“It just means you have a huge heart, Diana
Who: Kitty and Diana of Themyscira
What: Beach Date. There are kittens, its adorable
When: Late July
Where: The Beach
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Status: Complete Part 1
Kitty had been jumping back and forth in moods since her fight with Esmeralda. Usually when she talked to Diana, she felt, better. Or when she went on her increasingly common nightly patrols. Those usually made her feel better too. But she didn’t know how to fix things with her friend.
She was a little tired from the night before, and a little sore, but she wasn’t about to miss a day with Diana if she could help it. She knew Diana enjoyed seeing new things within the county, and today she’d suggested going to the ocean. They could walk the boardwalk, go to the beach.
Kitty didn’t think she’d survive Diana in a swimsuit.
The beach was definitely something that Diana enjoyed. It reminded her of home, both Crete and Themyscira. As such, she dressed for the part, wearing a bikini, though she wore shorts to cover the bottom part for the time being. And the top definitely showed off Diana’s changing physique. Her arms and shoulders had been well-defined before she’d started dreaming, but now that she was training as an Amazon warrior, she was gaining muscle mass and definition. She had abs. Her biceps had gotten larger. Her thighs were also larger and more toned. Basically all the muscles in her body were larger, more toned and defined.
She’d put her hair in a French braid to keep it at bay, though she also inadvertently made it the same styled braid she wore in her dreams when she’d grown up. All in all, she was more than excited to spend time with Kitty, sunglasses on and smile almost as bright as the sun as she spotted her friend and headed over to her.
“Hello Kitty, I hope that you are well today?”
While Kitty had a dancer's frame, she had developed some muscles, but nothing like the power Diana possessed. Even before Diana's dreams, she'd had a little more toning than Kitty had. But she'd thought she'd looked pretty good in the mirror that morning, in a midrift bearing tank top over a bikini top, and shorts similar to Diana's.
She hadn't been prepared for the sight approaching her. Kitty's jaw literally dropped, her eyes darting up Diana's legs, to her abs and finally to the way her breasts filled out the bikini top. Kitty felt both inadequate and blessed and her gaze probably lingered way too long.
"I'm gay-- I'm good, thanks." Her eyes snapped up to Diana's smile and she melted. If she’d had any illusion of hiding her crush on Diana from Diana, it was probably shattered.
Diana was rather used to being stared at. In fact, Kitty probably wasn’t the only person staring at her currently. But Kitty was the only one Diana noticed and cared about staring at her. She couldn’t hold back a light-hearted laugh as she reached out and patted Kitty’s shoulder.
“I’m glad that you are both gay and good,” she said, taking it all in stride. She could tell that Kitty had a crush, or at least liked her in that way. She liked Kitty in that way, but for the present moment, she’d play it to her advantage.
Though her own gaze drifted down to that exposed midriff for some moments before shifting back to Kitty’s face.
Kitty sure couldn't compete with Diana in the chest department, anyway. For some reason that didn't bother her the way it would have when she was younger. Progress! Or maybe just not being in the closet any longer. "Right, I might need to go drown myself now."
She pinched the bridge of her nose. "There's some funnel cake down the way, if you want to try that."
Something to keep her mouth busy before she said anything else embarrassing or made a comment about how badly she wanted to lick Diana.
“Or perhaps you just need freezing cold water dumped over your head?” Diana suggested in a teasing manner. Sometimes it was too easy to tease Kitty.
“Funnel cake? I am open to trying it.” She’d never had it before, but she was not one to back down from a challenge.
Sounding strained, Kitty replied, “That’s what the ocean is for.”
Unsure of what to do with her hands or if this counted as a date date, Kitty started to lead Diana down the boardwalk. They got looks, mostly directed at Diana, though a fair few her way too. That was a nice boost.
“It’s a pretty American dish. Basically a batter that’s deep fried and covered in a variety of sugary things.” She was sure there was a history for it but she didn’t feel like digging out her phone to look it up.
Diana couldn’t help but to grin at Kitty and decided to stop teasing her there. After all, Diana didn’t want to drive her off, she liked her company.
The looks Diana got as they walked didn’t really register with her. She was tall and well-muscled, and that tended to be enough for people to stare. But she was also attractive. Still, she only noticed Kitty.
“It seems that American food tends to be either fried or deep fried.” Generally speaking, of course. This seemed like yet another food that could clog arteries.
“There’s some things that aren’t! But i’m sure there’s a historical reason for it.” And many popular southern foods were basically cuisine created by slaves. Kitty remembered an episode of Good Eats that talked about it.
Kitty paid for the food, and handed Diana some. It came in an easy to carry and eat from container, so she started walking again. Every time she looked at Diana, her face lit up and her breathing shifted just a little. It was maddening. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this instantly and insanely attracted to a person, just on a physical level alone. And then Diana would smile, or say something, or act like a good person and Kitty’s heart actually ached.
