With Emily and Spencer so far behind in the dreams, Hanna often found herself biting back comments because she was trying to just wait for specific questions as it was up to them if they wanted to know things or not. However, it was also really hard because there were some things that were so major that she felt they needed to be said. Who A was? That was a bit more complicated because it would be so frustrating to know who it was but watch yourself be blind to it. But other things? It was maddening. But for now, it was just trying to bite her tongue and be there for the two as they made their way through the swamp that was Rosewood dreams.

Given Spencer’s latest dream, it was no shock that they would be meeting up. There was a lot that was going on and it was hard to work through. While Hanna knew in theory what had happened, it was sometimes still a blur because of all the manipulations Mona put them through. And then Emily was a bit behind Spencer and honestly? Hanna probably should have put together notes when she was going through the dreams just to try and keep everything straight.

No matter. For now, she was waiting at the agreed coffee shop at a table that would work for the three, going over notes from class to pass the time.

Spencer had been staying outside of Orange County, trying to keep the Dreams at bay. She’d slept over at Joe’s place, and found a motel. She was debating finding a more permanent residence outside county lines… but the commute was killer. She found herself running late all the time now! Embarrassingly. And a part of her wanted to face these Dreams head on. With Hanna and Emily’s help, she really could. Couldn’t she? Then there was the confusing stuff with Toby. That was something she’d have to face… wasn’t it?

She arrived a few minutes late to the cafe and spotted Hanna right away. “Hey,” she sounded a little exasperated as she headed to the table.

Like Hanna and Spencer, Emily was also having a difficult time dealing with the dreams, but was glad that she had her friends, Toby and Caleb included, to help her through them. She didn’t know what happened after the police came and they found out the evidence they’d thought they’d found wasn’t actually real. All she knew was that at some point after that Ian tried to kill Spencer and while she didn’t necessarily want to have more dreams, she needed to make sure Spencer was okay as well as continue to work things out with Toby. She could do without whatever was going on with Paige, but the rest, she did want to see through.

Emily arrived just as Spencer walked through the door ahead of her and moved to try and catch the door as it closed. Entering the shop, she spotted Spencer as she took a seat at a table with Hanna and went to join them, “Hey, hope you haven’t been waiting long.” She said to Hanna, giving her and Spencer a welcoming smile.

Hearing Spencer, Hanna looked up and smiled, “Hey,” and then there was Emily, “Nope, you’re good.” Given she was just doing review of notes it wasn’t like she had to really mark anything. It had just been a way to pass the time. So now that the two were here? Notes were packed up and put into her bag.

She could understand wanting to run away from the dreams, but Hanna had a feeling that in the long run that wouldn’t help if only because she was pretty sure some people even had dreams outside of Orange County. Let alone the commute. But that was neither here nor there. For now it was Rosewood Liar Support Group time.

“If you want to get your drinks I can wait.” It wasn’t like she had much else planned for the day.

“Oh, I just got here, too,” Spencer said, giving Emily a smile. “Yeah, I’d kill for a cappuccino.” She turned toward the register, glancing up at the sizes and prices. “Hey, Em, I’ll get yours. What do you want?” She asked, then waited for a reply before heading to the register to order some drinks and snacks for them.

“Thanks, Spence.” She told her friend what she wanted then sat back in her seat to wait, “So how’re things going with Caleb? I haven’t talked to him in awhile.” Since Emily had dreamt about meeting him, she felt a little closer to Caleb, which was strange since she still barely knew him in the dreams. It was a strange feeling that she couldn’t really explain. It was the same with Toby despite having known Toby for quite some time in the waking world, it now she felt closer to him than she had before.

Given the way the conversation undoubtedly was going to go, Hanna figured the two getting drinks first was the best way to go about it. So while Spencer went to get the drinks, Hanna turned her attention to Emily and smiled, “They’re going well.” Nothing really pressing had come up, they were progressing normally, no hiccups or anything of that nature. “I’ve mostly been busy with school and my internship and all of that.” Which was better than dealing with new dreams even as Hanna was worried about the latest things that had happened. She was so over all of it. But she wanted to know how they ended. “How about you? Anything exciting going on?”

Spencer ordered the drinks, paid, then waited by the counter to pick them up. It didn’t take long. She knew the baristas here, they were all good. Soon she was loaded up with a skinny latte for Emily, and a wet cappuccino for herself. And she came back over to the table with them. “This is one of those places that makes a really, really good cup of coffee. The crema on their shots is to die for.” She set Emily’s drink in front of her friend, then slipped into the booth.

Emily shook her head in response to Hanna’s question, “Nothing too exciting. Just school and practice. And trying not to dwell on the dreams too much.” Speaking of the dreams, when Emily had gotten ready that afternoon to meet up with Hanna and Spencer, she’d grabbed a scarf from the holder on the back of her bedroom door, not realizing that it was the one she’d gotten from Maya, in the dreams.

“Thanks, Spence.” Emily smiled at Spencer as the drink was set down in front of her. Picking it up, she held it in her hands for a moment before taking a sip. “Sometimes I think that you should write a book on coffee or something. A guide to all the best coffee shops in the OC maybe.”

