Rogue was napping with her head on the counter of a taste of home. She liked lazy days. Okay so it wasn't lazy she was not doing paperwork. White and red locks tangled under her fingers as the staff of the place moved around her.
The knew when to just let her be. Except a nightmare woke her up with a jolt, elbow knocking a glass over, it shattering on her flip flop covered feet. Blood welled up even as she struggled to pull her brain back together.
Well that was an interesting sight to see. A woman face down on the counter, just napping. Though Xena could understand being that exhausted. She wasn’t quite close enough to catch the glass before it fell. “ Hey, you okay?”
Rogue grumbled as she sat up, lifted her foot and rolled her eyes as she focused. “Yeah no I'm good. Fucking nightmares.” The blood stopped flowing, glass popped out and hit the floor and it started to heal.
Then she grinned, tired and on edge. “Nice to see ya again”
“Nightmares ain’t ever fun.” Xena cracked a grin at her. “Wanna get a drink and talk about it?”
“Well if we drink here, is on the house.” Rogue disappeared into the back to grab the blood spill kit then cleaned up where she'd leaked.
“On the house is the best thing I’ve heard all day.” Xena took a seat and leaned on the bar. “Sounds like you’re not doing okay.”
Rogue laughed as she disposed of the mess and stood on the other side of the counter. “What's your poison?” She shrugged a bit. “It's complicated. And a friend of mine didn't help much.” She shook her head pulling out a bottle of moonshine from back home. She kept that for herself.
“Surprise me.” Xena flashed a grin at her. “Why don’t you start from the beginning. Easier that way and makes it less complicated.”
Rogue nodded sharply, dug around a little then mixed up a moonshine sweet tea. The sweetness took the bite down a notch. She slid the mug over. “Been working too hard. That's not new or anything. But I usually call someone to drag me out of here. A friend with benefits thing.” Which rogue was trying to remind everyone she wasn't clingy. By pursuing away. Healthy coping skills they do not have.
Xena picked the mug up and knocked back half of it. “Getting your boots knocked together is a good way to relieve stress. Sometimes it ain’t though. Sounds like it ain’t been workin’ so hot lately with your friend. Maybe you need a change of venue.”
“Oh that part has been great. It's the part where people think it should be more than that. Now I feel awkward.” She instead sipped at hers. Savoring things. “So I'm burying myself back here.” She was annoyed at herself , evident by the tapping on her glass. In her annoyance she almost put a finger through it.
“Do you want it to be more than that? Hell, does he? Because if you ain’t on the same page that’s a recipe for disaster. Attachment is a bitch.” Xena couldn’t really relate, though it had happened once or twice. Lately though, her mind was centered on Gabrielle, and there was a string of pretty blondes behind her because of it.
“Nope. Ain't the attachment kind.” She waved a hand lazily. “Tried that a couple times. Backfired pretty badly. They're lucky I haven't taken off for the other side of the country at the mere suggestion.” That was pretty honest, she was far better at running. “Just one of those someone said something, freaked us both out and now it feels weird.”
“What you gonna do about it?”
“Work until I fall over, get into a few good bar fights until he gets mad enough at me to come drag my ass from behind the counter.” Rogue looked down. She had trust issues
“Assuming he actually shows up.. Might be he’s decided you need to figure this out without him.” Xena poked her in the shoulder. “But lucky for you, I’m here.”
“Ain’t worried about it, he shows sometime he does, he doesn’t he doesn’t.” she’d be more heartbroken if he never showed his face at hers again than she’d tell anyone. But she laughed when she was poked in the shoulder. “Ain’t hard to figure it out - stay, hide, run - are my usual options and all are easier than pie.”
“Finish your drink. We’re going out.” Xena demonstrated by finishing the rest of her drink. “I could use a good fight or a good fuck and you’re gonna give me at least one of those.”
Rogue tipped the glass back and polished off the moonshine without a second look. “Ain’t good at the latter, myself, but ah’m always good for the former.” she smirked a bit as she got to her feet, waving to her staff.
“Pity.” She looked Rogue up and down, then got to her feet. “Lets go find a nice place to beat the shit out of some people. Got any ideas?”
Rogue laughed a little. “You have no idea how much I do hear that.” she brushed her hair out of her eyes. “There’s a few places we can go, I suppose.” she rattled off a couple addresses on the outskirts of town and in some of the nasty parts of town.
“Okay.” Xena swept her arm in the direction of the door. “Lead on, and lets go kick some ass.”
Rogue ducked out, before grabbing her bike. She'd gotten rid of the old one, her friend had purchased for her, but this one was more her style..”Need a ride or?”
“I got a ride,” Xena assured her. “Just make sure you can keep up. I’d hate to lose ya.”
Rogue laughed. “Don’t even worry about that.” she smirked as she slid on her bike and waited to follow.
Grinning, Xena gunned the engine, and took off. There was ass to be kicked!
