Sarah didn’t know much other than Josh had received an offer for a school placement which had been an amazing opportunity and one that he had accepted. It left her brother alone however and she wasn’t sure if they had talked about trying the long distance thing or not. So after dropping Kira off at John’s she brought home pizza and cocktails and decided they would have a brother/sister night.
Entering the house she found him in the living room and dropped the boxes on the table and placed the bag holding the drinks next to it, “You got my message about me bringing home dinner right?” she asked as she unpacked everything.
Felix couldn’t believe how much had changed in a little under a month. Josh had been in the process of moving in, which Felix had asked him if he’d wanted to do around Valentine’s Day, when an opportunity had suddenly come up with school that Felix didn’t think Josh should turn down. Yes, Felix loved Josh, but Josh was still young and Felix hadn’t wanted to hold him back, so he had insisted that Josh take the opportunity and now Felix found himself single, because he hadn’t wanted to restrict Josh with a long distance relationship that neither of them would have been sure would work.
He’d decided to take a few days off from work, since they weren’t as busy as they had been a few weeks earlier and had gotten Sarah’s text about dinner so he nodded in response to her question as he looked up at her, “Yeah, I got it. What’d you get?”
“I got the biggest pizza I could with four different topping sections and cheaty cocktails in cans” she told him with a smile, dropping down next to him after setting everything out. “You doing okay?” she asked him, nudging his shoulder with her own. She loved Felix a lot, obviously since she’d moved halfway around the world to be closer to him and just wanted to remind him she was here if he needed to talk. She knew he already knew that but it was just nice to give him that little reminder.
Felix smiled and leaned into Sarah a little bit once she’d sat down, “If I said I was fine, would you believe me?” He knew that she wouldn’t, because if there was anyone who knew when he was lying, it was Sarah. They were too close to be able to lie to one another.
“Nope” Sarah said, letting her head fall to the side of top of his, “I’d sit on you until you told me the truth. But don’t make me do that, we have pizza to eat. So, how are you actually doing?” she asked.
Felix knew that Sarah was telling the truth too. “Not great.” He sighed and wrapped then arm around Sarah’s shoulders and giving her a squeeze, “But I’ll be alright. Not the first time I’ve broken up with a guy.” But it was the first time he’d broken up with someone he’d been in love with. He knew it was going to take a while to get over it, but he didn’t want to dwell on it too much.
“This is different though, I mean neither of us have fallen this hard before” Sarah said as she wrapped one of her arms around his waist to give him a cuddle, “But if I can do anything to help you just say the word okay? You know I’m here for you Fe”
“I know. And I’m glad you’re here, Sarah. I don’t know how I’d get through this alone.” He probably would have spent most of his time at a bar, drinking away his sorrows. Drinking with Sarah was much healthier on his liver and having her for support was for than he could ask for, “I suppose this is what I get for falling for a bloody college student.” Not that he regretted anything about the last year with Josh.
“I’d never let you go through anything alone” Sarah promised, they’d been a team for a long time and they always would be, no matter what. Felix was one of the most important people in her life and she would do everything she could to help him. “Damn schooling” she agreed though she knew Felix wouldn’t change what he’d had with Josh despite the hurt now.
Felix sighed and reached towards the table to grab a drink and took a swig after opening the bottle, “This is good. This is the other reason I keep you around.” He smirked and took another swig before sitting back against the back of the couch, “And who knows, maybe when he comes back we’ll pick up where we left off.”
“Because I pick the good alcohol and pizza?” Sarah teased him grabbing one herself as they sat together, “Who knows” she echoed, hoping her brother wouldn’t miss any new chances that came his way because of that hope. As nice as it would be to think it would happen reality dictated it probably wouldn’t.
