Ever since the attack on the military hospital in Kabul, Evie had been a little occupied gathering intel on ISIS in Afghanistan. Communication with her contacts there could be slow at times, but she was piecing things together. She had a large bulletin board that was being filled with various things. She had some photos of ISIS operatives pinned to it. She had a map of Afghanistan with pins of different colors stuck into it on various places indicating various things that Evie had tucked away in her mind.
She’d just gotten some new information that she had been busily adding to the bulletin board. A plan was starting to formulate, and she had enough information that she would contact Ezio soon and get his opinion on this as well. Sticking another pin into a location on the map, Evie then glanced at the time.
“Oh bloody hell, I’m supposed to meet Yang!” She was running late and wasn’t even dressed for freerunning. Evie rushed into her bedroom and made a quick change of clothes. Comfortable pants, a t-shirt and a hoodie. The hoodie was simply for effect and her Assassin upbringing bleeding over. Once changed, she pulled her phone out and quickly texted an apology to Yang that she was running late, but that she’d be there shortly.
At which point, Evie went over to the window, opened it and climbed out of it. Evie then quickly scaled the building, successfully avoiding windows so no one else would see her as she made her way to the roof. Once up there, she looked around, trying to pick her path to get to where she was supposed to meet Yang. Finding one, she took a breath, then started running, leaping from one roof to another until she was on top of the building next to where she was going to meet Yang. Evie moved over to the edge of the building and looked down to see if she could see Yang, and when she spotted her, she gave a whistle to get her attention.
Yang was early. But then she really wanted to see Evie. Right now, there were only four people in the world she wanted to see most, and Evie was one of them. (her sister was the other and Weiss and Blake were MIA). She was leaning against her bike, arms folded, sunglasses reflecting the sky. She looked up at the whistle and grinned. “Hey! You already started!”
Evie grinned. “Faster than driving!” Which was true. She then scaled down the building she was on rather quickly and deftly. She landed on her feet and strode over to Yang, a grin on her face. “Hope you don’t mind my starting without you. Traveling by rooftop is far quicker.” She was intensely fond of it.
That was….really hot. Yang flushed, glad she was wearing her sunglasss to at least hide some of her expression from Evie. “Don’t mind at all.” She punched her fists together. “I’m gonna kick your ass, you can have so much of a headstart and it won’t matter.”
Hell, she’d kick her own ass!
“Is that so?” Evie asked, arching an eyebrow curiously. “You may be surprised. An Assassin is nothing to be trifled with.” She said with a wink. Evie had also had some practice here with Ezio, chasing him across rooftops, so this was something she was certainly conditioned in. “So, name the starting point and the ending point.”
Yang looked around, then pointed. “We start there. Then we go to…. There! And no touching the ground. Touch the ground and you automatically lose.”
Of course, one of the jumps was a lot larger than the others. But Yang had ways of crossing it. She wanted to see if Evie did too.
Evie noted the points Yang pointed out and nodded. “Got it. Shouldn’t be a problem.” Evie couldn’t jump long distances, but that’s where her leather gauntlet came into play. Luckily, it had Alexander Graham Bell’s upgrade on it so she could cross longer distances easily. That’s not all that her gauntlet had, it had a hidden blade that would come out with a flick of her wrist. The Assassin’s tool for close in, silent kills.
Yang nodded, then bolted for a wall and clambered up. She reached the rooftop, and waited for Evie to get there. “Three, two, one…”
Her gauntlets fired off and she shot forward, “WHEE!”
As soon as Yang bolted, Evie was right behind her. She scaled the building rather quickly, then took her position as Yang counted down. Though she paused and watched Yang take off, using the propulsion form her gauntlets to move. She shook her head, then took a running start and leapt to the next rooftop.
Evie stayed on the move, being light on her feet as she ran. She spotted the larger jump ahead and she quickly scanned the area. No trees were taller than the buildings they were on. Nothing else other than the building on the other side of the jump. “Well, here goes,” she said to herself as she skidded to a stop at the edge of the rooftop. She lifted her left arm, making a fist, and aimed. The rope launcher shot out and crossed the gap between buildings, the end lodging itself securely in the concrete. Evie fixed the other end of it on her side, then she promptly started crossing the improvised tightrope like she was lighter than air. She moved faster than any normal person would when there was a real chance they could fall to their death. Her arms were out at her sides, providing the counterbalance she needed as she rushed across.
It was all really very Naruto, and for most of it Yang didn’t need to rely on her guantlets, leaping and bouncing and flipping once or twice just to show off. No Grimm to fight, just some fun. She hadn’t felt this free in months, and her arm truely didn’t weigh her down. If nothing else, it made her feel lighter. She came to a stop to watch Evie tightrope across effortlessly, a big grin on her face. “Okay that’s hot.”
