Anna was a complete and total mess. She’d spent every waking moment she could in the hospital, except when she was in class. And she was running out of food in the fridge and clean laundry. But she couldn’t be home at the moment. Lexi was at work, and Stefan was off with the dog (and Bubbles, maybe) so Anna felt incredibly alone. More alone than she should have felt. She had wonderful friends, an amazing sister, and yet… it must have been hanging around the hospital too much. It made her feel icky. Sad. Lonely.
She headed to Myrcella’s place and knocked on the door, holding a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Hopefully her friend wouldn’t mind a surprise visit.
Myrcella had just finished with a client about an hour ago and had been tidying the treatment room when someone called, she wasn’t expecting someone. She’d kept the afternoon clear for paperwork so when she opened the door she was surprised to see Anna but immediately welcomed her inside. Giving her friend a hug, “How are you doing?” she asked, worried.
“Hey.” Anna wrapped her arm around Myrcella for a tight hug. Her eyes were still red and puffy from crying, and her body felt frail and trembly. But she was still Anna. So her smile was there, her eyes twinkled, even though she was overwhelmed and stressed. “I’m okay. I’m still here. I’ve got ice cream?” She held up the pint.
Myrcella pressed a kiss to the side of Anna’s head and gave her a squeeze, “Ice cream is one of the best things to help” she said to her friend, “And it goes perfectly with a movie, if you’d like?” she offered, figuring it might help take Anna’s mind off things.
Anna nodded. “Yeah, a movie sounds great.” She gave her friend a tired smile, and then turned to follow Myrcella into the kitchen. “Something funny, maybe? To keep spirits light and all.” The ice cream was chocolate and peanut butter, and Anna thought it sounded delicious.
“Definitely” Myrcella agreed, “We have a lot of comedies to chose from, laughter is the best medicine so they say. That and ice cream” she said, grabbing bowls and spoons along with a couple of bottles of water from the fridge.
Anna accepted half the load so Myrcella wouldn't have to carry it all, then headed to the sofa to settle in. “I'm not keeping you from anything important, am I?” she asked, then opened the Ice cream.
“Actually you’re saving me from a boring afternoon of paperwork so please don’t worry” Myrcella said, tugging the table closer to them so they could settle everything they needed within arms reach. Their television was set up with a hard drive and an array of movies on it, Myrcella rather loved it.
Anna’s grin spread a little at that. A genuine smile stretching her lips for the first time since she arrived. “You’re welcome, then?” She asked, teasing a little. Then she dug the spoon into the ice cream. “Something older, maybe. Not too old? Maybe Chris Farley?”
Myrcella looked a little sheepish then, “I’m not sure who that is” she admitted, she watched films but actors names never really meant much to her unless they were the really famous ones of course. And sometimes she found that American famous wasn’t always the same as British famous, that had tripped her up a few times before.
Anna gave a playful gasp. “You don’t know Chris Farley? Tommy Boy? We should watch Tommy Boy. That movie is hilarious.” Hey, Myrcella had done a great job of distracting Anna from her troubles. “Unless you had something else in mind?”
“I have never heard of that so let’s watch that” Myrcella said, searching for the film as Anna suggested it, happy when she found it on the hard drive. Maybe Jeremy had seen it before, she mused. “So do I need to know anything other than it being a comedy?” she asked, glad to have distracted her friend.
Anna shook her head. “Nope, it’s just a stupid comedy. I think it’s pretty self explanatory.” Ice cream, a good friend, and Tommy Boy? Sounded like a really good afternoon. She found herself thinking about Wash again, worrying about when he was going to wake up, or if he was going to wake up at all… but she let herself get lost in the movie.
By they got to the part with the fake bees in the car, Anna’s mind was completely off her troubles.
The film was certainly different and Myrcella found herself chuckling, she didn’t think she’d ever have the love for it that Anna did but it was enjoyable.
Glancing at her friend she was pleased to see her laughing and looking lighter than she had when she arrived.
The movie was drawing to a close, and Anna actually did feel a bit better. She wasn’t quite as worried, was distracted from her troubles. Then she remembered what she needed distracting from, and grew a little more somber. “Thanks for watching this one with me. Did you like it?”
“You’re welcome. Thank you for introducing me to a new movie. It was good, it was funny” Myrcella said with a smile, obviously humour was a wide and varied thing and everybody found different things amusing but it had been good and Myrcella was glad she had watched it.
“Good.” Anna said and gave her friend a smile. “Let’s go for one more.” And she was very thankful she had such a good friend in Myrcella.
