Now that the random singing had stopped Merlin was attempting to get everything back to normal, he had to admit while it hadn’t been awful he was glad his team were focused on their work again and not recreating musicals in the office. He was currently running diagnostics on all the CCTV cameras in the building and was moving onto Tony’s office, since he was the only team member with access.
Entering he was surprised to see Tony actually at his desk, “You feeling okay boss? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen you voluntarily in your office before” he grinned.
Tony quickly clicked off the video that had been playing on his computer monitor, gulped the last of the amber liquid from his glass, and set it down on his desk. “Merlin!” He said, then climbed up from his chair. “Yes. Fine. Nothing.”
Deciding that simply pausing the video of his duet with Jarvis wasn’t enough, Tony reached one hand over and clicked the screen off. “What brings you up here?”
“Checking the CCTV” he said holding up his hand-held diagnostic equipment, “But I can come back later if this is a bad time” he offered, not wanting to intrude if his boss was busy. While Tony was pretty laid back he was still the guy whose name was on the building after all.
“Oh. No. It’s fine.” Tony climbed up from his chair, attempting nonchalance, and moved over to the dry bar. “I can move out of the way and let you take over.” He drew his mobile from his pocket and tapped his fingers on the screen, clearing all the programs he had running on his desktop so it was ready if Merlin needed to use it. “Can I get you a drink while you work?”
“Thanks boss” he said though he gave Tony a somewhat suspicious look at the obvious nonchalance he was trying to pull off. “Have you been watching something you shouldn’t?” he asked with a smile as he connected his diagnostic to the computer to run the programme, “Sure, but don’t go to any trouble”
Tony chuckled softly. “Not very suave, was it? I was just… perusing my duet video with Jarvis 2.0.” He moved to the dry bar and poured them each a finger of some very expensive liquor. Then he offered one of the glasses to Merlin. “There’s only the one copy. It’s… entertaining.” He’d never admit how embarrassing it really was.
“Not up to your usual standard” Merlin admitted with a smile as he accepted the glass with a smile and nod of thanks. “Ah, well I can’t blame you. I may have watched my team’s rendition of Cats a few times” he chuckled.
“Maybe I subconsciously wanted to get caught,” Tony said with a sigh. But it was an amused one. “You have? I thought all copies of those tapes met an untimely demise?” He couldn’t help but grin.
“As far as they know but as you know full well there's always a way” he grinned back. It seemed he and Tony were similar in that sense.
Tony nodded. “Well, let’s hope they stay buried as long as we want them to.” He lifted his glass in a toast, then sipped from it. “How’s the CCTV looking?” He added, glancing at Merlin’s work on the computer.
“All good. Your extra security settings in here are looking strong” he added, because he knew Tony liked to have control over the cameras in his own office and lab. He removed the device and vacated the seat behind the desk, “Thanks for letting me interrupt boss”
“Anytime.” Tony gave his friend a little smile, then sat back down at his desk to get back to work.
