After agreeing to meet up to plot against Joe, Gwen felt it was time to surprise Frank with whom she really was. She already knew the location of the house so it didn’t take her long to arrive. Especially if she was swinging around. As she usually was. So once she landed on the roof of that home she would come to look around for the moment. She knew Joe wasn’t home. That was the whole point. Gwen and Frank were going to have a little fun with Joe.
Once she knew Joe's room was closed, she would literally climb down the side of the house and knock on the front door. Of course, she was upside down above the door, so when Frank would open it, no one would be seen. Least, not until she wanted to be seen.
~~~
Having heard the knock, Frank had come down from his room, expecting there to be a person on the other side of the door. Now, Frank considered himself a very practical person. He was an avid student of physics. However, over the last year, he had come to accept that many of the residents of Orange County defied those rules on a semi-daily basis. In a place where superheroes and gods walked amongst vampires and amateur detectives, it was only natural to expect a bit of the unexpected.
That being said, Frank certainly had not expected someone to try and play ding dong dash at his door. First, because it was the middle of the day. Second, because there was literally no cover to hide behind on their porch. “Hello?” He called out onto the empty porch. “Gwen?”
~~~
When her name was called out, she would smirk. A finger lowered as she came to poke Frank on top of his head. When he would look up, he would see a lovely blonde hanging upside down against the wall of the house. There was really no way for Gwen to be hanging there with no support, and it was visible that she had no support holding her.
Already she came to smirk brightly as she pushed off the wall and front flipped off as she came to land not far from where he was. Joe already knew this about Gwen, which is why they had such a special relationship with each other. He was the first outside Kitty that knew what Gwen could do and has helped her through her meltdowns from her dreams.
“Hi.” She replied with a bright smile on her features.
~~~
At the feeling of something poking his head, Frank raised his hand to brush it away. He looked down, expecting to see a moth or spider skittering away. When nothing happened, he turned his gaze upward. His eyes settled on the upside-down figure above. Dark eyes widened in surprise. Well, that was something he didn’t see every day, even in Orange County.
Frank took a short step back as the person - girl? Woman? - flipped down onto the porch. “Hi.” He replied, more in an automatic response than in greeting. “Gwen? Nice of you to drop by.” Frank managed. Her smile was familiar enough to tug at his memory. Usually, he had a near-eidetic memory with his intricate memory palace, but for some reason, this particular thread was extremely fuzzy. That only happened when he was drunk or sick-
His eyes widened even further in recognition. There may have been a slight tinge of red at the tips of his ears as the last few pieces fell into place. “You’re the thief who tied me up!”
~~~
That smile on Gwen’s features had suddenly turned to embarrassment. Once she got a good look at Frank and realized who he was. It was a while back when something had happened to her. She didn’t feel like herself. “Oh god!” She replied as her cheeks had turned a bright red. She had completely forgotten about that incident, mainly because she thought it was a strange dream.
“Oh god, I’m so sorry! That wasn’t me.” She said as she rubbed her arm nervously for the moment. She had literally forgotten until Frank mentioned it. “Please, don’t tell Joe.” She asked as she made an embarrassed smile in his direction. “We're supposed to put a romper on him and hang him upside down…. Kind alike how I did you.” She said with a nervous laugh and smile.
~~~
“Right. Okay. It’s okay.” I think… “Orange County does strange things sometimes.” The red had spread down his ears and was threatening to cross his jaw. Frank cleared his throat, running a hand nervously through his hair. Forget Joe, he’d never hear the end of it if Belle knew that he had snogged Joe’s friend the day before she had gotten her wings. They had just gotten over one misunderstanding and he sure as apple pie didn’t need another so soon.
Frank swallowed, attempting to smile back and hoping he was doing a better job at waving off the incident than his mind told him he was. “Don’t worry, I won’t say anything to Joe.” He looked back behind him to make sure that the younger Hardy in question had not somehow appeared to overhear their conversation. Frank stepped back inside and held the door open for Gwen. They needed something else to focus on. If they never mentioned the “kissing incident” again, it would be altogether too soon for Frank. “Come on in. Joe should be home any minute now.”
~~~
If the whole thing was awkward for them, then why were they both blushing so hard? Gwen shook her head as she came into the house. She was already familiar with the place so she knew where to put her bag. She typically always brought a bag with her when coming because she’d be staying a few nights as usual. This place had become her second home and the couch her second bed. Already she looked through her bag and pulled out a black and floral romper. “So… I was thinking we can tackle Joe and put this on him.” She replied as she smiled and held the outfit out for Frank to take hold of.
“And then I’ll string him up like I did you.” She said as that flashback came back and so did that redness to her cheeks as she came to shake her head suddenly and looked at Frank. “Look, this is stupid. We shouldn’t be turning red because we shared a kiss. I mean… It’s not like it meant anything. Right?” She asked with a kinked up brow as she waited for an answer from Frank. “And don’t worry, I’ve never kissed Joe. I had a crush on him, told him and he said he didn’t feel the same so we became best friends.” She replied with a firm nod as she thought for the moment.
“Actually, if I’m being honest that’s the first and only kiss I’ve had since being here.” She said realizing how non-existent her love life was now. It was almost depressing. “I need a drink.” She said as she made a light face as she moved to the fridge to grab a beer. She knew Joe was always stocked up. “Chinese?” She said for them to share and plot about Joe and the Romper.
~~~
Frank frowned. Well, no, the kiss hadn’t meant anything. One might even argue he hadn’t even been a willing participant, bound up and strung upside down as he had been. However, it was also a normal reaction to blush when recalling an event that would be considered a bit scandalous in polite company.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to read into it or anything.” She’d had a crush on Joe? Frank winced. That was news to him. Poor Gwen. Frank figured that his brother would probably hate to find out that he knew about Gwen’s one-sided crush. That gave him a reason to smile as he followed Gwen into the kitchen. “I’m sure you’ll find someone. Just give it time, right?” That was what his mother had always said.
“Chinese sounds great. What would you like?” Frank pulled out his phone to place the order. After over a year in Orange County, he knew most of the delivery place numbers by heart. He pointed to a few of the unlabeled beer bottles. “The dark brown ones are the new IPA if you want to try it. I bottled last week.”
~~~
“Just tell them it’s for Gwen. They have my order on file.” She said laughing lightly. But she was glad to hear the kiss didn’t mean anything. “Yeah, I’ve been waiting.” She said laughing as she brushed her hair from her face and came to take the beer in hand and have a seat on her second bed. “But, if it happens, it happens.” She said with a firm nod and bright smile on her features. “Now, how to get this on Joe.” She said thinking for the moment. “Any ideas?” She asked him since he was the older brother after all. Gwen almost felt bad doing this, but the thought of it also made her laugh. So she knew it was going to be completely worth it.
“Also, if Joe isn’t here I’m crashing in his bed. The couch is amazing but I’d like something a little softer.” She said laughing lightly as she placed her phone on the side table and looked to Frank once more. He seemed nice and was even more awesome for doing this with her.