“Good plan.” Because really. Hanna knew all too well what it was like to try and keep from dwelling on the dreams too much. They were a headache and a half, never any answers or more questions when answers were given. Hopefully Emily would be able to manage it.

“It would be a best seller. I mean, it’s not like Spencer needs an excuse to go to different coffee shops, but if you have one might as well use it.”

Shrugging, Hanna took a sip of her coffee.

Spencer chuckled softly. She could do it, she knew. Spencer was pretty well acquainted with all the coffee shops in Orange county, and she was a fairly talented writer. (When she wasn’t stealing her sister’s essays, anyway.) She nodded, then sipped from her cup, quickly. “I’ll consider it. Outside of school and terrible Dreams, if I’ve got time, that’s what I’ll do.” She gave her friends a sad smile.

“Well the summer is coming up. You could always start writing it then,” Emily had no doubt that if anyone could write a book, among the three of them, it was Spencer. Now that they had their coffees, Emily turned her attention back to Hanna, “So, what’s going on? I get the feeling you didn’t want to meet up just to have coffee.” She wondered if it had something to do with the dreams.

“Exactly.” Summer was a good time to do things like write coffee shop books instead of drown in schoolwork on top of the dreams. Not like those stopped just because it was summer. Hanna still didn’t know why her dreams would stop and start the way they did. Just that she was annoyed and wanted to know how it all played out because she was so over it all. “Well, Spencer wanted to hang out given her latest dream and mentioned having questions.”

It was fine with Hanna. She liked meeting up, and they had all agreed that a support group of sorts was god. Sometimes it was just hanging out but Spencer had mentioned in the post on the network about having dream related questions, so Hanna was prepared for that.

Spencer sat up a little straighter at the mention of the Dreams. She’d been thinking about the book, wondering if maybe it was something she could work on over the summer like her friends suggested. But the mention of the Dreams stole all those thoughts from her head.

She sighed, setting her cup back down again. “I found out who killed Ali. At least, we were convinced. Because he tried to kill me, too.”

Emily turned her attention to Spencer, brows furrowing, “Wait, someone else tried to kill you besides Ian?” Emily’s last dream had been when Ian had died and A had apparently saved Spencer, to everyone’s surprise. “When? What happened?” She had only just gotten over the fear she’d felt at listening to Spencer getting attacked by Ian and the last thing she wanted was to hear about her being attacked again, but she couldn’t not know what had happened now.

Honestly, Hanna needed a freaking map or something to keep tabs of the dreams and everything they ever thought and why they were wrong. Not like it would do any good, there would still be no answers. Then again, she had a hard enough time keeping tabs of what happened when in her dreams to really be able to keep up with where Spencer and Emily were in theirs and given it had only been a day?

But there was one thing that she really struggled with and in typical Hanna fashion ended up blurting out the comment.

“He didn’t kill her. Ali’s not dead. She’s faking it.” Because honestly it was so…. Ugh. She understood, or she mostly understood it. No, it was just a mess. And while she’d been doing her best not to just blurt things out like how Mona was currently A and then it would be CeCe and now whoever was AD since it would just be frustrating to know and ignore the clues. But Ali being dead? She couldn’t take it anymore with being quiet about that.

“No, it was Ian.” Spencer said, then turned to Hanna. Because that was news to her. Her heart sort of skipped a beat in her chest. “Wait, Ali’s not dead?” This was all so confusing. Maybe they should write up a timeline together. That might help them to realize where they were, and what was going on in their Dreams.

Emily’s brows rose in surprise at Hanna’s words and she stared at her friend, “What? Ali is alive? But how?” Emily hadn’t been dreaming for that long, but hearing that Alison wasn’t really dead was quite the relief, but at the same time, it cause her to wonder how it was even possible since they had found her body.

Not her body, but a body in a specific yellow shirt. If Hanna were being honest with herself, she was still confused by the Bethany Young thing. But whatever. She’d answer as best she could.

“Yeah. Apparently she was getting messages from A as well. Then someone hit her from behind and her mom thought she was dead so buried her but she wasn’t so she got out and was convinced to go into hiding because it wasn’t safe for her or something.” Sighing, Hanna sipped her coffee. “She said that she found it easy to stay away but after I was hit by the car she came back. I thought I had hallucinated her because of the pain meds, but it was her. So there have been times where we’ve thought we’ve seen her but had a reason it couldn’t be her, only for it to have been her.”

Hanna had always believed that Alison was alive even when no one else had, but it had always been something she’d held onto only for her to be right.

Emily couldn't believe what she was hearing. It all sounded so crazy, but then again, when did anything from their dreams not sound crazy? “But….but they found her body. How could she be alive?” It just didn’t make any sense.

Spencer couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She frowned, folded her arms across her chest, and put her amazing brain to work. They’d surely get to the bottom of all of this eventually. “If there was a body,” she said, “that means that someone died. What you’re saying is that it wasn’t Ali in that garden. It was someone else. And Ali simply stayed hidden because she feared what A would do if she came back.”

Emily glanced over at Spencer, her brow furrowed slightly, “This is just getting worse and worse.” Of course she was glad that Alison wasn’t actually dead, but that meant that someone else had died and they still didn’t know who or why. She had a feeling that her upcoming dreams were not going to be pleasant at all.
