Who: Usagi and Kenzi!
What: Hanging out and buying adorable things!
When: The 22nd!
Where: Some awesome shop for nerds and geeks!
Rating/Warnings: Just a little language on Kenzi's part?
Status: Complete!
Nope, today was not about shopping for fishnets and corsets, nor was it about the latest craze of a contour kit with a matching brush set. Kenzi didn’t think Usagi would be into that kind of thing anyway but hey, maybe with a little time she could glam up the kid? Legends say that people tend to redefine themselves out of high school anyway, but she didn’t have the luxury to know if that was true or not - at that age she’d been all about that thug life.
Or whatever. It was a lot of con artistry and skimming credit card numbers.
But she did know a good place for comics and things related of the sort - it was a vibrant shop with pop art decor, and the goods catered towards pop culture and all things related. Collectable statues, board games, action figures, graphic novels, books, regular comics, video games. The variety was decent. Something for everyone.
Her outfit was fabulous, as always - a high-waisted red skirt, a cropped leather jacket, and her shoes and accessories all had silver spikes and buckles. A gothic lolita porcupine in a black straight jacket, basically. “Nerd stuff gaaaaaalore - and toys, if you’re into that sort of thing. I mean, they have Pokemon badges on display.”
Usagi, however, wore a simple flower-patterned sundress, much more quaint and opposite of Kenzi’s crazy getup, but Usagi liked what Kenzi wore anyway. It fit her, she thought. “Wow,” Usagi squeaked in surprise. The whole place was her thing, and she immediately began to stare at everything, mumbling prices to herself. “Thank you, Kenzi!” She cried, turning to look at the other girl. “I really like this!”
“Totes better than studying, yeah?” Kenzi winked, gravitating to the Funko figures - there was an impressive tower of them on display, and she picked one of Dogmeat from Fallout. D’awww, cute and loyal companion pupper. The best. “I needed fresh air anyway. My boyfriend’s a hermit, and I’m trying to have space away from mommy-dearest.”
Gah. Family, man. Sometimes it was easy to forget the Russian half when she was so involved with the Irish half.
Usagi ooh’d and aaw’d at the figures, totally taken by their large heads. She looked up to Kenzi. “You and your family aren’t close?”
“That’s a whole can of worms, toots,” Kenzi sighed, a whoosh of hair blowing those pitch-black bangs from her eyes. “Like - well, I was born in Canada, had a fallout with my mumsy about her choice in boy-toys and went runaway teen? I met my boyfriend on the internet once I got my shit together, and let’s just say he’s super good at computer stuff.” As in hacking. Government kind of stuff. International stuff. The kind of stuff that would have several agencies on his cutie-patootie butt, gunning for his arrest. “He tried to help me find my dad, and in that I actually found my brother. Half, anyway. Him and I are super close, you’d think we were raised together. That brought me to Amurrica but with all the political crap going on it makes me wonder if we’re all better off moving elsewhere.”
How has Orange Clownface not been impeached yet? Or at the very least assassinated. Lord, any day now, puh-leaaaaase. “But anyway, mom and a cousin tracked me down and now she’s groveling for forgiveness so we’ll see how that plays out.”
Usagi looked surprised, her eyes wide. She hadn’t expected any of that! “You’ve had a really hard time,” she frowned sadly, reaching over to hug Kenzi, if the other allowed it. “I’m sorry. But I’m glad we got to meet.”
Uhhhh?? “No need for the pity, honeybuns,” Kenzi winced but allowed the hugging to happen - albeit awkwardly. Really, she was fine - maybe a little quirky and with high suspicions of other people (though who didn’t have these qualities nowadays, for realsies), but she was surprisingly well-adjusted. And happy. “I mean, I have diamond-encrusted stilettos so my life really ain’t that hard.” Best ‘glad you didn’t die from your face bleeding’ gift ever.
Anyway, no more of that crap from her end. The focus was pivoted to Usagi. “But, you know, even if I think schooling’s for the birds you should listen to your mom about your grades sometimes.” Her smile was impish. “You could be an astronaut or something.”
Maybe she was being a little generous there, but.
Usagi’s eyes went wide like saucers. “Astronaut?! No way… That’s way too much work!” She threw her arms in the air, laughing giddily. “I’m going to set up a couple of days to get help from the others on the Net, a nice girl named Blossom will help with my English, and there’s two people offering math help! I don’t want to just… jump into college right away though,” she sighed.
“When I turn eighteen, I want to relax for the summer a bit. I -will- go to the community college and try out the classes there, but… It’s stupid, isn’t it?” She sighed again. “I don’t know what else to do except… except how badly I want to get married.” A flash before her eyes made her stiffen. Endymion. She could see his smile. She could feel… feel his warm hands on hers. Their eyes closed and lips met, and Usagi quickly touched her mouth with shaky fingers.
“Do college only if you want to be in debt for your rest of your life here,” Kenzi preached, wagging her finger because fuuuuuuuuuuck the America’s educational system. In the butt. With a heated, spiked dildo. “There’s trade school, I guess, and hey, if you wanna do the whole married thing and get a sugar daddy...”
Well, no. She should probably advise that route. Kenzi went down that path herself and it ended badly, but with that starry look Usagi had all of a sudden?