Something mewled off to the right. Someone had a box of kittens.
“There typically is, yes.” Diana was keen on learning, but that lesson wasn’t going to come today. She took the offered funnel cake and tried it. It was doughy and sweet. Sort of like a donut that had been deep fried. “That is actually pretty good!” Diana declared.
And then she heard mewling and she stopped in her tracks. She looked over and saw the box of kittens. “Oh my goodness, look at them!” She then detracted from their initial course and went over to the box of kittens. “Why hello there, little ones,” she cooed at them. She reached out and started giving some scritches behind their ears.
Watching Diana eat anything was an observation in joy. Kitty wished she could remember what it felt like to be that happy and carefree all the time. Maybe she could learn from Diana.
Before Kitty could respond, Diana was distracted by the kittens. She brought a hand to her mouth and bit on the side of her hand to hide the smile that crossed her face. This was cute and a little hot and Kitty felt like she'd just taken an arrow through the chest.
"The white one is trying to steal all the attention," Kitty noted, kneeling next to Diana and resting her hand on her back.
It was probably a miracle that someone could be this carefree and happy in this world as she was in her late twenties, but Diana had managed it. She found joy in everything, or at least tried to focus on the positives in everything.
Diana laughed a bit, reaching out and plucking the white one out. “You like the attention, don’t you?” She asked it. In response, it mewed and batted Diana on the nose with its paw. “You seem to be a fighter as well.”
Yeah, Kitty was getting video of this now. Diana being cute with the kitten was too good to pass up, and it helped hide the fondness in Kitty’s expression. “This is adorable. Careful, he might just adopt you.”
“I think he already has,” she responded with a grin. She couldn’t help the string of baby talk that happened then. He was definitely cute and making his case for a home. Though there was another one that caught her eye. A tortoise shell one was mewing her little lungs out. She seemed to be the odd one out among the kittens.
“Aww, come here,” she said, keeping the white kitten in one hand and scooping the tortoise shell up in her other. “Crying out for some love, are you?” Yeah, a couple kittens would be joining her and Kitty during their day out, it seemed. And Diana would need to stop and buy some cat food, litter boxes and so forth on her way home.
I’m screwed, Kitty thought. Though at least she wasn’t thinking of anything bad now. Kittens and hot women were very good cure-alls. And the kitten crying out for love reminded Kitty of herself.
Okay that was a dark thought, and Kitty said, “I guess I’m not getting you wet today am I?”
Oh god.
Diana looked over at Kitty, a glint in her eyes as she smirked at her. “It’s not out of the realm of possibilities. We are simply going to have a couple guests with us that weren’t planned.” Diana said. Part of her wanted to buy all the kittens, but there were some other people starting to take notice of the kittens. So Diana stood up, tucking both kittens into one hand and cradling them against her chest as she worked out the price with the person who had them. She had her purse slung across her body, fished out the money and paid for the kittens.
“Though I need a shoulder bag or something more substantial to carry them in while we enjoy ourselves here.”
“Wait here.” Kitty touched Diana’s arm, then darted off back the way they’d come. She ran into a shop, and came out a few minutes later with a messenger bag. It had Hello Kitty proudly displayed on it because Kitty had deemed that both cute and appropriate.
“Ta~da~!”
Diana looked at the bag, raising an eyebrow and smiling. “Hello Kitty? Appropriate.” She looked down at the two kittens who seemed rather content with their new owner. “Look, your aunt Kitty bought you a welcome gift.” She said with a grin. She then kissed both kittens on their head before carefully placing both of them in the messenger bag.
“Now that is adorable.”
“They’re settling in.” Kitty helped get the bag over Diana’s shoulders, leaning into her as she did so. “You’re going to end up with eighty cats and dogs. And no room to keep them all!”
She smiled, liking when Kitty leaned into her. Letting the kittens settle once the bag was situated, she had to laugh. “I cannot help it. I am an animal person. Perhaps the fact that your name is Kitty is one of the things that draws me to you.” She said, patting Kitty’s shoulder.
She didn’t know how to feel about that, but Kitty decided to accept it. It made her feel warm and fuzzy inside and she chewed on her lip before she said something stupid.
“It just means you have a huge heart, Diana.” She left the boardwalk, heading towards the beach directly. “Its one of your best features.”
It had been meant as a compliment, though perhaps Diana could have worded it better. Though at least Kitty had accepted it. She followed her to the beach, taking in the sea air. “Thank you. I like sharing my heart with others. People, animals, I love them all.” She was a natural people-person.
“Now this reminds me of home.” She missed her mother’s home on Crete. It was oceanfront property.
“The ocean? I grew up near the Great Lakes, the smell of water was always there. It was different though. Lacked the salt. But still.” She glanced at Diana, wanting to reach up and brush some hair from her face. So she did.
