Bubbles knew it was silly to be upset about Blossom moving out, but she could already feel herself missing her sister and she hadn’t even moved out yet. She’d been working on accepting her moving out, but it was supposed to be further down the road. It wasn’t supposed to be now or almost now. She knew she’d have to get over it, though. Blossom wasn’t going to stop being around. Bubbles knew that. It’s just that she hadn’t gotten used to the idea of Blossom being gone yet.
Bubbles hadn’t taken the time to style her hair or even blow dry it, so it was still partially damp and hung around her face in a manner she was sure echoed her current feelings. She’d even gone for less make up and pants over her normal blue dress. Her top was still blue, though.
She made her way to Stefan’s after her shift was over (and after stopping at home to shower first). She let herself in and peeked in the rooms until she found her boyfriend, moving to lean against him once she did. “I was supposed to have more time to prepare,” she said, frowning a little.
Stefan didn’t really care what Bubbles looked like. She could be dressed up to the nines, or show up in her pajamas. Stefan would love her either way. It was interesting to him, though, to see how her appearance reflected what was going on inside her. Stefan was pretty much always wearing the same type of thing; slacks and a button-down shirt. Though, sometimes he wore t-shirts. And every once in a while he wore pajama pants. When he was at work he wore coveralls. But that was neither here nor there.
He stood when he heard her coming down the hall and moved forward in the room to meet her when she came in. He’d been reading on his bed, the lights dimmed, already wearing the aforementioned pajama pants. His arms wrapped around her. “You still have a little time.”
Bubbles let herself relax against Stefan. Just his being there and the way he smelled was comforting to her. Stefan always had a way of making her feel better. “It’s only a week,” she said quietly, pouting a little. Blossom was suddenly leaving her. She knew that it was going to be okay. They’d be okay. There would still be get-togethers and sleepovers and time together. But she’d have to adjust still to her sister being gone. Really, she should be home, laying on her sister and looking sad until she left.
But she was here, leaning on Stefan and looking sad.
“How’s Anna doing? Do we need to walk over and give her cuddles?”
“A week’s enough, depending on how you use it.” Stefan said, lifting a hand to run over her hair. He held her close, secure, trying to be as comforting as he possibly could. He liked to hope that this could be good for all of them. The three girls were all growing up and growing apart a little, but they were moving on to really beautiful and wonderful things.
“I think she’s okay.” He finally pulled back to look down into her eyes. “I think she’s headed to the hospital tonight. Do you want to go find her before she leaves?”
Bubbles was seriously considering calling for blanket forts or a week of movie nights and cuddles. But she knew they had things to do some nights. Blossom had homework and Buttercup...she had things to do, too. But they could do some things together. She was going to demand cuddles, though. She deserved them. She knew that eventually things would change and that they might move out and get their own places. Especially now. Tyler was a nice guy and Blossom was happy. She was happy for her sister’s happiness, but she wasn’t the biggest fan of change. At least not this sort of change.
She looked up at Stefan, nodding. “Very quickly. We can find her for a quick cuddle before she leaves. Lulu can come with!” But then she might already be there.
Hopefully Stefan wouldn’t be taking up too much of Bubbles’ sister time over the next week before Blossom moved out. He didn’t want to get in the way. At the same time, he’d do whatever she wanted him to do.
“I bet Lu’s already in her room.” Stefan said. He took hold of Bubbles’ hand with his own, gently, and then led the way down the hall toward Anna’s room.
Anna was pacing around in her room, verging on frantically, and packing things into a small, overnight bag. She glanced over when Stefan and Bubbles entered, and gave them a distracted smile. “Hey.”
Bubbles followed Stefan to find Anna, who looked very frazzled. Even when she spoke, she seemed frazzled. She noticed Lulu sitting off to the side, looking slightly uneasy. She let out a small whine and Bubbles told her that it was going to be all right before turning her attention back to Anna.
“Hey,” she said, moving a little closer. It meant letting go of Stefan’s, but she figured this was a good enough reason. Anna needed it. “We just wanted to check in on you before you left to visit Wash.” She got close enough to reach her hand out and place it on Anna’s arm. “Thought you might need a hug before you went.” She looked at the overnight bag. “And maybe a little help with packing.”
Stefan lingered in the doorway. He nodded to the dog, who started to thump her tail wildly back and forth--apparently relieved that Mom and Dad were here to help with Crazy Big Sister who so desperately needed a keeper. Stefan folded his arms across his chest now his hand was free, letting the girls talk.
“I’m okay. I mean, sure. Yes. Hugs are always appreciated,” Anna said, her smile growing a little, but not brightening. She reached forward and wrapped her arms around Bubbles in a tight hug. “I just don’t know what to do. What to bring, I mean. To the hospital.” She pulled back, a fresh set of tears forming in her eyes. “I just want him to wake up already.”
Bubbles wrapped her arms around Anna as well, careful not to squeeze too hard. She wanted to make her feel comforted, not squish her. “It’s okay. I’ll help you.” Her expression softened a little as she listened to Anna. “I’m sure he’ll wake up soon. I’ll make sure to have all of my positive thoughts on. Maybe once he feels the strength of my positivity he’ll just wake up.” She took her hand, squeezing it lightly before moving to help her finish packing up her bag. “I’m here if you need me for anything, okay? No matter what! If anything happens, let us know, okay?”
Bubbles gave really tight hugs. And hand squeezes. Anna wasn’t exactly sore, but she was a little tender. She nodded, letting Bubbles continue packing her things for her. Bubbles was doing a much better job than she would have, anyway. “Okay.”
Stefan appeared in the doorway with Anna’s toothbrush, hairbrush, toothpaste, and make-up bag from the bathroom. He knew they were Anna’s, because Lexi would never be caught dead with a pink, rainbow, shimmery, cat-adorned, make-up bag. He offered the items to Bubbles to pack, too, then wrapped an arm around Anna’s shoulders. “You’ve got your charger, right? If you need anything at all, call.”
Bubbles carefully made sure that everything was packed and put together so Anna could go as soon as she wanted to. She wasn’t going to keep her now that she was all packed up. “We’re here no matter what!” She smiled over at Stefan before looking back at Anna. “Even if it’s the middle of the night.” Because she had a feeling Stefan could wake up pretty easily if he wanted to. His hearing was better that way.
Anna nodded, then reached forward to hug each of them once more. She was very distracted as she grabbed her bag from the bed. “G'night, guys. I'll see you later. Thanks for the help.”
Stefan let Anna go, then led bubbles back into his bedroom. “I'm pretty sure York is picking her up tonight. He's been really good about making sure she gets where she needs to go.”
Bubbles nodded, following Stefan back to his room. Her mind felt a little distracted now. She was worried about Anna, but she knew she probably didn’t need to be. At least not completely. “I hope that Wash wakes up soon.” She hoped he’d wake up. Period. But she didn’t say that. Instead, she just climbed onto his bed and waited for him to follow suit so she could curl up next to him and steal every cuddle she could. “I love you, Stefan. Don’t ever go into a coma, please.” She didn’t think that he would. He was a vampire. “I’ll try not to go into a coma too. Promise.”
Stefan nodded. He closed the door behind them once they were in his room, then moved to the bed and settled back, arms wrapping around her as she cuddled close. “I love you, too.” He turned and pressed his face into her hair. “I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep. Who knows what the Dreams have in store for me. But I’ll do my best to stay with you. Always.”
The idea that the dreams would do something made Bubbles cuddle even closer to Stefan. “Okay.” It would have to be enough because she wasn’t sure how to make sure that either of them would be safe. “I’ll do my best too.”
