Wanda couldn’t catch a break it seemed. Having been attacked by a group of Storm Troopers earlier in the day and meeting Constance, Wanda found herself again confronted by a squad of Storm Troopers. Her red shield was the first thing that she threw up in defense against their blasters, but once they got closer it became harder to defend against. She didn’t want to kill any of them, she didn’t really want to hurt any of them really, but she might have to.
Stormtrooper armor was designed to reflect laser fire, and some concussive type blasts. What it wasn’t designed for was old fashioned chemically drive projectiles. Wanda might have qualms about hurting them, but Natasha had long ago accepted that her job required blood.
Two gunshots rang out, red staining the helmets of two troopers. Natasha jumped down onto a third, twisting around his shoulders and throwing him to the ground. She shattered the faceplate of the fourth with her elbow, and flipped behind the fifth and snapped his neck. She used his body as a shield against the sixth and then shot him with the fifth’s blaster.
She dropped him to the ground, and ran over to Wanda. Better Nat carry the stain than her.
“Natasha! Что ты здесь делаешь?” Wanda gasped after watching her friend take down the guards in seconds. She had lapsed into Russian in the heat of the moment without realising as she looked at Wanda with wide eyes.
“Назовите это предчувствием,” Natasha replied, cupping Wanda’s face and inspecting her for injury. Satisifed, she grabbed her arm. “We need to get you to safety. There’s some heavy resistance to the south. Big walkers.” The last part she muttered to herself, “Как часовой механизм, каждый год это Звездные войны.” Like clockwork, every year its Star Wars.
“A premonition?” Wanda asked curiously, following Nat trustingly. “What were those things? Who are they?” she asked as Nat led the way. “Can I help you? I know I am not...trained like you, but I am learning,” she offered.
“They’re stormtroopers. Basically shock troops, from someone’s dreams. And they’ve decided to invade Orange County.” She glanced back at Wanda and nodded. “Just keep your mind focused, and direct your energy at them. The walkers are my biggest concern.”
They came around the corner and she pointed at a pair of 4-legged metal monstrosities.
Wanda listened intently to Nat as she spoke, following her quietly as they moved through the streets. Looking up at the thing Nat pointed at, Wanda could only gape up at it. “Вот дерьмо,”she muttered. “I can’t...how are we supposed to deal with that?!” she asked. People-sized objects were one thing, but she had never used her power on something that big before.
Natasha gave it a considering look, then glanced at Wanda. “Give me two minutes to do a sweep and make sure no innocents are around, and then use your powers to crumble it up like a piece of paper.”
Wanda reached out to grab Nat’s arm before she could head off. “I...I have not done anything like that before, it is too big!” Wanda protested, not at all confident in her ability to actually do what Nat was asking.
She took Wanda’s hand, and squeezed it. “I have faith in you. I know you can do this. You just have to dig deep in yourself, and let it come.”
Wanda gaped for a second or two before nodding, choosing to believe in Nat’s faith in her more than anything else. There were people in the city who needed help and Wanda could only try her best to help them.