Diana smiled, looking at Kitty as she brushed some hair from her face. “Growing up near large bodies of water is nice. The Great Lakes are called inland seas, and I can see why. The horizon is nearly as endless as looking out to sea.” She glanced out at the ocean.
“My mother’s home is right on the ocean. It is quite a sight to see every morning. I regret I took it for granted sometimes. I miss it, but being on the beach here takes that away. Especially when I am in such good company.” She looked back at Kitty, a hand moving to touch Kitty’s back.
“Know how they say some lakes have monsters in their depths? Lake Superior is the monster. She’s claimed so many ships. The waves that claim them are called the three sisters, rogue waves that form and wash across a ship so quickly that the water never clears the deck. And since the lake is so cold, bodies never rise to the surface. The lake, it is sad, never gives up her dead."
Some even claimed it was the most dangerous body of water in the world. Kitty swallowed, leaning back against Diana’s hand. “But it’s beautiful too. Always moving, even when its still. It has a predator’s grace. Michigan was the one I was closest to, but we took a few trips up north to Superior.”
She looked at Diana. “Probably a little dark, compared to your mom’s home. Was it a sunset shore, or a sunrise one?”
“Perhaps a little dark, yes, but there is a dark side to everything, just as there is a bright side to everything.” Diana well knew the dangers water could hold. How many ships had sunk in the Mediterranean over the millennia that mankind had sailed the seas? How many cities were underwater in watery graves?
“Sunrise. My mother always said the sunrise on Crete was one of the most beautiful things in the world. She was not wrong.” Diana remembered all the times as a child when she’d rise early just to watch the sunrise, and watch the colors of the sky change.
“It must have been beautiful. I feel like sunrises look different in different places. Different atmospherics and water. Should see the sunsets in the desert. When I travelling through Nevada awhile ago, I caught a few. Sky as far as the eye can see and sunset colors to rival a tropical beach.”
Kitty’s hand twitched, she wanted to take Diana’s, but had to stop herself from doing so.
“They were. And I believe there is truth to that. The sunrise here certainly has its own character. I have experienced it a few times.” Diana had gotten up early some days to experience it. Though most of those had also been to talk with her mother before she needed to go to work. “So what do you find beauty in?” It was a purposefully general question.
“Uh.” Kitty lifted her twitchy hand and pushed some curly hair behind her ear. It gave her a moment to think about it. “Sometimes, I can’t find beauty in anything. There’s so much ugliness in the world, so much of history that’s repeating itself. I have to stop, and breathe, and remind myself there are things worth living for and celebrating. My kids. A sunset. Complex computer code or the thrum of a reactor. A pretty girl’s kiss. The way my body feels when I’m dancing or fighting. The rush of blood in my ears when I do something dangerous. The stars at night when there’s no other light. The feeling after you see a good movie. Laughter.”
She’d closed her eyes at some point. “For all that ugliness, there’s beauty, and you have to grasp hold of the beauty and the happiness no matter how small or brief it might be. It’ll slip through your fingers like sand eventually, but for awhile, it’s yours.”
Diana listened intently, tilting her head a bit as she took in the philosophical response from Kitty. “True there is much ugliness in the world, but if we let ourselves be brought down by it, we lose sight of the truly precious things in life. Good company. Kittens in a box. The warmth of the sun on your skin. The sound of waves crashing upon the shore. We cannot let ourselves lose hope that things may be better if we try to make them better.”
She looked at Kitty for some moments, debating her action. “Not to mention all that we truly have is the present moment. If we live in the past or constantly look to the future, we lose what we have right here, right now.” And that’s when she grabbed Kitty’s head, leaned in and kissed her for some moments before breaking it and standing up straight again with a little smirk on her face.
Kitty had been about to give Diana a response to her lovely words when she was pulled into the kiss. She made a sound halfway between surprise and joy, before leaning into the kiss with barely concealed enthusiasm.
Diana’s smirk was maddening, but Kitty’s voice had been stolen and she could only look at her with a goofy smile on her face.
Seeing Kitty’s reaction made her smirk turn into a broader smile. “I hope that qualifies as a pretty girl’s kiss?” She asked. One of the kittens mewed and without looking, Diana slid her hand to the kittens, giving both of them some scritches.
Face red, Kitty swallowed hard and just nodded. Suddenly it was less needing to drown and more needing to cool off. “Wow…”
“I second the wow,” Diana responded with a warm smile. With her free hand, she dared reach out and brushed some curls behind Kitty’s ear.
Hair was a thing, and a quick way to disarm Kitty and turn her into a mess. She managed to keep herself together, by biting her lip. “You’re so amazing, you know that? Beautiful and gentle and considerate and just...you.”
“Thank you,” Diana responded with a warm smile. “I do try to embody the manners my mother tried to teach me growing up. Sometimes it is questionable whether I accomplish that or not.” She chuckled. “But I find it easy to be such around you. I’m not always a people-person, especially when we are from very different cultures, but I feel I can talk to you without you thinking I was strange or hate me because I have an accent or something.”
