Celaena was idly playing with Damian’s hand as she lay back against his chest. They were quietly lying on her bed, just enjoying being together on a sunday afternoon. Her parents had gone out for the afternoon and Celaena was happy just to be spending time with Damian, but something had been playing on her mind since Rey had mentioned it. “So...I’ve been thinking a lot lately…” she started before trailing off. She was nervous about bringing it up, but she wasn’t one to shy away from difficult things.
Damian watched their hands, their fingers, as Celaena fiddled with it, his own hand playing with her long blond hair as it spread out behind her. “What’ve you been thinking about?” He had a feeling that he knew, since she had mentioned the whole living together thing a few weeks earlier. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to live with Celaena, but he wanted to be sure that it was the right time. With Alyssa, he’d already been living at her house before they’d gotten together and her up and throwing him out for no reason, had really messed with him. Sure, it had been quite some time now since that had happened, but this was only his second relationship and he didn’t want anything to ruin it.
Celaena threaded her fingers through his hand and closed them, holding his hand with hers. “About us, about living together,” she told him, turning her head so she could look up at him. It was awkward, but she wanted to try and see him. “What do you think about it? Is it something you’d want?” she asked, slightly worried about his reaction because he hadn't mentioned it after their brief text discussion.
Damian was silent for a moment or two, as he thought about her question, “It’s not that I don’t want to live with you, cause I do. It’s just that, I worry. I worry about whether or not it’s too soon and if we do move in together, what happens if something happens and we break up? I don’t want to mess this up.” He turned his head to look at her face, “Things happened so fast with my first relationship and it took me a long time to get to where I am now. I love you, Cel and I don’t want to lose you.”
Celaena watched him carefully as he spoke and paused when he stopped speaking. Turning over so she lay on his front and hovering over him slightly. “You’ve never really spoken much about her. And what happened,” she remarked quietly as she gently stroked some hair back from his forehead. “It makes me want to track her down and rip her guts out for how badly she hurt you,” she murmured, eyes tracing over his handsome features. She meant it too, and to be honest, she’d probably do more than just rip her guts out but she figured she would improvise when she was in the moment.
Damian couldn’t help but chuckle at that, “Sound like something Bran would have said after the breakup.” Damian missed his best friend and wasn’t ashamed to say that he wished he would move back to the OC at some point in the near future. “But, I’ve never really talked about it cause I didn’t think talking about your ex was something you usually did with your current girlfriend.” When he and Celaena had met, Damian was still trying to get over Alyssa, which was one of the many reasons it had taken him so long to officially ask her out. Until he’d understood what had led to the breakup, he couldn’t move on as much as he had wanted to at the time.
“I think I would have gotten on well with Bran,” Celaena smiled a slow, dangerous smile as she draped herself further over his body, hooking her leg over his. “I get that, I mean, I wouldn’t have wanted to speak about her for the first little while, but I don’t want to make the same mistakes that she did, y’know? I’d like to think I’m not stupid enough to do anything to let you go or push you away,” she told him. “I want to to know the sorts of things that could affect any potential future we might have together,” she admitted quietly with a shy little shrug, the motion dropping some hair to hang over her shoulder.
“I think you guys would have gotten along well too,” Damian brought a hand up to brush a strand of Celaena’s blond hair behind her ear as he looked up at her, “That’s the thing. It wasn’t anything I even did. She just up and kicked me out.” From what he had heard from Peeta, she had basically done the same thing to him as well, “At least, that’s what she told me when we finally got the chance to talk.”
Celaena looked at him seriously for a while, eyes fixed on his and trying to get her head around why someone would treat him so atrociously. “Then she’s an idiot,” she said directly before pushing up and pressing a firm, commanding kiss to his lips and cupping his cheek with one of her hands.
Moving to straddle him and frame his face with her hands, she looked down at him fiercely. “She’s an idiot for turning her back on such a kind, *kiss* generous, *kiss* intelligent, *kiss* strong, *kiss* brave *kiss* and handsome man,” she told him, pressing kisses all over his face, finally pressing a slow, deep kiss to his lips. She pulled back to look at him. “I love you, and if I knew this girl I don’t know what I’d do to her for hurting you so badly,” she told him honestly, thumbs stroking against his cheeks as she spoke.
Damian couldn’t help but smile as Celaena kissed his face. He knew that he was extremely lucky to have found a girl like her and knew that this relationship was completely different than the one he’d had with Alyssa. “What did I do to get so lucky to find you?” His own hands slid from her waist up her back and arms till they were wrapped around her wrists, lightly, as he gazed up at her, “I mean, there’s no doubt about it that it was luck. You have to admit that I’m not exactly the best at flirting or any of that stuff.” To say that Damian had been extremely nervous around Celaena the first few times they had hung out together was an understatement.
“Well as I recall you were stalking me at the backstage door so I'm not sure what luck has to do with it,” Celaena grinned down at him wickedly. “And you did ok with the flirting. Once I'd...warmed you up a bit of course,” she winked and wriggled her hips on top of him. “Regardless, I'm the lucky one for having that stupid woman walk away from you and giving me the chance to get to know you. I don't want to think about how different my life might have been without you in it,” she told him and gently kissed him again. “Thank you for stalking me,” she winked again.
“I would say that I wasn’t stalking you, but I might have been just a little.” He smiled up at Celaena, “Hanging out at the stage door was the only way I knew to see you at first.” At times it didn’t seem like those days had been very long ago, but when he stopped to think about it, he couldn’t believe that it had been over three years since they had first met. “I’m just glad it all worked out.”
Celaena grinned at him and lay herself flat against his chest. “You were so cute when I got you all flustered,” she murmured fondly as she thought back on those memories. “You’ll tell me if you change your mind though, right? If you want us to have our own little love nest,” she dropped her voice for the last part and pressed a kiss to the pulse point of his neck.
Damian smiled and tangled his fingers in her hair, “I’ll be sure to keep you updated.” As far as he was concerned, he just needed a little more time to convince himself that nothing bad would happen if they moved in together. “I promise.”
Celaena smiled down at him. She was glad that they had talked about their future, but she was slightly sad too and she couldn’t help but feel a knot of worry that maybe he didn’t picture his future with her.
