The past few weeks had been busy ones for Felix, what with planning Fourth of July parties and summer weddings and even a few late graduation parties: not to mention, squeezing in time to see Eliot when the other party planner also had some free time. With all of that, Felix hadn’t really spent any quality time with his sister, because fifteen minutes in the mornings before running out the door was not quality time.
So he had suggested they set aside a night when Kira would be at a sleepover to hang out and catch up a little on what was going on with each other.
It was crazy how you could live with someone and only see them for a few minutes at a time, Sarah had always rolled her eyes before when people said they were too busy for anything but recently both she and Felix had been in that position.
A sibling night was exactly what they needed, so Sarah had ordered a pizza for them and gotten in a selection of drinks. “So,” she said as they lounged on the sofa, “Important things first, how are you and Eliot doing?” she grinned, sipping her beer.
Knowing what he liked when it came to food and drinks, Felix had left the food up to Sarah that night since he’d had a semi late meeting with a client before coming home. It was times like these when Felix was reminded of the times they would spend together back home before Sarah had disappeared with Kira’s father. They had been so much more innocent back then; how times had changed.
“Eliot is doing fine,” Felix couldn’t help but smirk as he said the other man’s name and leaned over to pick up his drink, “Just moved into a bigger apartment with Margo.” Felix had been to the new apartment, having spent a night there very recently and knew Eliot was much happier having his bed back now that he and Margo had their own bedrooms and he wasn’t sleeping on the couch anymore. “How’s Johnny Boy?”
Thankfully they knew each other pretty well and ordering takeaway and picking up drinks was something both of them could do for each other in their sleep. And it was nice to do it every now and then, Sarah had always appreciated the close bond they had and would have been lost without it.
“That must be nice. If she’s like me I felt so bad when I landed on your doorstep and realised there wasn’t really enough space for us all” Sarah really hadn’t thought about that part when she’d rocked up. “He’s good. Great actually. Did I tell you Kira let her school friends think he was her dad?” she asked, talk about awkward.
“I don’t think she feels bad exactly. Then again, she took the lead in finding them a bigger flat,” Felix liked Margo. She was exactly the sort of person he would hang out with; then again, Felix hung out it almost anyone. However, it was how blunt and unapologetic Margo was that he liked about her. And also the fact that she teased Eliot quite often when Felix was around.
Felix’s brows rose at that, “Did she really? Did you ask her why she did it?” If Felix had to guess, it was because she wanted what most other kids had that she didn’t.
“So there’s something there” Sarah said, it sounded like there was some guilt but she was glad they had a bigger place now. She knew she’d been glad when they’d moved into this place and they each had a room.
Sarah nodded, “She said she likes the idea of John being her dad. He’s smart and likes looking at the stars with her” she sighed, “I didn’t think I realised how much she missed having a dad” She’d always seemed so well adjusted that Sarah hadn’t thought she was missing anything.
“And how do you feel about this?” Felix didn’t really know just how serious Sarah and John were, but he didn’t think they were at the possible marriage stage or else he was sure she would have said something to him.
Shrugging Sarah replied, “Well I’m not gonna rush out and make it all official, if that’s what you mean. But John doesn’t seem to mind so I figure we’ll just leave it for now” It might not be the best approach but it was the easier one for now.
Felix nodded and took a sip of his drink, “Just as long as I get to be your Best Man when you do get married,” He smirked as he teased her. It was common knowledge that if either of them ever did tie the knot, the other would have the top title in the wedding party.
“You know that’s a given, if it ever happens” Sarah said, “After all who else could even come close to organising the most amazing hen party ever?” she grinned.
Grinning, Felix did a faux hair toss, “No one, that’s who.” While a wedding was probably very far off, Felix would be lying if he said that he’d never thought about possible ideas for both Sarah’s wedding and hen party, “For an event that special, I might have to recruit other party planners.” Of course he had one certain one in mind. It really was quite the coincidence that he was seeing someone who was also an event planner.
“When the time comes I'll leave myself in your extremely capable hands” Sarah promised, “But that won't be for a while yet. Now enough serious talk let's watch something fun and cheesy while getting drunk”