The accent was beautiful, but Kitty knew better than to call that out or say that out loud. She moved her hand into the bag to pet the kittens, her fingers brushing Diana’s hand as she did so. “I always like to make friends, and welcome people. It’s really kind of… uhm…”
Kitty shrugged, glancing out towards the ocean because that was safer than looking at Diana. “There’s something special about you. Like in your heart.”
She liked the feel of Kitty’s fingers brushing against hers, and she made no move to pull her hand away. “You are in luck because I enjoy meeting new people and being nice to everyone.” Unless someone gave her a reason not to be nice, of course.
“Thank you. I have been told that I am an endless ray of sunshine, I believe is how you would say it in English?”
“That’s exactly how I’d put it.” Kitty finally made her feet move, pulling Diana down to the beach proper. There’d even been umbrellas set up and little lounging chairs. “How about this spot, Sunshine?”
Diana grinned. “This looks like a good spot to me. Though I must ask, are you against the nickname Kitty Kat?” It was only right to ask before using it and risk irking Kitty. After all, some people really didn’t like certain nicknames.
“I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it?” Though Diana could call her almost anything and she’d probably be okay with it. She’d have to hear it.
She took a seat, watching the way Diana moved, and absently touched her lips. It was kind of sinking in that Diana had kissed her, and that Diana was Wonder Woman.
What even was her life?
“That is good to know.” Diana would think of something better to call Kitty. There was undoubtedly a better nickname out there anyway. She took the shoulder bag off and sat down, sitting the bag on the ground beside her chair. Diana then reached into it scoop both kittens out.
“Would you like to hold one of them?” She asked. Diana was trying to come up with names for them, but nothing was sticking quite yet.
“I’d love to!” Kitty plucked the tortoiseshell kitten up and cuddled it to her bikini-clad bosom. “I love cats. Obviously.” She winked at Diana, then nuzzled the top of the kitten’s head.. “I’ve got two at home.”
Diana smiled, watching Kitty cuddle the female kitten. Likewise, she snuggled the white kitten to her own chest, giving him some scritches behind his ears. “I am certainly glad that you like cats! Otherwise it would kind of be a waste of using your name, wouldn’t it?” She chuckled. “What kind of cats do you have?”
“Siamese,” Kitty murmured, looking at Diana out of the corner of her eye. “And a calico. I’ll end up with a third if the kids stay. They have a grey tabby. Not that I mind, he’s a sweetheart.”
She looked at the white kitten, feeling a spur of jealousy. Over a cat. God help her.
“They all sound adorable,” Diana said with a little nod. The white kitten was batting at some strands of hair that had fallen loose from her braid. She laughed a bit at it. “Though do your cats get along with the grey tabby?”
“They did. I think they missed him when the kids went to Chicago with him. I’m sure they won’t have a problem accepting him back.” Gently, Kitty placed the kitten back into the bag, then leaned back on one arm. She should have brought sun lotion.
Diana nodded a bit. She kept hold of the white kitten a little longer before she set him back in the bag. “Have you had pets all your life?” Some people grew up with them, others didn’t have any until they were adults. It was always curious to see. Also, it would just be one more thing she’d know about Kitty.
“Yeah. A couple cats, a dog. A little parakeet when I was younger. I didn’t have any in London and not for a few years when I moved out here.” She grinned at Diana. “I went through a phase when I came out. Got cats, had a pick-up. I mean, the pick-up I got for other reasons but it was kind of funny. Kitty likes girls and she got cats and a pick-up truck, go figure.”
“Hey, if you’re going to come out, might as well make the most of it!” Diana returned the grin. “The parakeet must have been cute. Birds are so beautiful, though some of them can be rather annoying.” Diana had never had a pet bird, but she’d been around birds enough to know that some of them were assholes.
“I certainly did.” Kitty wondered sometimes if she was actually bisexual. She hadn’t dated any guys since coming out. But she still found them hot and would sleep with one. It might just be she felt more romantically inclined towards women these days.
Or the selection of men in the OC wasn’t to her taste.
“Birds scream a lot, but can be sweet hearts.”
“I hope your parakeet was one of the sweethearts.” The screaming would be a lot to deal with, though, depending on the kind of bird it was. “Do you still have the pick-up or have you moved on to something else?”
“Only to me and my mom. He hated my dad for some reason.” Kitty would have thought it would be the other way around. Her mom was the bitch in the family. Which was unkind, but she had a hard time feeling charitable to her mother most days.
“Traded it in for a regular car. Usually just use my motorcycle though.”
“Perhaps the parakeet was just a lady’s man,” Diana suggested with a little waggle of her eyebrows. Which did happen. Some animals preferred one gender over the other. “Ah, well at least you got something out of the deal. Though motorcycles are quite sexy.”
