The dreams had come again. Thalia had been half-expecting them; although she hadn’t had them in a while, she couldn’t imagine that whatever story the dreams were telling was by any means at an end. Not when she’d just kicked her boyfriend off a cliff in the last installment. This latest installment brought her in front of her father, and then accepting Artemis’s engagement to be a Hunter. An eternally virginal Hunter. She woke up completely weirded out. If she’d made a vow of chastity in the dreams, she wouldn’t be held to it in real life, would she? Because she liked the very unchaste things she did with her boyfriend. Luke hadn’t had more dreams since the last one. He wasn’t really sure how to handle the gaps between dreams. He both wanted to know how they ended and didn’t want to know how they ended. He just wanted to make sure that they’d all be okay. He really hoped that it didn’t end with him being taken over. He felt the shift of Thalia moving next to him and turned on his side, eyes opening slowly. “Morning,” he mumbled, moving to wrap an arm around her and cuddled up a little closer. “Did you sleep okay?” Thalia stiffened, still caught up in all the emotions and drama of her dreams and of promising to be an eternal virgin, but forced herself to relax. The only way to not get ruined by these dreams was to remember the life she had outside of them, and that included her love for Luke. She sighed, resting her hand on his chest. “Stupid dreams are at it again.” Luke caught the stiffness and it gave him pause. He’d been about to move again, but her hand rested against his chest, so he stayed put. “Well, they’re pretty much always at it.” His brow wrinkled slightly. He was concerned about what she’d dreamt and what it was that happened. Especially when it was something that made her stiffen the way she just had. He wasn’t sure what could have caused that. “What happened now?” Thalia took a moment to gather her thoughts and separate dream from reality. “Zoe Nightshade died on the way to find Annabeth and Atlas, so Artemis needed a new lieutenant. I - Dream I - took on the job. So now I'm a Hunter. Complete with oath of chastity.” Luke stared for a moment. He remembered when Artemis had once asked Annabeth to join her, but she had declined. He’d thought they’d all been on the same general line of thought. But he guessed there wasn’t much choice in the dreams about these things. “So...are you going to stay this age forever now? I mean, technically I’ve always been the older of the two of us, but I might end up really old by the end of this.” “I don't know.” Thalia was obviously troubled. Unlike most people in Hollywood, she didn't mind aging. She'd always been determined to make her youth and her looks the least of her assets. The idea of staying her current age forever held no appeal to her. “I'm more concerned about the other part, where I have to forsake boys.” Luke studied her quietly for a moment. “Well, I was a little concerned about that, but I was going to let you be the one to bring that up.” He moved to take her hand. “We’ll figure it out, all right?” He wasn’t sure exactly how they’d figure it out at this point, but they had to. “And I don’t see why the dreams would hold you to some chastity oath. At least we can hope not.” Thalia threaded her fingers between his. “I mean, what can they do to me? Make me not a Hunter? I'd be okay with that.” She leaned in and nuzzled his throat. “I'd suggest testing it out but I have to get up way too early for us to make the risk worth it.” “I don’t know, but if that’s the end result, I think we’d both be okay with it.” Mostly because he wasn’t sure he wanted to live out the dreams too much. He already had a scar on his face and other things to deal with that came with being a demigod. He didn’t really feel the need to add to it. He hoped nothing really unfortunate transferred over. Outside of the dream injuries. “That is disappointing. But I’m sure we can test it out soon. Without the danger of time getting in the way.” “Yeah.” Quickies were fine and all, but this wasn't the right time for it. Not when the emotions from her dream were still so fresh. She pressed a kiss on the hollow of his neck. “We can try tomorrow.” Luke knew the dreams were generally a lot. They were having the same dreams. Practically. It all got a little hectic and a little crazy. Especially when they had to get up the next day and go about doing things normally. “Yeah. We can definitely try tomorrow.” He kissed the top of her head. “How much longer till you have to get up? I suggest more sleep.” “Definitely more sleep,” Thalia agreed. “I have two more hours.” And hopefully there would be no more dreams. |
