Who: Eliot Waugh and Felix Dawkins
When: Backdated: Tuesday, March 28th. Night
Where: A local gay club
What: Flirting moves from the network to in person
Rating/Warnings: Nothing too bad.
Status: Complete
Eliot had told a little white lie about planning to check out the club that the guy on the network had mentioned to him but it wasn’t like it hurt anyone. He’d heard the name in passing a few times since moving out here of course but he didn’t really plan much in the way of his own personal life, choosing to just see what happened to him and what came up that could be fun. A night of dancing and drinks with a good looking stranger? That definitely equaled fun in his experience.
He made his way over to the bar, dressed as casually as he ever did in a pair of jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt as he looked over the crowd. He was trying to appear nonchalant and casual as he kept an eye out for the guy, talking, and yes flirting a little, with the cute guy next to him. Whatever happened he wasn’t planning on going home alone tonight.
***
Felix wasn’t going to hold his breath that the guy he’d talked to, okay, flirted a little with, on the Net, was actually going to show up and even if he did, there was a possibility that they wouldn’t even find each other at the club. However, that didn’t mean that Felix wasn’t going to go. Since Josh had left, he’d spent a little time moping around the apartment, but then he’d had to go back to work and he had spent the last few weeks immersing himself in his work, until now when he decided that he needed to get out and have some fun. He knew that Josh didn’t want him to become dull and boring so he’d decided to go out and made the post on Valarnet to see if he could get anyone else to come out with him.
After talking to the man, on Valarnet, he’d gotten changed, a pair of leather pants, a black shirt that had once been a t-shirt, but was now missing the sleeves and had a deep cut out in the front that showed off a good amount of Felix’s pale chest. His hair was mussed around with a minimal amount of product and his eyes were lined with black liner.
He was currently leaning against one end of the bar, smirking at the bartender as he ordered a drink.
***
Eliot turned his head a little, looking for a bartender to order a drink, his attention already wondering from the man beside him and he smiled a little when he saw his “date” from earlier at the other end of the bar. “Sorry handsome. I think something better might have just walked in.” He said, winking at the kid as he walked away.
He slid up beside the man, eyes roaming over the way those pants fit him just right before speaking quietly. “Surprise seeing you here,” a note somewhere between flirting and teasing leaking into his voice.
***
Felix’s drink had just been set on the bar when he heard someone speak next to him. “I said I’d be here, didn’t I?” He asked as he recognized the man beside him as the one he had been speaking to on the Net. A similar tone in his own voice, “And now that you’re here…” He held a hand out to the other man, “Felix Dawkins. Don’t think we exchanged names earlier.” He’d realized afterwards that he hadn’t caught the handsome stranger’s name, but had figured that if he showed up, he could get it then.

If there was a higher power they either really loved Eliot or were going to get a kick out of torturing him because this man was British on top of everything else? He was definitely glad he’d decided to come out tonight to check out this place. “Yes you did. If I’d known you were going to be dressed like this I’d have put a little more effort into my own outfit. I’ll know better next time.” He said smiling as he watched out to shake his hand. “Eliot Waugh.” He tried to avoid getting people’s names at the first meeting because it might lead to him getting attached to them and that wasn’t something he wanted to risk with most people.
***
“This old thing?” Felix asked, gesturing at his outfit, a smirk spreading across his lips, “This isn’t even one of my better outfits.” After spending quite a lot of time in sweatpants, during the moping stage of his breakup, Felix had decided on leather pants tonight because they made him feel like all eyes were on him when he wore them. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Eliot.” There were times when Felix also preferred no names, but that was usually when he was sure he would never see the person again, but he already knew that this man was on Valarnet, so there was a pretty good chance that he’d see him again in some capacity. “Now that you’re here, can I buy you a drink?” He did sort of invite Eliot out after all, so it only seemed right for Felix to buy him a drink.
***
Eliot looked him over again, making it more obvious this time. “They get better than those pants? Please tell me you’re not teasing because I would love to find out how that’s possible,” he said leaning against the bar beside him. He turned his attention to the bartender that was still nearby, almost reluctantly long enough to order a martini and then looking back at Felix. “So...how long have you been in California?” He could play at being polite and patient for a little bit he figured. Felix was just getting over a breakup - manners might help Eliot in getting the other man to want a little more than conversation at some point. Maybe.
***
Felix’s full lips turned up into yet another smile and he nodded, “I’ve been told that my assless come in a pretty close second to these.” Assless chaps though weren’t exactly appropriate in most situations so they only got brought out on special occasions. As Eliot ordered his drink, Felix put some money down on the bar top before answering his question, “A couple of years now. Probably more than just a couple by now, but time has gone by so bloody fast that sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly when it was.” Sarah had had Kira before he’d moved so it was less than ten years ago, he knew that for sure.
“Have you been here long?” He asked, taking a sip of his own drink as he allowed himself check Eliot out as well. Yeah, he was just getting over his breakup, but it wasn’t like they had only broken up yesterday; it had been over a month now and he knew Josh wouldn’t want him to pine away for him.
