Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Anna of Arendelle and Agent Washington
When: April 11 ish? After this exchange
Where: Wash’s hospital room
What: Anna brings contraband to Wash in the hospital
Rating/Warnings: Low/None (some emotional stuff, since Wash just woke from his coma)
Status: Complete!

Anna couldn’t get to the hospital fast enough. She probably broke a couple of speed limits on the way, and thankfully wasn’t pulled over by any cops. It was a place that she’d grown used to, though she reflected on her way in that it wasn’t really the kind of place anyone (save those who worked there) should really grow used to. Speaking of the workers, she had to pause a few times to say hi to some of the nurses, janitors, and other staff members that she’d befriended while she was staying by Wash’s bedside. They all seemed happy for her that he was awake.

“Wash?” She spoke when she hit the ward, well before she even ended up at his room. Then she rushed in closer, double-checking the number by the doorway four times to make sure this was the right room. “Wash??”

Wash heard Anna’s voice outside in the corridor. At first he wasn’t sure if he’d actually heard her. But it was only another moment before her red head poked through the door.

The last thing Wash had wanted was for Anna to see him like this, in a hospital bed, his shaved head wrapped in gauze, hooked up to machines with an IV pumping him full of pain medication. But the moment she appeared at the door, he was so happy to see her. He couldn’t help but smile at her, albeit a little dopily. “Anna,” he breathed in a voice still a little croaky. He tried to push himself up so he was sitting up a little straighter in bed.

Anna wasn’t really prepared for the flood of emotions that washed through her at the sight of Wash’s opened eyes, the dopey smile on his drugged up face. She gave something that was between a laugh and a sob, then rushed across the room to fling herself across his chest in a giant hug. She was crying, but she was so happy. So relieved. She could hardly believe it. “I missed you so much!”

Wash gave a little “oof” when Anna flung herself across him. His arms still felt a bit heavy and it took a lot of effort for him to move, but he put his arms around her and held her tightly. The cool tubing of his I.V rested along her back. Wash pressed his face into her soft hair. He breathed in the smell of her shampoo and cherished the softness of her against him. He murmured against the top of her head. “I didn’t mean to make you worry, but I’m gonna be alright.”

It probably didn’t take as long as it felt for Anna to start to chill out a little, and settle down her breathing. She was hugging him super tight, pressing her body into his, fighting off the waves of emotion that were washing over her. Relief. Joy. Love. She finally pulled back and started to wipe at her face with her hands. “It’s what I do.” She said, sniffing. “I worry about the people I love.” Then she reached for his hand, ignoring the tears on her own fingers. “I’m so relieved. Did you… I mean, was it Dream related? Like Carolina said?”

Wash let his fingers intertwine with hers. His hand was cold thanks to the I.V. He looked at her carefully as if trying to pull together what had happened. “I think so. We were attacked and I got hit with a concussion round and then clocked on the back of the head. It messed up my side pretty bad.” And Anna saw the results to getting hit in the back of the head with a rifle.

Wash raised his other hand to touch the side of her face. “I’m gonna be alright,” he assured her. “I’ve been through worse.”

Anna bit her lip when he explained what happened in the Dream, and then gave his hand a gentle squeeze. It hurt her to know that he was going through all these horrible things, and that they were still plaguing him in his waking hours. She couldn’t imagine what he was going through, but she was so proud of him--so proud of how strong he was. It made her love him all that much more. “I know you are. You have to be.” She insisted, sounding determined and convinced. She leaned forward to tap a kiss against his lips. “And I’m here to help you through it. I mean, we can get through anything, you and me.”

Wash was a survivor. That was the one thing he was absolutely sure about. Like a cockroach, he always managed to live through the worst kinds of shit, both in the Dreams and in the waking world -- and the bit that overlapped.

Wash smiled at her, leaning his wrapped forehead against hers. There had been a time in his life -- not that long ago, really -- when he believed he would always be on his own. He didn’t feel that way anymore. He had people he could depend on: Carolina and York; Stefan and Katou; and of course Anna. They had become his family. His new family.

“We can,” he said softly. “I love you, Anna. Thank you for being here.”

It felt so good to hear him say it. While he was out there was a dark place inside of her that whispered she may never hear him say it again. It made her smile to shut up that tiny, black voice. “I love you, too.” She dipped her head down to kiss him again, taking her time with it this time. Making up for kisses lost to his coma.