“Then I must have taken after him,” Kitty joked. She nudged her shoulder against Diana’s. “I’m really proud of mine. Its been tweaked and overhauled. Doesn’t make a sound, super strong suspension, ridiculously fast. Maybe i’ll take you for a ride sometime.”
She grinned, then turned to watch some kids splash in the water.
“It seems that you did,” she chuckled. “I would like that.” And she would. Diana had always enjoyed the look of motorcycles. She could certainly enjoy riding one. Especially with an attractive woman at that.
Diana watched the kids splash in the water, then watched some others enjoying the water. “Everyone seems to be enjoying their time at the beach soaking up the sun.”
“It’s a reminder. Of good things.” Kitty hesitated, then took Diana’s hand. “Like a little hope for the future.”
That water was looking better all the time.
Diana was a little surprised when Kitty took her hand, but she just smiled and gave Kitty’s hand a little squeeze. “Summer has a way of bringing that out in people, I think. More sun light and so forth.” There was definitely something to why some people’s mood changed with the seasons. The amount of time the sun was out during the day had an effect on people.
As did good company.
“That’s really sappy.” Kitty laughed. “But I kind of like it.” She reluctantly let go of Diana’s hand, getting to her feet and tugging her top off, then bending over and sliding her shorts down. She kicked them off to the side and stretched.
“At least you kind of like it and do not hate it,” Diana retorted with a laugh. Though as Kitty shed her shirt and shorts, Diana gave her quite the look-over. Kitty was definitely fit and looked really good in her swimsuit. “You look good,” she said, her eyes still taking Kitty in.
Not expecting an open compliment like that, Kitty turned a little red. She laughed nervously. “Uhm… thanks. Not as good looking as you.”
Wonder Woman was looking at her like she was some kind of delicious steak and Kitty didn’t know how to deal with that except to maybe feel like she was through the moon.
“I beg to differ there.” Diana was the type of woman who knew she was attractive, but she preferred to downplay it. She didn’t even wear much make-up. She wore the bare essentials, and sometimes accentuated her eyes more, but otherwise, she kept it light.
“You’re drop-dead gorgeous and unbelievably sexy, you know that?” Kitty glanced at her over her shoulder and gave her a grin. No one had ever really called her either thing. Not in so many words. She got pretty. Cute. Plain old sexy once or twice. But compared to Diana she was below average.
Diana smiled. “You are beautiful, and very sexy.” She could really keep up the compliments all day if needed. And she also liked to make it plain how she felt in this. Kitty wasn’t the only one with a crush, Diana just had a more subtle approach to her emotions. Even in her crush, there was evident respect. Diana refused to objectify Kitty, even if the look she’d given her had been more like Kitty was a delicious steak.
It was enough to make more than Kitty’s face turn red. That Diana took the approach she did wasn’t helping her fight her crush - it made it a lot easier to give into it. There was a power to the way Diana interacted with the world, and it touched something deep inside Kitty. “Do you want to join me in the water? I think we can bribe someone to keep an eye on the kittens.”
Diana had been told before that she had quite a way of interacting with the world. She just really had a joy for life and learning and exploring in any way she could. She smiled at Kitty and nodded. “It would be my pleasure to join you in the water.” Standing up, Diana took off her shorts, leaving her in her bikini proper. Then it was finding someone willing to watch the kittens while they went for a swim.
It was a joy that was contagious and exactly what Kitty needed at this point in her life. She’d lost that joy, that innocence at some point, and she didn’t know if it would ever come back.
She forgot what she was about to say, distracted by Diana’s legs and pelvis. Deciding the best way to not make an idiot of herself was to flag down a young woman. “Would you mind keeping an eye on our kittens while we swim? I’ll give you $50.00.”
That was basically like $100.00 an hour.
Setting her shorts aside, Diana then checked on the little furballs in the bag. Apparently it was naptime as they’d both curled up together. She smiled, then looked up at the woman Kitty had flagged down. “They should not be much trouble,” she assured her. Which was evident by the napping kittens.
Luckily, the kittens won over the young woman, and she agreed. Diana just hoped she’d get the kittens back, but the young woman didn’t seem like she’d run off with them.
Kitty would track her down, but she didn’t think anything would happen either. She grabbed Diana’s hand and pulled her towards the water. There was something freeing about being able to do that with another woman, and if anyone objected they’d get a piece of her mind.
Though with how obviously they could both kick an ass, it wasn’t likely.
Grinning, Diana headed to the water with Kitty. She would also not take kindly to anyone having a problem with her holding hands with a woman. However, her height and the obvious muscles she and Kitty had should keep most naysayers away.
She ran into the water until it came a little above her knees, then she dove under the water, swimming out a bit further.
Kitty followed, darting through the water with ease and popping up behind Diana. She splashed some water at the back of her head, and laughed. The waves were light and she bobbed along with them. “Have you ever gone surfing?”
