Irisa was worried about talking to Myrcella about the beachhouse. She’d put off telling her at least twice already but had decided that today was the day. Once Myrcella walked in from work, she’d make them both a cup of tea, sit her down and tell her. Tossing the keys for the beachhouse in her hand, she stared out the kitchen window and waited, heart in her throat.
Myrcella opened her workroom door and showed out the last client of the day, her business was thriving thanks to her hard work as well as the word of mouth from her clients. Entering the kitchen she noticed Irisa, “Hey, you okay?” she asked, seeing her friend look distracted as she moved to wash her hands in the sink.
Irisa’s head whipped around at the sound of Myrcella’s voice and she smiled at her friend. “Hey, yeah, I’m fine,” she turned the already filled kettle on and started making cups up. “Have a good day? Want a cup of tea?” she asked.
“Yeah, it’s been good. I can’t believe how busy I got so quickly” Myrcella smiled, “Oh I’d love one thanks, I was thinking we should order in tonight, what do you think?” She knew Irisa didn’t mind take away and sometimes it was a nice treat and it saved her cooking.
“Sounds good to me, anything that doesn’t involve me trying not to burn the house down is ok in my books,” Irisa grinned. “Chinese? Indian? Or something a bit more random? Nepalese?” she asked.
“Ooo Nepalese, is there a Nepalese takeaway place? It’s not just yak right?” she smirked at Irisa, “Because if it isn’t that could be a fun thing to try”
“I saw one in town the other day and it just stuck in my head really,” Irisa shrugged. “I really hope it’s not actually yak, but I can’t think of anything else it could be,” she laughed, shaking her head. She poured the hot water in the cups and mixed up the tea just the way Myrcella liked it. She’d miss this, she thought sadly. “Your choice, I’m uh...I’m easy so long as it’s edible,” she told her friend.
“I’ll do a google in a bit and see what the food is like but I think we should be brave” Myrcella said watching Irisa with a smile, “So how are you? Things okay?” Myrcella knew that her friend missed Athos, though she was glad the older man had been thoughtful enough to ensure Irisa finished her training and took over the work he’d been doing.
Irisa looked up at her friend and gaped a little before finding the words to answer. “I...I’m ok,” she gave a tight smile. “But uh...I have some news that I need to tell you,” she licked her lips and swallowed thickly.
“Oh? Is it bad news? You seem a little out of sorts, you’re okay right? Like healthy?” she checked, worried now since Irisa seemed uncharacteristically hesitant and the opposite of her confident self.
Irisa looked up a little stunned, not realising how what she’d said came across until Myrcella’s reaction. “Oh, yeah! Yeah, I’m fine! Never been better, no, it’s nothing like that,” she gave her friend a little smile. “It’s uh...it’s about Athos I guess. So, he’s been called back to the CIA and left California, but he also left me something. His beach house,” she told her friend.
“Oh good” Myrcella said when her friend reassured her, she had been worried Irisa had found out something awful and was worried about telling her. “His house!? Oh my god, that’s amazing. It’s so posh and big” she exclaimed, “Don’t you want to live there?” she asked when she realised Irisa still looked a little troubled.
“Well uh...that’s kind of what I wanted to talk to you about. I think I’d like to,” Irisa tried to suppress the wince as she said it before words rushed out of mouth to explain herself. “It’s not that I haven’t loved living with you and Jeremy or that I don’t appreciate all you’ve done for me since Nolan left, and I’ve really enjoyed staying with you because you’re the kindest, sweetest person I’ve ever met! I just don’t want to keep getting in the way of you and Jeremy and that you want to be making a life together…”
“You can stop that right now” Myrcella said firmly, taking her friends hands in hers, “Now I am all for you wanting to live in Athos’ house because it’s awesome and he wanted you too but don’t you dare ever think you’ve been in the way of anything. I love having you here, who wouldn’t want to live with their best friend? So if that is your only reason for moving out then you need to rethink it because it is absolute crap”
Irisa smiled and chuckled as her best friend told her off. “Sorry, I just...I feel like I should live in Athos’ place and keep it in a decent state until, or even if, he comes back,” she tried to explain. “And it can’t be easy doing...couple-y things with someone else in the house. I want you guys to, y’know, have fun in your own house,” she shrugged.
“We have fun, don’t you worry. And we’ve obviously been doing it well if you haven’t noticed” she grinned as she teased her friend a little, “But seriously I am definitely going to miss you. But it’s so cool you get to live in that amazing house”
Rolling her eyes skywards and then hiding her blushing face behind her hand, Irisa couldn’t help but grin at her friend’s implications. Shaking her head and sighing deeply, she dropped her hand onto the table. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily,” she grinned. “After all, I need to have a house-warming...and you’ll need to come over regularly to make sure I haven’t done anything too stupid,” she grinned.
Myrcella meanwhile laughed at her friends response before nodding, “Oh yes you definitely need a house warming” she agreed, “Of course, I think a weekly movie night is in order. We’ll get takeout and wear comfy clothing and continue your movie education”
“Sounds good to me. You’ll have to come up with a plan of movies for us to work through,” Irisa chuckled and nodded. “You’ll help me with party planning right? I was thinking barbecue on the beach,” she shrugged. “Simple and straightforward.”
“I can come up with enough to last us a few years don’t worry about that” Myrcella promised, there were so many films Irisa hadn’t seen it would be easy. “I promise, beach barbecue sounds perfect. It won’t take much planning at all. Any time you want company you just let me know okay? You’re going to love having your own space though, I promise you”
Irisa smiled ruefully. She hoped so.
