Dinner with Justin’s family had actually gone better than he’d anticipated. Not because he doubted Justin’s family or their reception (at least not entirely for the last part), but mostly he wasn’t sure if his natural reaction to unusual situations would ring false and make him seem any less himself than normal. But as far as he was concerned, things went well. He’d been more naturally charming than Hollywood charming, which was a positive. Of course Justin’s mother seemed to be a fan and had a few questions, all of which he answered. He didn’t mind questions, but it was likely that he was so used to them, that they seemed to be part of his natural life. They ceased to be unusual and made an unusual situation a little less so.
Royston had never been serious, certainly not enough to meet parents. But Justin had wanted him to come to dinner with his parents and so he’d gone. Now that it was over, all there was to deal with, really, were dishes, but Royston wasn’t too concerned about it. “I’d say that went well. I didn’t even get the ‘If you hurt my son’ speech. I was prepared for it, too. I’d say I was disappointed by this turn of events, but I’ll take it.”
While Justin was happy that Royston had decided to come to dinner and meet his parents, he would have understood if he hadn’t felt comfortable just yet. He didn’t want to move things too fast, but at the same time they had been together for quite some time now so it did make sense that Justin would want his parents and Royston to meet soon.
Luckily, dinner had gone well and there had been very little talk about when Justin was little or anything too embarrassing, but Justin felt that that may have been because his mother had been just a tad bit starstruck. Not that he could blame her really. There were times when even Justin couldn’t believe that he was actually dating someone like Royston.
Justin was finishing up putting away any leftovers when Royston spoke and he couldn't help but laugh, “If you want I can call my dad and tell him he forgot to threaten you.”
Royston shook his head. “No. No, I think we're quite fine without all the threats. I've had enough parental threats to last me at least the year.” Erik’s father was still a miserable asshole and Royston liked getting along with parents when the option was there. Or, well, since this was the first time meeting the parents was supposed to be a positive thing. “Though, I have to say, answering questions about myself has always been easy for me and talking about my films has also been particularly easy as well, so that made things go smoothly in a way.” And he'd mostly been thankful for the excuse to talk about things that were neutral. His acting career was more neutral than any other subject he could have talked about.
“You'll have to tell me if your mother likes flowers or not and what to send her if she does. Also what to send her if not.” He smiled. “I intend for them to like me very much.”
“Alright, I won’t make my dad come back to threaten you,” He teased as he walked across the kitchen to where Royston was and reached up to wrap his arms around the taller man’s neck. Their height difference was just about the same as his and Brian’s so it felt natural for Royston to be taller, “My mom loves flowers. Orchids are her favorite.” He could just imagine what his mother’s reaction would be when she received flowers from Royston. “I think she may be lowkey jealous of me,” He smirked up at his boyfriend then reached up to kiss him.
Royston laughed at Justin’s words, arms moving to wrap themselves around the other man’s waist. “Ah. I bathe in the jealousy of others. Naturally.” But he made a note about the orchids. “But I think she’ll move past it eventually.” The kiss made him smile and he pulled Justin closer. It was nice. This whole...relationship thing. Even when it came to meeting his parents.
“Is that what keeps you looking so good? Bathing in other people's’ jealousy?” Justin was still smiling even as he continued kissing Royston, enjoying the feel of his body close to his own. “Yeah, I don’t think she’ll be jealous forever.” He was sure that his mother was going to call him the next day to gush about Royston and he didn’t blame her one bit.
“Mmmhm. Definitely what it is.” Because obviously bathing in other people’s jealousy created a natural glow and got rid of wrinkles and gray hairs. “I’m sure others will take longer to get over this upset.” He laughed a little at that. “I vote we leave the rest of the cleaning up and do something else. Like anything but the cleaning up.” He leaned down for another kiss, moving to guide Justin out of the kitchen. Why clean up when there were so many more enjoyable things to do? Plus, it could always be done later.
Justin had no problem with leaving the rest of the dishes for later. “Something else sounds good to me,” He smiled into the kiss before nipping at Royston’s bottom lip, “How about we do something else in my room,” He gave Royston his best seductive look as he began moving them through the living room.
Royston tried to keep a smirk from forming. Really, he did. Alas, he was unable to stop himself from smirking. “Something else in your room sounds like a fantastic idea.” The seductive look paid off pretty well for him, but even if it hadn’t been his best, Royston would have followed him anyway. “Especially since you’re going to be there.”