Being able to do this without running from the Templars’ henchmen was definitely a perk to this. She cast glances over to Yang now and then, watching the way she leapt and bounced. It was hot and freeing and pushed Evie to show off as well. Once off the tightrope, she quickly gathered the rope up and shoved it in a pocket before she took off running again. This time when she leapt, she tucked and rolled when she landed on the other side, then flipped herself up to her feet without breaking her momentum.
Bounced. LIterally. Yang had a joke about that handy. She took a running leap, firing Ember Celica behind her and rocketing across the gap. She hit the other roof and rolled, then burst after Evie, unwilling to let her gain any more of a lead. Distracted. Why did she always get distracted by girls?
Yang had a lot of bounce up top, that was true! Evie ran and leapt with grace. Her movements were also nearly silent. Her Assassin training had given her the ability to keep her footsteps light, and landing in such a way as to make minimal noise. She only glanced back once to see where Yang was, and she increased her speed.
Okay, she launched herself in the air, her weapons echoing over the rooftops until she’d caught up with Evie. “Watch your step, wouldn’t want you to fall all over me.”
Only it was Yang that slipped. She spiraled out of control, crashing to the ground below in a flash of yellow light. “Ow…”
She sat up and brushed herself off. Well, her ego and her aura were both bruised, but she was pretty sure she was okay. “Okay you win.”
“Yang!” Evie called out when she saw Yang crash to the ground. She skidded to a halt, nearly tumbling over the side of the building herself in the process. She quickly scaled down the side of the building and moved over to Yang. “Are you alright?”
“Nailed it!” Yang called out, lifting her hand and giving Evie a thumbs up before she crawled out of her crater. “Got a little excited there. Not used to this balance. This arm is very strong but very light and I forget it’s there sometimes.”
“I hope that’s a good thing, that you forget it’s there sometimes. It definitely looks strong, and looks very you.” Evie said with a smile, looking over Yang’s arm. It was certainly beautiful. “It does look like you’re adjusting to it very well.”
“Thanks. Once I accepted it was my new normal, everything kind of fell into place.” She gave Evie another thumbs up, then started to climb back up to the roof tops. Her hair was sticking to her neck, but she didn’t mind.
“I’m glad for that.” Evie was glad to hear that. She then scaled her way up to the rooftop. Now she wanted to show off for Yang, now that she could. She looked around for a tall building. “Do you mind if I show off for you?” She spotted a radio tower and decided that’s where she’d jump from. The Leap of Faith was the single most amazing experience. The free fall was something that she certainly got addicted to.
“You can show off for me anytime, baby.” Yang crouched, grinning up at her and wondering what Evie was going to get up to.
Evie grinned at her. “Head for the radio tower.” She pointed it out before she resumed leaping from rooftop to rooftop, weaving her way towards it. While she was thankful the Templars weren’t here in this world, she was thankful for the Assassin abilities. They would definitely help her accomplish things she wanted to accomplish.
“Meet you there!” Yang took a different route, thinking she could beat Evie there. And if she tried, maybe she just might!
This time, Evie wasn’t racing. Her mind was focused on the leap she was going to take. Perhaps she shouldn’t show someone not part of the Brotherhood the leap, but right now she didn’t care. It wasn’t as if there was a council here that would reprimand her for it. She eventually did make it to the radio tower, seeing Yang had beaten her there.
“Now, up to the very top. Though you might have a better view of this from here or on the ground.”
“I'll stay here then.” Yang was curious about what Evie was up to, but she wasn’t afraid or worried. After all, her school’s official initiation involved being launched off of platforms into a forest filled with dangerous killer monsters.
“Enjoy the show,” Evie said with a wink before she turned and climbed up to the top of the tower. Once there, Evie crouched and pulled her hood over her head. She drew in a breath before she took her leap. It was a perfect swan dive, textbook form, as she descended towards the ground. Her body slowly flipped, going from head-first to feet-first. Most people would be worried that there was nothing to brace the impact. Evie, however, simply tucked and rolled.
Normal people would have come out of that having broken something. Evie had nothing but an intense sense of adrenaline. Coming to her feet, she turned and looked up at Yang, hood still over her head and a bright grin on her face.
“What? Holy crap!” Yang’s hands went to her hair as Evie swan dove off the radio tower. There was nothing to land on, and even with Yang’s experience she worried. Evie didn’t have an Aura. At least, not one like a Remnant Aura. But then she simply rolled and Yang laughed. “That was hot!”
Evie definitely didn’t have an aura. She had nothing to protect her from injury save what protection her Assassin clothing gave her. She was no superhero with superpowers, but she did have abilities, and she used those abilities to the best of her ability. “Thanks!” Evie called before she went about rejoining Yang. “What you just saw is what every Assassin must complete in order to complete their initiation into the Brotherhood. It’s probably one of my favorite things among my abilities right now.”
“So how many of them go splat?” Yang asked. “And would that make them a pansassin?” Which had multiple meanings depending on one’s sexuality. She flashed a grin and leaned against a wall casually.
