’re coming along well Fray” Will told Clary with a grin as they both collapsed at the side of the institute training room. He picked up his water bottle and took a swig from it, they’d had a good few hours of training and sparring and were both now thoroughly worn out. It was good though, training with Clary was different to training with Jem or Tessa. He and Jem knew almost every move the other would make while he had to go easier on Tessa. But with Clary it felt more balanced, even if she was still learning. Jace and Izzy were obviously teaching her well too, though not as good as his lessons in his opinion.
Relishing the cool wall of the institute against her back, Clary smiled over at Will as she caught her breath. Her water bottle was wet with condensation when she reached for it, having retrieved it from the fridge just before they sat down. “Thanks, you're not too bad yourself old man,” she looked over at him and winked before taking a long drag from her water. They were similar ages, but the she liked to teased him about the time period he was from.
“Such insolence of youth. There was none of that in my day you know” which was a blatant lie and they both knew it. It may be the Victorian era in Will’s dreams but he was certainly not a perfect Victorian gentleman. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
“Yeah, because I’m sure you were the picture of gentlemanly decorum,” Clary laughed at his faux outrage. “How are things anyway? Have you had any more Dreams?”
“Of course, how dare you imply anything else” Will replied with a sniff before grinning, “In general things are going well. And no, since I died I’ve had no more dreams. That would be something wouldn’t it, can you imagine? Ghost Will” he chuckled.
“Saints preserve us! Ghost Will come back to haunt us?” Clary chuckled, leaning her head back against the Institute. “Although given all we have to deal with in our Dreams...and here for that matter, it wouldn’t surprise me if you did,” she pointed out before taking another swig of her drink.
“Well if it happens you’ll be the first to know” Will promised her with a smirk, it would be fun to cause havoc as a ghost. “How about yours? Anything fun lately?” he asked her curiously.
Grinning, Clary shook her head as she imagined Will running around the place haunting people and pulling pranks. Well, floating, she imagined. “Mine are...fine, I guess? Angels, demons, a psychotic brother? The usual really,” she told him with a small, sad smile. “Well replace psychotic brother with clockwork people and a total nutter and our dreams are fairly similar. Good old life as a shadowhunter. Doesn’t change much over the years” Will told her, “You okay though? Not playing on your mind too much here is it?” Will was lucky, he was able to separate his dreams and reality easily but he knew others struggled to do the same.
“Yeah, but you’d think they’d learn from the ones who have gone before right? It doesn’t work being a weirdo with issues,” Clary joked and laughed before settling down again. “Yeah, I think so. Although my art game has been a little off if I’m honest. My head is just kinda filled with angels and demons so that’s all I’m drawing at the moment. I just can’t imagine it being the sort of art that people around here would buy, y’know? They see that sort of thing enough as it is,” she sighed.
“From what I’ve seen there will always be people who look at the past and think they can do better, sadly it’s usually the crazies” Will sighed. “Angels and demons are very in right now Clary, you should send your portfolio outside of the OC, try New York and London. I bet they’d be very interested”
“Yeah, it's like the weirdest game of poker ever, like, I see your crazy and raise you some megalomania,” Clary laughed. “I guess I could, no harm in trying is there. And people out there haven't seen the stuff we have here so...it could be an open market I suppose,” she considered.
“Exactly. Always be willing to put yourself out there Fray, and of course if you want to guarantee a sale just send them one of the pictures you’ve done of me. They’ll be tearing down your door” he winked.
Clary rolled her eyes and chuckled as she started to get back up. “Of course they Will, of course they will. Now come on old man, you want a round two? Or do I have to wait for you to put a stamina rune on?” she looked over her shoulder at him by way of a challenge.
“Oh, you’re going to be regretting that my dear” Will said as he bounced to his feet, “Think fast Fray” he said as he swatted the back of her legs before speeding past her.