She yelped a little and laughed when she got splashed. Diana turned around and splashed Kitty back. She grinned, also bobbing along with the light waves. “No, I have only watched other surf. Have you gone surfing before?”
“Two or three times! It’s harder than it looks.” Kitty dove under the water, ‘attacking’ Diana’s legs from below and weaving around her. She popped up in front of her, wrapping her arms around her. She figured Diana could handle that easily enough. “You want to try sometime?”
Diana laughed as Kitty ‘attacked’ her legs. When she wrapped her arms around her, Diana slid her arms around Kitty. “I would not say no,” she responded. “Though you will need to teach me how to properly surf.”
“What was that? Start in a kiddie pool?” Kitty grinned at her, leaning her head in and rubbing their noses together. It was silly and sappy, and she reveled in it. “Something tells me you won’t have much of a problem learning. It’s mostly balance and the feel of the waves.”
She couldn’t help the warm, bright grin that spread across her face at the nose rub. Diana certainly didn’t mind silly and sappy in the least. “We will only learn the answer to that once we do it.”
“Maybe next week.” Kitty didn’t want to leave the kittens for too long, though the feel of Diana’s back muscles under her hands and the way their wet skin rubbed together was making her wish to never leave the water again. She had so many fears about any kind of relationship, and yet she was falling head over heels and she couldn’t stop herself.
“That is fine with me,” Diana replied. It was something new to try, and she was more than eager to try anything. Especially if it was trying something with someone she liked. Only time would tell how this would play out, but Diana was both optimistic and open. She could take things at a slower pace if Kitty wanted. She could equally go faster as well. Sometimes Diana got caught up in the emotions of the moment.
Kitty didn’t tend to go slow. She often thought she did, and had tried once or twice only for it to blow up on her face (she supposed her thing with Rikku might have been doomed from the start, though). But maybe going fast ruined things for her too. Maybe she was destined to ruin every relationship she tried, even the ones that were entirely one sided. It was harder than it looked to close oneself off from other people, and from the moment she’d laid eyes on Diana it had been like someone had stuck a doorstop in her heart, preventing her from completely closing it off.
That was a stupid analogy so Kitty leaned in and kissed Diana.
Diana had had a few past relationships, but none of them had ended in fire, really. Some might wonder why anyone would want to break up with Diana, but she was really focused and engrossed by her job at times. A couple of her exes had not taken kindly to that and things had unraveled. But she was always open and willing to try a relationship with someone if there was mutual interest there.
She kissed Kitty back, keeping ahold of her.
“I think I’m drowning,” Kitty murmured, her lips moving against Diana’s. And she didn’t think she wanted to be saved.
“Then I should save your life, shouldn’t I?” She murmured back against Kitty’s lips. She then kissed her again, a little deeper than before. Kitty’s lips were quite soft, and she like the feel of them against her own.
Oh. Oh she was in trouble. Kitty felt like swooning, opening her mouth a little in response to Diana's kissing. There was something secure about Diana's arms and the contrasting hard and soft of her body.
Kitty made a sound that was kind of a mewl and kind of a moan.
She felt Kitty’s mouth open slightly, and Diana decided to test the waters, so to speak. Parting her own lips, the tip of her tongue ever so lightly traced against Kitty’s lips. She kept hold of her, attempting to remember that they were treading water.
It was probably a good thing they were in water, and in public, or Kitty might have embarrassed herself more than she already was. Diana’s tongue was enticing and Kitty went for the bait.
As Kitty went for the bait, Diana flicked her tongue against Kitty’s. This time, she groaned a little at the feel of it. It was probably a good thing that they were in the water currently.
This was different than with Aria, or some other lovers. Kitty felt warm, but it wasn’t an all consuming fire that she’d burn through in an evening (though Diana could easily stoke that fire in her). It was slower, needier in a way, and Kitty rolled her hips slowly against Diana’s before she broke the kiss. She’d just heard Wonder Woman groan and she could die happy now. “I might need some more CPR later.”
The roll of Kitty’s hips against hers made a pit form in her stomach. A shudder ran through Diana. When the kiss broke, she licked her lips, still able to feel Kitty’s against her own. “As I do not wish you to succumb to a lack of air, I will gladly perform more CPR on you later.” She responded smoothly.
Kitty’s eyes locked onto Diana’s lips, and she couldn’t help it; she kissed her again, letting it linger before finally pulling away. She giggled, disentangling herself from Diana and swam off towards the shore. If she didn’t get away now, she was going to make the wrong kind of move.
She shook herself off and walked out of the water, turning to look at Diana.
Diana returned the kiss, chuckling as Kitty swam off towards the shore. She waited a few moments before she swam after Kitty. Though considering her height and the shape she was in, she probably looked like a goddess emerging from the water. She walked towards Kitty with a smile on her face. “That was certainly a refreshing swim,” she said as she lightly brushed by Kitty before heading to reclaim her kittens.