“Far fewer than you may think.” Evie didn’t know any who didn’t come out of it. But that didn’t mean there never were any who met that fate. She laughed, however. “It just might. I’m just happy to not be a pansassin like that.”
“You’re definitely not flat,” Yang said consideringly, rubbing her chin and looking Evie up and down, with an emphasis on up. Evie was round in all the good places, something that Yang had discovered first hand. Well, second hand. Technically.
Evie looked Yang up and down, smirking a bit. “I’m flatter than you,” she countered. Evie’s bust was nothing to sneeze at, but compared to Yang, she might as well be a pancake. But Yang was gorgeous, and she certainly appreciated it.
“Everyone is flatter than me. The Earth is flatter than me.” Yang sounded proud of that. She had her complaints, but she could make fun of herself at the same time. And she knew she was gorgeous. Yang could be a little vain at times.
“It just allows us to bask in your beauty all the better.” Evie said with a smile. If one couldn’t make fun of themselves, then there was little fun in things. Evie took herself seriously, but she at least could make fun of how much of a bookwork or a workaholic she was.
She gave Evie an exaggerated bow and a wink. As a bonus, it gave her a bit of a view down Yang’s shirt, which was mostly the point. She straightened, and came over, touching Evie’s elbow. “I do shine like the sun.”
Of course, Evie couldn’t help herself but to glance down Yang’s shirt. It was a very nice view, after all! “You certainly do. You’re rather golden, if I do say so myself.” She said with a smile, nudging Yang with her elbow.
“I’m shiny and a little soft in places.” Yang leaned into her suddenly. She was certainly feeling soft, a feeling she didn’t have around just anyone. Five people in the world, with Evie being lucky number six. Though she wasn’t that soft around Weiss. (okay she totally was)
“Shiny and soft in all the right ways and places,” Evie said with a flirtatious smile. When Yang leaned into her, Evie slid her arms around her waist. Perhaps it was a bold move, but Evie felt bold at the current moment.
“Those places are all yours.” Smiling, Yang leaned her head down. To kiss her. In public. She liked to fluster the girls she was interested in, as seen with Blake, and now Evie. And Evie got flustered in all the right ways.
Evie flushed as Yang leaned in to kiss her. There was a moment where she was flailing internally, but she accepted the kiss and kissed her back. Though her face was a bit red. Yang definitely had the knack for getting her all flustered.
“You’re blushing.” Yang poked Evie’s cheek. “Badass assassin or bashful schoolgirl? Which is it?” Said the badass fighter schoolgirl so she was allowed to tease that. Yang slipped her arms around Evie, her grin only wider.
“More like I’m English. Stiff upper lip and all of that,” Evie returned with a smirk. “But I can’t help it that I go all bashful when in the presence of a beautiful woman.” She squeezed Yang a bit in her arms. It felt nice to hold someone and be held.
Resting her head and luxurious hair on Evie’s shoulder, Yang closed her eyes. She didn’t often get this level of peace and she was going to enjoy it while she could. With everything life threw at her, that wasn’t going to last forever. It probably wouldn’t last for long. “Bashful is cute.”
Peace certainly had a way of not lasting overly long. But that was how things were. Taking what they could get when they could was the best that could be expected. Evie smiled, daring to gently stroke that luxurious hair Yang had. “Well, at least you think so.”
“Mm. That means it’s true.” Give Yang half a chance and she’s cuddle someone to sleep and/or death. She was almost as bad as a cat. But she lifted her head and caught Evie in another kiss and tried not to think too hard on if that whole assassin thing was crossing over.
“Then certainly I can’t fight it,” she joked. Evie didn’t mind the cuddling. She could be right there in cuddling someone to death if she wanted. Before things with Yang had gotten physical, it had been a while since Evie had last even hugged someone. It was nice having this. She returned the kiss with enthusiasm. She was still riding the adrenaline high, and pair that with a beautiful woman kissing her and she was definitely going to be enthusiastic about things.
“I got an idea,” Yang murmured, her hands sliding under the back of Evie’s shirt. She continued what she was saying by just kissing Evie even harder.
She groaned softly, feeling Yang’s hands on her skin. The metal was cool against it, but she didn’t mind. Evie matched Yang’s kiss, pulling her closer against her. Her hands slid along Yang’s back, pulling her hips closer against her own. “Do you want to go back to my place?” She murmured into her mouth.
“Who said anything about going back to anyone’s place,” Yang said, mischief in her eyes.
Evie’s eyebrows rose, and for a moment her British sensibilities were in control, but she pushed them aside. “Well, if you are so bold, I should simply match you in that. I would not wish to be thought of as cowardly.” She teased.
“First one to the top gets to pick what we do,” Yang said, then suddenly ran for the radio tower.
Oh, a challenge. Evie liked challenges. “You’re on,” she responded before breaking into a run herself. This would definitely be more than a lot of fun.
