Sarah was looking forward to the weekend, she wasn’t working and John was staying over so they could take Kira to the zoo. It was going to be a nice relaxed couple of days and was just what Sarah wanted. Currently they had just had takeaway and were sat snuggled on the sofa with a glass of wine. Kira had gone to bed already and Sarah was just happy to let the film wash over her, she wasn’t actually sure what was going on.
It was sickeningly domestic and not at all what she’d ever really imagined for herself but she was very happy. It was just a shame that poor Felix was feeling the strain with Josh leaving.
John was perfectly content to be sprawled on the sofa with Sarah pressed up against him. Stroking his fingers through her hair gently, he rested his cheek against her hair, occasionally lifting his head to press a kiss against her head. While they were perfectly content, he could tell that something was niggling at Sarah. “Everything ok?” he asked, voice gravelly and low so as not to disturb the peace they'd found for themselves too much.
“Yeah, just worried about Fe” she said, the hand she was resting on his leg absently scratching at a non-existent thread, “He was so excited about Josh moving in and now he’s on his own again. It just doesn’t seem fair” And it wasn’t really. She knew Fe hadn’t wanted to stop his boyfriend from accepting the place at the school but it was so far away and she had hoped Josh would chose Felix instead.
“It’s crap, can’t deny that,” John agreed before taking a sip from his wine glass. “I can’t believe he just left, I thought from how Felix had been talking they were gonna be forever, y’know,” he sighed and pressed another kiss to her head. “Has he spoken to you about it?”
“A little” Sarah said, “I mean I understand the opportunity is great and the school he’s moved to is amazing. It’s just part of me hoped he’d still chose Felix you know? He’s been so happy with Josh. I guess part of me feels bad that I’m so happy when he isn’t”
“Hmm,” John sighed against the top of her head. “It’s pretty crappy for him,” he agreed. “Is there anything we can do? I mean, you know him better than anyone, can we help him somehow?” he offered, his voice gruff and low.
“It’s really crappy” she nodded before shaking her head, “Not really. He’ll talk to me when he needs to. Just try not to tread on eggshells around him, he’d hate that”
“Ok, but hey, it’s not like I’m all that big on guy talk anyway,” John pointed out, trying to inject a bit of humour into the slightly depressing turn their conversation had taken. “Should I text him and ask how he is or anything?”
Sarah laughed, “Guys actually talk?” she teased back with grin at him before she shook her head, “No, nothing out of the ordinary you know?”
“Sure. Sometimes. Briefly,” John grinned, shifting underneath her slightly. “Ok, nothing out of the ordinary. What about you? Are you ok?” he asked, taking another sip of his wine.
“I am perfectly okay” Sarah said, “More than okay actually. I think for the first time in my life I am content and truly happy, and you have to take a lot of the blame for that you know mister”
John chuckled quietly beneath her. “Well, I guess I can only apologise about that, ma'am. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?” he grinned and put his glass down on the side table.
Sarah laughed, “Apology accepted” she said before moving to straddle him, “But there might be something you can do...a few things in fact” she grinned as she kissed him.
John grinned up at her as she moved, his hands sliding up her thighs to rest on her hips when she moved in to kiss him. “Well I'm sure you'll find a way of communicating those things effectively,” he teased, pulling her closer again. Things were definitely good for them right now.
