Who: Elijah, Kol, Rebekah and Mareena (NPC)
What: Comforting their brother after the death of his wife
When: BACKDATED to early January
Where: Kol's condo
Rebekah was currently laying on the living room couch with her niece fast asleep on her chest. Mareena had been fussy this afternoon and wanting Kol to at least try to get some rest, she had offered to take care of the infant for a while. She wanted to do everything she could to help her brother, but she felt helpless.
Her heart broke for Kol. He and Mary Alice were a perfect couple who were finally supposed to get their little miracle. It wasn't fair. Her brother didn't deserve this. He deserved his perfect little family, his happiness.
Letting out a sad sigh, the blonde nuzzled the tiny head lovingly. Mareena was the one ray of light in the darkness. She just hoped it was enough to keep Kol linked to his humanity.
Try as he might, Kol could not sleep. His bed felt so empty without his wife there. His mind screaming all the things he could have, should have done. Given her vampire blood before labor...just in case. Just...anything. Now, his wife was dead and he was on his own to raise their beautiful baby girl.
Well, no, that wasn’t quite true. He wasn’t on his own. He had Rebekah and Elijah. He had Damon and Enzo. He was sure that if he really needed them, I mean really, truly needed them, he could call his other siblings and they would come. Henrik was starting college, and Klaus, Finn and Freya were living their lives and had their careers, but all had expressed condolences and offers of help. But he didn’t need it. Not yet.
What he did need, however, was his parents to just leave them alone. Mother meant well, but their father...now...NOW he wanted to help Kol?! Now Kol had his sympathy?! Fuck that. Mikael had hated Kol almost as much as he hated Niklaus. Kol didn’t want his “sympathy”. If Kol was a petty man, he’d deny his parents access to Mareena, period end of story.
Walking out into the living room, he smiled weakly down at his sister.
“Thanks for your helps, Beks…” he murmured, not able to meet her gaze. He didn’t want her to see the red, bloodshot eyes from crying.
Elijah wasn’t exactly the best at sleeping as it was, but with everything going on with Kol he found that he slept even less than usual. Luckily he was able to make it through the days with a little extra coffee, but it was concerning. He hadn’t yet dreamt anything from their other lives, but he understood it was particularly interesting. With two vampire siblings, he could only imagine that he had a limited time before he, too, joined them. Especially considering the fact that he was one in the dreams. It could have been a little more concerning, but he figured that there were more than enough people around to help him get situated in the beginning.
He had decided at some point to forego waiting to visit his brother. When he got to the door, he tested it to see if he knocked as a measure of politeness before opening the door and walking inside. “I’m sure I brought more than necessary, but I have never been known for not spoiling family, so I assume you’ll forgive me.” It was a greeting...of a sort. He looked over at both of his siblings and then to the baby. She was an absolute darling and Elijah was aware that he’d already been wrapped around her very tiny fingers. “Hello.”
“You don't have to thank me Kol,” she said softly from where she was laying. He looked so broken right now. It killed her to see him like this.
Being careful not to jostle Mareena awake, Rebekah got up and placed the sleeping child in the nearby sleeper. “She's been fed and changed so she should sleep a little while yet.”
She was about to ask him if he had slept at all when she heard the door open and Elijah's voice carrying into the living room. Smiling slightly she shook her head. “This child will be spoiled like a princess between the six of us, I swear.” She said as she moved to kiss her brother lightly on the cheek. “Why don't you keep Kol company and field the phone calls while I take a quick and much needed shower. Mother has been calling almost every hour so you can divert her next.” She added before making her way upstairs.
Kol smiled and hugged his brother. He was beyond grateful for Elijah, other than Nik, Elijah was the one he was closest too, and he was grateful for Elijah taking time out of his busy schedule to come see him and his niece.
“As if you’d allow your niece to be anything less than spoiled, Beks,” he called after his sister, his eyes darkening at the mention of their mother. What could she possibly want?
Elijah shrugged slightly. “We’re very poor at not spoiling, so I guess we should get used to it.” He wasn’t overly concerned about the concept of having a spoiled niece. As long as she didn’t become overly ridiculous as a teenager, but there was little hope for a lack of ridiculous behavior when it came to teenagers, so he guessed it was only to be expected in the end. “I’m only the best at that. I have years of experience.” Probably because he’d made a point to assist his siblings with whatever annoying thing they were dealing with...even if that annoying something was technically their own parents. And keeping his brother company wasn’t really a problem for him either. He’d do anything he could for them.
He returned the hug from Kol, giving him a small smile and managing to keep the concern out of his expression. “Well, it seems we’re alone. Would you like anything to drink? Eat? I’m not sure what Rebekah has taken care of before I got here, but I’m more than happy to do whatever you need.”