***
Eliot had to fight to keep his reaction to that sudden mental image from showing on his face as he turned slightly to lean back against the bar. Damn tight jeans - there were drawbacks and benefits both to them. “I’d have put these as a close second to them personally. Better view I imagine.” He said, winking at him as the bartender handed him his drink.
“A few weeks. New York got boring for me. I needed some new challenges in my career. Or at least some new people.” He said with a small shrug. His work in New York had gotten to a point where he was seeing all of the same people at almost all of the parties he organized. Nothing new - at least here he could meet new people. “Plus - I was ready to be my own boss instead of an assistant to the boss.”
***
Felix grinned against the rim of his glass as he took a sip of his drink and nodded, “I haven’t had any complaints.” Except from Sarah, but that was to be expected from his sister who, he was sure, was tired of seeing his ass. “Went to New York for a few weeks when I first moved out here, but I like it here better.” While he might have been acclimated to the cold of the East Coast, having come from England, he much preferred the sun and heat of California, even if the sun and his skin didn’t exactly get on well on occasion. He’d learned early on, that sunscreen was an essential out here.
“What career is that then?” It seemed like a lot of people came out to California for work; especially starting their own business.
***
“New York was the only place I wanted to be growing up. Always something going on there. Good or bad.” Eliot said with a noncommittal shrug. He’d been involved in his fair share of both but it had always been exciting. “Out here is a lot more relaxed. I’m still trying to learn my way around here.” He said taking a sip of his martini.
“I’m an event planner. My boss gave me her West Coast client list when I moved out here, assured them that she’d taught me everything I knew so they’d be in good hands. So far talking to them has left me bored out of my skull. What about you? What do you do for a living?”
***
When Eliot mentioned what he did, Felix couldn’t help the way one eyebrow quirked up a little, an amused smirk on his lips, “No bloody way. I’m a party planner. Have my own business and everything.” Reaching into his back pocket, he pulled out his wallet and produced one of the few business cards he had in there and handed it to Eliot, “What’re the odds?” He slipped his wallet back into his back pocket then took another sip of his drink, “I’m curious now if I’ve ever met your old boss.” Felix knew a number of other party and event planners and it was possible that he knew Eliot’s old boss.
***
Eliot noticed that reaction to his career and he took another sip of his drink. This was the moment of truth - either he’d be asked to help plan a party or something that Felix was throwing or be asked why he’d gone into that career path. Either way the conversation would come to a halt. But Felix surprised him when he pulled out his business card. He laughed a little as he slid the card into his pocket and relaxed again, leaning against the bar casually.
“If you did she’d have made an impression. Carla is memorable.” He loved that woman and her loud mouth and attitude but she could be a bitch and he knew it. She got the job done though. Whatever it took.
***
Felix understood that better than anyone. He’d met quite a few people who, upon finding out what he did, asked him to plan parties for them. He usually just gave them his business card and told them to call the office. Most of them didn’t expect to actually have to pay for someone to plan a party for them, so that shut the, up quickly and he’d only ever hear back from a handful of them.
He thought for a moment then shook his head, “Don’t think I’ve ever met anyone from New York named Carla.” Especially no one in the same business. Felix usually kept the important names in his cell and he didn’t have a Carla there, “If you need any help or anything; I’m not the sort to sabotage the competition.” Felix smirked at Eliot.
***
“Count yourself lucky. She’s brilliant and a great teacher and boss but she can give you a headache in about three minutes flat.” Eliot said with a grin. “Likewise. I actually came out here so that I wouldn’t mess up her business. I like to have...good relationships with people. Although there is something to be said for not mixing business with pleasure. I’ve never had that much of an issue with it but I know some people are really against it. What about you Felix? Where do you fall on the side of the pleasure debate?”
***
Felix thought for a moment and took another sip of his drink before speaking, “I think that it all depends.” He leaned in a little closer to Eliot, “I think if you’re enough of a professional, a little pleasure won’t hurt the business.” Felix didn’t mess around with anyone who actually worked for him, but people outside his own business were fair game and he was usually a pretty good judge of who might get him in trouble and who wouldn’t.
***
“Only a little pleasure?” Eliot teased, a little smirk on his face as he leaned in towards Felix to murmur next to his ear. “I think we could do better than that if we put our minds to it.” There were manners and then there was wasting time beating around the bush. And unless he was really misinterpreting the signs from Felix - the other man seemed like he might be interested. At least a little bit.
***
Oh Felix was interested. He’d have to be blind and stupid not to be and now that he knew for sure that Eliot was interested, he didn’t have to worry about coming on too strong. He licked his full lips as Eliot’s warm breath ghosted over his ear and reached out, placing a hand on the taller man’s chest, “Well, they do say that two heads are better than one.” He added a wink as if to punctuate his sentence.
***
Eliot let his lips brush over Felix’s skin as he pulled back, taking a sip of his drink before setting it on the bar. “I’ve heard that. What do you say we put it to the test?” He asked giving him a flirty smile as he reached out to touch his side. “My apartments not that far from here.” He said, raising one eyebrow questioningly.
