Celaena loved treating her friends and treating Ray to some high quality dining at the Ritz seemed like the perfect combination of that and Rey’s love of food. After being shown to their table by the waiter, Celaena looked out of the window and took off her big sun hat and glasses. “Wow, what a view! What do you think?” she looked back at Rey with a big grin.
Rey’s eyes were wide the whole time they were led to the table, and even after sitting down, she still looked around in surprise. “I feel a little under dressed. You weren’t joking about this.” She tucked some hair behind her ears. “I...I’m almost afraid to order.”
“You look gorgeous, don't worry about a thing,” Celaena reassured her confidently, smiling happily at her friend. “You can order anything you want from the menu, it's my treat for you being an awesome friend,” she told her, holding out one of the menus which were stood in the middle of the table.
“Small nations have gone bankrupt for less,” Rey said. She picked up the menu and stared at it. “....assuming I can figure out what… oh I know! I’ll have the prime rib!”
She knew what a prime rib was, and she knew she liked it. Plus, the portion size looked huge. “With a baked potato. You can’t have a steak without a baked potato.”
Celaena couldn't help but chuckle at her friend. “Small nations didn't have my dad running them, he's very good with money, something I'm still working on,” she winked at her friend. “Steak is always a great option! Very tempting…” she agreed, looking down at the menu herself. “I might join you with that if I'm honest,” she nodded. “And what about dessert?” she asked happily, glad Rey was starting to enjoy herself a little.
Rey sometimes forgot that Cel came from money. In fact, she always forgot, which was probably a testament to Cel being a good person. Or Rey just not really caring about it. “Chocolate. I don’t care what kind, but I desperately need chocolate.”
“We can certainly do chocolate,” Celaena chuckled as the waiter came over, took their order and left with their menus. “So come on, tell me all the juicy gossip about you and Finn,” she grinned, and sat forward in her seat, moving the wine glasses out of the way so there was a clear line of sight.
“There’s… okay.” Rey ducked her head. She’d been hoping to avoid that conversation. “He’s a sweet heart. He took me to Nascar for Valentine’s Day! It was really exciting, there were crashes!”
That, at least, was easier to talk about than emotions. And her emotions about Finn were so strong they scared her.
Celaena frowned and tilted her head to try and look into Rey’s eyes as she spoke. “Hey, you ok? Is he...treating ok?” she asked, wondering why Rey was being somewhat evasive.
“What? Yes! He’s treating me wonderfully!” Rey rubbed the back of her head. “Maybe a little too much, if i’m honest. I think he’s worried he’ll hurt me or scare me off. I just wish he would…” She cut herself off, turning bright pink. “I’m no good at this kind of thing, and I don’t know how to talk about it. It’s embarrassing.”
“Hey, we're best friends right? You know you can talk about this sort of stuff with me,” Celaena reassured, reaching a hand over to takes Rey’s in her own. “You don't need to be embarrassed or anything, I'm not going to judge you if you tell me that you want to have sex with him,” she smiled gently. They'd already had a talk about intimacy and she wanted Rey to know that she could always come to Celaena if she needed to talk.
“Is that what they call it?” Rey commented, rolling her eyes. She kept her voice low, and worried her fingers on the edge of the table. She lowered her voice even further. “How do I tell him I want me to, you know. Shove me against the wall? Or should I take charge?” She kind of liked both ideas.
That she liked the idea at all gave her stomach butterflies.
“Oh wow, ok,” Celaena’s eyebrows shot up in response, not expecting Rey to come out with something quite so direct. “Ok, well it sounds like you want to be taking this relationship a bit faster than you have been,” she quirked a little smile.
“If he’s being hesitant to...initiate, then you may have to take the reins a bit and…show him exactly what you want from him. Sweet guys, like Finn sounds to be, sometimes need a bit of...direction. Y’know, to let them know that it’s ok to push you up against the wall and ravish you,” she grinned slowly, a wicked grin. She had to admit that talking about this sort of thing made her a bit hot too. She really needed to arrange to see Damian soon.
“Now you’re blushing a little,” Rey pointed out. But she squared her shoulders and decided that if she wanted to do something, she might as well do it. It wasn’t like there was anything wrong with it. As long as she didn’t destroy their friendship. It meant too much to her. “What about you, how is your love life?”
“Well,” Celaena shrugged and ducked her chin, looking up at Rey from under her lashes as she fiddled with her fork. “I can’t say that I don’t like Damian, y’know, taking charge from time to time,” she smiled at her friend naughtily before giggling.
“We’re ok though, I guess,” Celaena shrugged with a smile. “It’s hard to get as much time together as I’d like,” she admitted. Especially as she was having more Dreams. When she would wake up in a cold sweat after one, she would love to have him there beside her to talk about it, comfort her and remind her it was ok to go back to sleep. She was a strong independant woman but...even she wanted to curl up next to someone she loved.
That made Rey blush again, and she had minor regrets, but she had asked. “Have you both been busy? Don’t couples move in quickly a lot?” Weren’t there jokes about Uhauls or was she misremembering something she’d once read.
“Move in?!” Celaena squeaked, almost snorting the water she’d been sipping. Grabbing a napkin from the table, she dabbed at her mouth to dry any spilt water. “I uh...I hadn’t even really thought about that to be honest…” she trailed off. She loved living in her parent’s house. After all, she had her own gym and dance room with a sprung floor. And Mr Thomas too.
But living with Damian...well, she’d love that too. “I uh...I hadn’t given it much thought,” she admitted with a shy smile.
Rey laughed a little too loudly at Cel’s reaction, and ducked her head when people looked at her. She flushed, and responded in a normal tone of voice. “So it’s not that easy? Just move into whoever has the bigger flat? Or house.” If she moved in with Finn it would probably have to be his place. It was bigger, but there wouldn’t be much room for her… mechanical mess.
Which was a point against moving in with Finn, honestly.
“Well, I suppose it could be,” Celaena shrugged. “It’s a big step, y’know? I...I don’t know...I guess I was waiting on him asking or something,” she considered briefly. She resolved to ask him next to she saw him. “What about you and Finn? Do you think you’re in it for the long run?”
“Maybe you need to ask him yourself,” Rey said. “A bit like I should make any moves if I want things to happen.” After all, could they really rely on their men to get anywhere at all without them? Hardly. “I like to think so. We’d… need a larger place.”
“Is that so you have more places to...take the initiative?” Celaena winked at her friend and giggled behind her glass as the waiter arrived with their first course.
“Shush you.” But Rey? Didn’t deny it.
