Man, that singing stuff was absolutely insane. York was still getting over having heard things he didn’t really want to hear--and singing things he didn’t really want to sing, too--by heading to the bar. He couldn’t drink with Wash anymore, considering Wash was completely off the booze now. And he was keeping his distance from Carolina. That was a crazy story. Poor Kanan lost his sight, too, so most of York’s drinking buddies were MIA. He headed to the bar to have a couple of drinks and take his mind off everything.

It just so happened that Athos was already in the bar York had gone into and when he noticed him he raised his drink in welcome. He didn’t know the man well but they’d seen each other at the shooting range and started talking, he was a good man and Athos wouldn’t mind his company. “Hey York, how you doing?” he greeted him as he came close enough to hear.

York turned at the sound of his name, and was relieved to see someone he knew. He turned to head over, nodding and smiling warmly. “Athos. Good to see you!” The one-eyed man gave the other a solid, friendly clap on the shoulder. Then he took the stool next to his, and flagged down the bartender for a drink. “What brings you in here?”

“You too” he replied before shrugging, “Just relaxing a bit after a long day I guess. Saves drinking at home alone, and this is a pretty good place. No loud music or young people” he grinned, “How about you?”

“Good prices, too,” York said, and gave a nod and a smile to the bartender who put a beer down on the counter in front of him. “It’s a good way to unwind. My brother’s busy with his young family, one of my best friends is a recovering alcoholic, and the other’s dealing with the first. I’m still feeling pretty new to the area, though, so I stick with the places I know.”

“Definitely good prices” Athos agreed, taking a sip of his own beer. “Ah, well in that case consider me your new drinking buddy. Call on me whenever you wish” he smirked, “I can show you a few other good places” Athos knew a lot of them, he didn’t have a drinking problem but he did like a drink and a decent one.

“Hey, I like the sound of that.” York lifted his pint glass and clinked it against the other man’s, then sipped and set it back down again. There was a twinkle in his good eye. The other was milky, surrounded by scars. But somehow it didn’t affect the friendly nature of his expression. “Win-win.”

Athos gave a nod, “Absolutely. Always good when you don’t have to drink alone” choosing to was one thing but having to when there was no other option was never quite as enjoyable. “How’s the practice going? Still hitting central?” he asked, since they hadn’t seen each other at the range much lately. Athos has been training Irisa at the set-up he had in his garage.

“It’s all right.” Since York was one-eyed, he had a bit of a problem when it came to sighting and depth perception. But that didn’t mean he didn’t practice. He was no longer a marine (Oohrah) but a normal, average citizen. He didn’t have to keep up his training, though he definitely wanted to. “I haven’t logged as many hours lately as I really should. What about you? I haven’t seen you at the range in a while.”

Despite the issues he had Athos was still impressed with York’s ability, he was a pretty good shot and had obviously had good training. “I’ve had one installed at home” he admitted, “I’m teaching an apprentice I’ve got, so it made sense to sort out my own training space. You’re welcome to come by” he added.

York’s perfect and disfigured eyebrows both raised at that thought. “Really? Yeah, I’d like that.” It’d be nice to go somewhere where he wasn’t worried people were staring at the scar on his face, wondering how it came about, wondering if he could still see properly enough to fire a weapon. “Let’s make it happen.”

“Great, let me write down my address and number then you can just drop me a line when you wanna swing by” Athos said, pulling out a pencil from his pocket and grabbing a fairly clean beer mat. “It’s on the beach” and was pretty impressive though to Athos it was just home now.

“That sounds great.” York watched as the other man wrote down his information, then accepted it and put it in his pocket. “I’ll send you a note.” He gulped from his glass, pleased with the arrangement.