“Like Aphrodite from the sea,” Kitty murmured, probably just loud enough Diana to hear. And she didn’t mind if Diana did hear. Diana was a goddess, and Kitty had thought so even before everything had clicked together. And it was a lot better than the more lewd thought that went through her mind at the sight of water on muscles.
She laughed, almost too loudly, then followed Diana to where the woman was waiting with their kittens. She gave Kitty a look like ‘I’m so jealous of you right now’ after collecting her cash and a few last scritches of the kittens.
“We got them thataway, there were a few left,” Kitty suggested, grinning.
“Somehow I don’t think Aphrodite would welcome competition,” Diana commented after hearing Kitty’s murmur. Diana grinned at the girl, nodding at Kitty’s statement. “They are all very adorable.” Really, it had been difficult to not buy the entire box of them.
“Xena’s Aphrodite would appreciate the comparison,” Kitty quipped. She looked at Diana like she was the sun, meaning it was impossible to look directly at her. She was that gorgeous.
“You two are adorable,” the woman said. And kind of hot, but she didn’t say that outloud. She gave the kittens one more pet, before quickly rushing off to get one of her own.
“Kittens are a powerful motivator,” Kitty laughed, face suddenly red again.
Diana looked at Kitty and smiled. “That is good to know.” She did not know if the Aphrodite of her dreams would have appreciated it, though she was unable to ask her considering Ares had allegedly killed all the gods. “Thank you,” she said to the woman with a warm smile.
Turning back to Kitty, she had to smile warmly, and perhaps a little deviously as she situated the shoulder bag with the kittens across her shoulders. “So says the one named Kitty,” she teased as she stepped a bit closer, reaching out with both hands to tuck hair behind Kitty’s ears and then stroke her hands down her hair a bit.
Kitty felt her knees go a little weak, and she had no coherent response handy, so she just accepted her defeat with all the grace and dignity she could muster with Diana doing that to her hair. She felt like she’d just been seduced in a romantic way, and whispered. “We should… get the kittens home.”
“First pet store, then we can get them home,” she responded, letting her fingers linger over Kitty’s hair for some moments before she pulled them back. Best to let Kitty recover herself a bit before attempting to move. Though Diana wondered if it was possible that she’d have to pick Kitty up off of the sand first.
Kitty could literally kiss this woman for hours and then let her bench press her. Probably deadlift too. She nodded. “I figure we can let the sun, uh, dry us off as we walk. I’m sure the kittens won’t mind snuggling into our shorts.”
She had ulterior motives, of course, even as her brain kept playing really sappy love songs thanks to the hair thing.
“I do not think they shall mind,” she responded. Diana slid a hand into the shoulder bag and gave the kittens some scritches. “Are you ready to go?” Other than the kittens, Diana only had her shorts that needed reclaiming.
“Yeah,” Kitty said, knowing full well it meant she’d have to part ways with Diana, unless she got invited along. Which she wouldn’t object to. Somehow, the thought of going home to the house she shared with Rogue was kind of depressing.
Diana had no intention of parting ways with Kitty yet. She liked the company, and she liked being around Kitty even more. She started heading back the way they’d come. “Would you like to come with, help pick out some things for the little ones? Perhaps even come to my home, if you have nothing else planned?” She didn’t want to assume that Kitty was free. Kitty had a life and friends and family here. Diana was the one who needed more of a social life.
“I have some ideas for the kittens,” Kitty agreed, letting that answer buffer the time between Diana’s question and the response she’d nearly immediately given. She didn’t want to look desperate after all.
“I don’t have plans. The kids are at friends until tomorrow.”
“I welcome the ideas.” Diana smiled. While she wasn’t a stranger to having animals around, kittens were something new to her. Her smile grew brighter at Kitty’s response. “Would you like to come over? You can help me set up whatever we get for the kittens, and I could treat you to some authentic Greek for dinner?” Yes, she purposefully worded it that way, mostly to see how Kitty reacted.
“Lets see, play with kittens and then…” Her eyes went a little wide and if she’d been drinking something it would have been a legitimate spit-take. Face red, she sputtered out something like ‘I did want to sample authentic Greek’ but she wasn’t really thinking about gyros or anything like that at precisely that second.
To her credit, Diana didn’t burst into laughter at seeing how red Kitty turned. However, her eyes twinkled and she did grin brightly. “Then Greek is definitely on the menu.” She reached out, patting Kitty on the back.
There was the eternal question of ‘am i getting laid’ but Kitty wasn’t going to assume anything except Diana making her a little speechless.
She tossed her shirt and shorts, and Diana’s shorts, into the bag, watching as the kittens scrambled to get out from underneath them. Which was adorable.
Diana certainly wasn’t against things going in the direction of sex. But before she could entertain those sorts of thoughts, she needed to ensure she had the essentials, and then some, for her new furballs. Which she cooed at as they scrambled to get out from under the clothes Kitty added to the bag.