Sounded like the chick wanted the whole luuuuurve part. And maybe had a case of Parkinson’s disease. “Heyyyyy, girly, you okay??”
Usagi shook the memories away, looking to Kenzi. “Sorry… You know that whole dream thing? It’s just been coming to mind a lot.” She rubbed her arms, thinking. “I’m relieved they aren’t so bad. Some people have had a really hard time with them!”
Kenzi’s cringe was meant to be sympathetic. “Oh, dude, yeah, sorry - they can be a real bitch sometimes, those things.” Like, oh, cursing her brother in a way that forced him to kill himself, and giving her boyfriend a murder chip in the brain, and turning her best friend into a succubus.
“So what’d you dream about, sugar tits? Anything bad?”
Usagi blushed at the name, laughing as she turned back to the Funko figures. “I was a princess on the moon, and I loved a prince on Earth, and it did the whole Romeo and Juliet thing. My gut says it’s going to end the same, but who knows?” She shrugged, reaching over to take one and look it over. The uglier they were, the cuter. Seriously. Adorable. “And I keep thinking I’m seeing a black cat everywhere, but when I blink, it’s not there. So more of these dreams just… showing up. Or what I think should show up? I keep having them recur, so!” She laughed, though, smiling again, wide and happy. “Prince Endymion. I don’t mind seeing him every night.”
“That’s…” Kenzi paused, blinking several times. “That’s pretty romantic - and reminds me of mythology? Didn’t like, the moon princess and earth dude have a thing in Roman myths?” It sounded familiar, anyway, but the whole Romeo and Juliet thing… “So what happened? Did you two commit suicide? People usually don’t see themselves die in the dreams this early.”
Usagi shook her head. “I’m not sure yet, I haven’t had anything new. Just us being happy as I kept sneaking away from the moon. Earth people didn’t like the moon people just because we lived longer.” She rubbed her forehead. “Sometimes I think the moon mark is going to show up. Imagine my mom freaking out!”
Had to be rough, going through this sort of thing at that age - Kenzi knew a couple young ones got dealt the card but damn, it’ll be hard to hide some things from the parental unit if things changed. “Moon mark? Like a tattoo, birth mark??”
Hrmmmm, well, her soon-to-be sis-in-law had some mojo in store for hiding stuff people weren’t supposed to see. Depending how bad it was.
“Like a birthmark,” Usagi nodded. “Shaped like a crescent moon, but… sideways.” She makes the ‘u’ shape with a finger in the air. “I hope I don’t get it. I also hope my hair doesn’t get as long either! The Princess me had it flowing to the ground. And in some memories, it looked silver, but in others it was gold. Funny how it works!”
“News flash, babycakes - it’s totes possible you’ll get all those changes,” she told the girl, clapping her hand over her shoulder. “My bestie became a succubus because that’s what she dreamt of being. I’m just human, so I don’t know what it’s like to get those kinds of changes, but, uh. Yeah. My sister-in-law’s like a witch or something, she can help you if you ever need to hide some stuff. You know. If it helps keep your parents in the dark.”
Usagi grabbed her own face, gasping. “I will?! Oh boy… I mean, I didn’t look bad but as long as it holds back until after I move out… So my mom and dad don’t have heart attacks!”
Awww. Pat-pat. Kenzi tried not to snicker at her reaction - the girl was sweet, and a little ditzy, and really no bad bone in her body. That was a rarity. “You can say you’re trying out new things? College phase,” she suggested. “Are you going to go on a hunt for your soon-to-be-husband soon? The network’s a good place to meet people.”
That’s like...where most people she knew hooked up. Common interests, bonding over the sadistic OC and drinking over it. Mundane relationships with other people outside their bubble of knowledge didn’t cut it much anymore.
“College phase would work,” Usagi remarked, smiling. “Mom tries to hide it, but she dyed her hair pink in college! Daddy showed me the pictures,” she nodded, laughing. Reaching over to grab a cute Funko black cat figure and lifted it up to show Kenzi. “I’m getting this! It looks like the cute black cat from my dreams that can talk!”
Awwww. “Now I have to get an animal one,” Kenzi pouted, and she went to select Dogmeat again from the selection. “For no other reason aside that he’s the best video game companion ever - but oh! Hey! If you get your own place you can totes get a black cat, or something. I always hear they’re the last ones to get adopted because people are superstitious losers.”
“What?! How could anyone not want to adopt something so cuuute?!” Usagi snuggled the box. “Hey! Want to go pay for these and get something to eat at that new cafe?! I hear it’s suuuper pink and flowery,” she was grinning mischievously at Kenzi, “but the drinks are really good!”
It’s true. People were dicks. And Usagi seemed to have a Salem (Sabrina the Teenage Witch anyone) in her dreams. Ugh, so jelly. Kenzi wanted a talking pet, damnit. “Assholes, honey, assholes,” she tsked and grabbed her wallet - Corpse Bride inspired, of course - for the funds to get them their collectibles. “But that’s good with me! I could go for some noms and stick out like a sore thumb.”
Her tastes in hair, clothes, shoes. They were a bit much to some people, but if she had given a damn about that then she would have changed her fashion style a long time ago. See all the fucks she gave, peeps? They absolutely did not exist.
