WHO: Vanessa and Dorian
WHAT: A day out
WHEN: Early April
WHERE: Magic Guild
WARNINGS: Low/None
STATUS: Closed/Completed Gdoc
Vanessa was looking forward to showing Dorian the Guild, it was a wonderful place and had a calming influence. There were usually a few people floating around, occasionally quite literally, and they had amassed a number of interesting books and scrolls on various magical topics.
She hadn’t really thought much would come of it when she first ‘joined’ but Zatanna had proved to be the perfect person to set it up and it was a thriving little community in it’s own right now and one Vanessa wished Dorian to see.
Dorian was glad that Vanessa had a place that she could go to practice her abilities as well as other people that she could share those abilities with. In the dreams she was alone with her abilities and she had to figure out how to handle them on her own and they both knew how well that had worked out. So he was looking forward to seeing the Guild and possibly meeting a few of the other magic users that populated Orange County.
“It feels like I’m showing you Hogwarts or something” Vanessa said, a smirk on her lips as she and Dorian walked hand in hand towards the guild, “I think you’ll like it a lot though, it has a nice atmosphere and there’s usually a few people milling around. There’s such a wide array of abilities, I had no idea just how many until I started meeting others” The net only scratched the surface it seemed.
Dorian chuckled as he took it all in, “Are there others here like you?” He wondered what it would be like if there were others with the same abilities as Vanessa. If they would be able to help each other or if their abilities would be too different as a result of them having different origins.
“Some, though there are subtle differences. There’s a woman who can read tea leaves better than cards which is something I’d like to try soon. There are also a couple who can communicate with the dead which is an aspect of my own abilities I am less inclined to pursue” she smiled a little, it seemed like it would be pushing her luck a little too much to play around with those forces.
“No, necromancy probably isn’t something you want to delve into.” Dorian didn’t see something like that ending well, considering how things had worked out while Vanessa had been possessed in the dreams. “Tell me, exactly how is reading tea leaves different than tarot cards?” Dorian didn’t really know much about how these things worked, even after all this time with Vanessa and he hadn’t really ever asked before despite having her do a card reading for him before.
“Definitely not, it’s far too risky” Vanessa agreed, she didn’t want to risk possession anytime soon. After all that had been part of the reason for her dream self leaving Dorian and she had no plans to do such a thing here. “The cards can be much more specific, while tea reading much more open to interpretation or at least that’s my view of it, I’m sure others may disagree. But I suppose you could also say that the tea is more personal since the person you are reading is the one drinking it. I think I’m always going to use the cards but it might be nice to see how on point my reading is when using the tea”
Dorian nodded as Vanessa explained the differences, “That makes sense. Perhaps I should have my tea leaves read and we can see if it lines up with my card reading.” It would be interesting to see if there were any differences between the two for him, “So, what do you usually do when you come here?” He knew that she went there to learn and practice, but he didn’t know all the details.
“Oh that’s a good idea” she nodded, it would definitely be interesting to see if there were any differences. Especially when it came to Dorian since she was so close to him perhaps she picked up more or less because of that. “Mostly I either use the library to research more about the abilities I’ve gained or see if anybody around wants a reading. I’m practicing with different card sets”
While Dorian had had his cards read before and had watched Vanessa reading others’ cards, he didn’t know too much about them to be honest, “Are there differences between sets?” He enjoyed hearing about the various things Vanessa was able to do with her abilities now that she was embracing them, “Do you think any of these books have anything in them about immortality?” He was almost certain that, like in the dreams, he was already immortal as a result of his portrait, not that he understood how it worked.
Vanessa nodded, “They each have their own little quirks, some cards resonate with you more than others and therefore give better readings. It’s almost like they have their own little personalities” she told him. Dorian’s immortality was something she’d thought about but tried not to dwell on, she’d spoken briefly with Tessa about it since the young woman had discovered she was immortal in her own dreams. “There may be, I think one or two others may have looked into it. We could take a look” she suggested softly. It made sense that since the painting was here that Dorian’s immortality came with it, he would remain as he was even while she aged, it was a melancholy thought.
Dorian didn’t like to think about the fact that, if he were immortal, someday he would lose Vanessa. He knew that it was an eventuality, but not one that would happen for a very long time so dwelling on it wasn’t going to do them any good. “It would be interesting to see what the books have to say on the matter.”
It definitely wasn’t something Vanessa was dwelling on either, she wanted to cherish all the time she had with Dorian without those dark thoughts invading. “Then we’ll have a look, even if there isn’t at the moment new material is arriving almost constantly here” she added, fingers tightening on his hand briefly though whether it was to reassure him or her she couldn’t say.