“Now isn’t that cute?” She laughed a bit as the kittens mewed.
First rule of being a good date, never assume anything, but be happy if something happened. Kitty's heart couldn't handle Diana cooing at the kittens. Kitty was pretty sure she might not survive to December at the rate Diana was making her chest clench.
"I think you're nearly as cute as they are right now."
Never assume anything was a good rule in general. Diana would see how things went and that would be that. She was content enough just to have Kitty’s company a while longer. And at least Diana’s mother hadn’t decided to visit, otherwise things could get...awkward.
“Only nearly as cute?” Diana teased with a grin.
“I’m afraid the kittens are stiff competition.” Kitty threaded her arm around Diana’s waist. It was kind of bold, but after being kissed like she had in the water, Kitty wanted the physical contact. She craved that mineral.
“I can hardly try to argue with that, they are rather adorable.” Diana nodded, slipping her arm around Kitty’s shoulders. She liked the physical contact as well. “Where is a pet store around here?” She figured Kitty would know that without having to google it or something.
“We’ll need to put on the shorts to go there,” Kitty pointed out. “But we’ll be dry by then if we walk. If you don’t mind. It’s only a couple of blocks.” She was going to enjoy the walk, and leaned her head onto Diana’s shoulder.
“I don’t mind walking at all. I tend to prefer it, though perhaps that was because I grew up in a somewhat smaller city on an island. Everything was close.” At least as far as her home city was concerned, of course. If she’d wanted to go to other cities, then driving was the better option. She lightly squeezed Kitty’s shoulders as they walked.
“Hard to walk everywhere in Chicago,” Kitty said. “Or London. New York it was pretty much required when you were in the city.” Driving in New York was terrible.
She turned her head slightly, kissing Diana’s shoulders. She needed to know what they were, though at this point she already knew that Aria was going to need to find another woman. She didn’t think she’d mind or have much trouble with it, either. But being cooked for was pretty obviously a date, right?
“Anyone who wants to drive in New York is crazy, if you ask me.” Diana chimed. She’d gotten around just fine in New York by walking or taking the subway. Occasionally she’d taken a taxi, but she preferred to walk.
At the kiss to her shoulder, she had to smile, then looked down at Kitty. “Have you had baklava before?” Also another question came to her mind. “Also I should ask, are there any meats that you cannot eat?”
“Heard of it, never had it,” Kitty said. She shook her head. “I’m not strictly orthodox. I avoid most pork, except like, bacon.” It was impossible to avoid bacon and she didn’t want to try. “I don’t follow the whole no cheese on meat thing, but shrimp is something I avoid too.”
It was really nice of Diana to ask and she was grateful for it.
“Lucky for you, I made some baklava this morning, so you may try it.” Diana had a soft spot for baklava. Noting the pork and shrimp preferences, she nodded. “That is good to know. Now, have you had gyros before?” Because if not, Diana knew what she’d make for dinner.
“Once, but this was a long time ago,” Kitty replied. She added dramatically, “In another life.”
One of the kittens mewled, and she put a hand in the bag so they knew they weren’t alone or abandoned. One licked her finger and she giggled.
“Well then, I know what we will have for dinner. Typically pork is used for the meat in Greece, but I prefer lamb. Do you like lamb?” She asked, wanting to ensure that lamb was acceptable. She had other meat she could use for them. Hearing both the mewl and giggle, she smiled, glancing down at the kittens in the bag.
“Do not worry little ones, you are not forgotten. Soon you shall be very spoiled!” She announced with a grin, sticking her own hand into the bag to give the kittens some pets. And her fingers inevitably brushed against Kitty’s.
“Lamb is kosher.” Kitty grinned so wide it kind of hurt. She was never going to get over Diana’s reaction to small animals. Just wait until babies.
She caught one of Diana’s fingers with one her hers, stroking it lightly, almost erotically. “Ideas on names yet?”
“Lamb gyros it shall be.” Diana smiled. Hopefully Kitty brought her appetite. Maybe even in more than one way.
She shivered a little as Kitty stroked her finger. “Running the risk of being too Greek and too much of an Amazon, I’m thinking Apollo and Artemis. Unless something else hits me, but right now those are the names coming to me.”
“Those names are perfect.” Kitty could think of another, but there was no way to suggest Diana’s aunt’s name without sounding really weird and inappropriate.
“Okay, I think it’s shorts time, they’ll probably not let us in like this.” She wanted to get the shopping done with so she could see Diana’s place.
“I think they suit them.” She smiled. It would probably be even more suited if Artemis was a black cat, but tortoiseshell worked. At Kitty’s statement, Diana nodded, scooping both kittens up in one hand, she grabbed Kitty’s shorts with her other hand and handed them over to her. “Best to be properly dressed, after all.” She chuckled, then pulled her own shorts out of the bag and returned the kittens to the bag.