Anna’s kiss was soft and sweet. Wash smiled against her lips. He shifted a little under her. The morphine was keeping him from being in too much pain, but he was still sporting a set of broken ribs. He wanted to keep holding her, but his torso was protesting the jostling and movement. He shifted again, trying to push himself up more so he could hold her a bit better.

The shifting was a sign. Anna pulled back, smiling softly and letting her gaze flick from his lips back up to his eyes. “Am I hurting you?” She asked, then shook her head suddenly. “Nevermind, don’t answer that. I’ll move.” There were Nintendos in her bag, after all. And she had to climb off his bed to get them. “We have some weeding to do.”

Wash didn’t want Anna to think she was hurting him. She may have come at him a bit too hard, but it wasn’t her fault. Wash wanted to hold her every bit as much as she wanted to hold him. There really wasn’t enough room on the hospital bed for the two of them, but Wash didn’t really care. Even if he hadn’t been high on morphine, he wouldn’t have cared. He reluctantly let her go so she could slide off the bed and go to her bag.

“You brought the DS’s?” He asked. He and Anna always played these kinds of games together. As a gamer, Wash usually favored puzzle games or long campaigns, but playing Pokemon Go or Animal Crossing with Anna was always fun. Sometimes the two of them would go for walks in the evenings by Anna’s house or Wash’s apartment just to see what kind of pokemon they could catch and then excitedly comparing what they had found. Wash was looking forward to being able to do that again. “You’re the best girlfriend ever,” he grinned at her.

Anna was quick to grab her bag and then come back over to the bed. She could fit her little backside between his thigh and the edge. Even if there wasn’t enough room for her to lay beside him, she could still make room to be near. Very close. She wanted to stay as close as possible without hurting him. So she brought the bag up to the bed and practically snorted. “Of course I brought the DS’s. I said I would, didn’t I?” And she gave him her most mischievous grin as she tossed a bag of Swedish Fish into his lap.

“Swedish Fish!” Wash exclaimed happily, his voice pitching up in that signature way of his. For a moment the DS’s were forgotten and Wash wasted no time in opening the bag and popped a couple of the red fish shaped candies into his mouth. Eating a bunch of sweets was probably not such a good idea since his body was still getting used to eating solid foods, but dammit, he hadn’t had Swedish Fish in ages.

“’Ave ya ever wondered why they’re called Swedish Fish?” He asked around a mouthful as he offered the bag to Anna (because obviously she needed to eat some too). “I always wondered that. Like…are they from Sweden?” He set the bag down and placed one of the fish on the palm of his hand to examine.

Anna was a princess of candy. She pretty much always had some around. Either in her purse, or in a drawer, on a shelf… etc. And who didn’t love Swedish Fish? She grinned, though, as she watched him enjoy the candy, pulling a couple of other things out of the bag. He was going to need his chargers. And some books. And snacks. (Contraband?) She’d brought him a bunch of things, hoping that he would be entertained until they let him out of here.

“I don’t know. Maybe? I mean… not all fish are from Sweden.” She paused. “But maybe it’s like how french fries aren’t French, and stuff. You know?”

“Mmm,” Wash nodded thoughtfully as he chewed on his mouthful of Swedish Fish. “Prolly. Makes sense.” He watched her take out chargers for the DS, a couple of books and snacks. The doctors and nurses would probably have a few things to say about him eating sweets so soon after waking up. His stomach hadn’t had solid food for a few weeks and so far his meals had been pretty mild and bland. A banana, a piece of toast, a little bit of rice. Pretty boring stuff, so the snacks may as well have been gourmet food.

Wash grinned at Anna. “Thank you,” he said.

Anna finally slowed down with the unpacking, and turned to look over at him. That grin. She’d missed that grin so much. A wave of emotion welled up inside her, and she felt her chin tremble for a moment. But she swallowed it back down. The relief, the love, the stress of the last couple of weeks were catching up with her. Hitting her hard. She scooted up close on his bedside again and reached for his hand. “Anytime. Really.”

The expressions on Anna’s face were always like open books. Wash caught that slight tremble of her chin and could feel the wave of emotions coming off of her. He set aside the bag of Swedish Fish and the DS. He reached for her and pulled her to him again, wrapping his arms around her shoulders and resting his head against hers again. There were a lot of emotions swirling around inside of him as well, dulled only slightly by the pain killers in his I.V. Candy and Animal Crossing could wait. All he wanted at that moment was to hold her.
