“Well he certainly left you set up didn’t he?” Alucard said as he walked around Athos’ house - currently in the care of Irisa. He had initially been worried when Athos had been recalled to the CIA for an extended project but once he’d explained his plans to have Irisa take over the agency once she got her licence (already paid for by him in advance) and that he was planning to ask her to look after his beach house, Alucard’s worries had disappeared. “What did Myrcella think about you moving in here?” he asked curiously.
Irisa gazed sadly around the place. She missed Athos even though he’d been gone a short while and she could feel him in every nuance of the beech house. Tossing the keys in her hand as she surveyed the room. “I uh...I haven’t exactly told her yet,” she admitted. She liked living with her best friend and she didn’t want Myrcella to think she wasn’t grateful for everything she’d done. Truth be told though, Myrcella and Jeremy probably wanted some space so they could get on with their lives.
“Are you planning to? Or are you planning to live in two places at once?” he asked her with a slightly raised eyebrow. He wondered if she was worried about living alone, while he personally had rather enjoyed it - not that he would change things now he had Integra of course - he knew some people found living with others to be somewhat comforting.
Irisa quirked a sideways look at him, then looked out the back doors and over the sea. She didn’t particularly relish the idea of living alone again but she would if she needed to. “I’ll tell her...I just...I don’t want her to think I’m...ungrateful for her help or anything,” she admitted quietly. “But I also know that she and Jeremy want to be getting on with their lives and I don’t want to be stifling them, y’know?”
“If you wish to stay with them I am sure they would not view it as stifling” Alucard said, “We could take it in turns to check on this place and stay over sometimes” he offered, “If you don’t want to live here you do not have to”
“No I...I want to, I do, I just…” Irisa sighed. “I want to look after this place for Athos because I know he really loved it here, but I’ve not lived on my own for a long time,” she explained reluctantly, moving over to the kitchen counter and putting the keys down. “I might have to look at getting a roommate or something,” she shrugged.
Alucard nodded, “Integra and I shall visit as often as we can” he told her, “But I think perhaps a roommate would be a good idea. If you can find someone whose company you can put up with of course” he added with a smirk.
Irisa huffed a laugh at him and looked across at her friend. “You mean I need to find someone that I’m not likely to kill in the first week?” she joked, before sighing and looking around again. “Thanks, I know it’s not exactly ideal for you two but...I’d really appreciate visitors,” she smiled at him gratefully.
“Essentially” Alucard confirmed with a nod, he knew what she was like mostly because she was similar to himself in some ways. “You will have them, it may be in the evenings when the sun is not so strong but we’ll find ways to visit”
Irisa nearly hugged him for that. Nearly. “Well hopefully I’ll be out of the house working most of the day so I’ll only have evenings free,” she smiled. “God...do I need to have a house warming party or something?” she looked at him, almost horrified.
“Oh yes” Alucard said, his face straight as he replied to her, “A big party, lots of people. And you’ll need to cook too of course” he added.
Irisa glared at him before laughing. “Screw you. As if I know lots of people,” she chuckled before turning to look at the now bland looking place. “It feels so empty...almost like he was never here,” she said quietly.
Alucard laughed, “I had you for a moment there” he said pleased with himself before he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, “He’s with you even if he isn’t here. It says a lot you know, that he entrusted everything to you. He’ll be back and when he is he’ll be prouder than he already is of you” It wasn’t often that Alucard was so serious and sincere but Irisa needed it just then.
Taking a deep breath, Irisa nodded resolutely. “Thanks, now I have to make sure I don’t let him down,” she smiled at him.
