Magnus was looking forward to their trip to Mauritius ever since he’d brought it up to Alec. The previous Valentine’s Day had been fantastic in Japan, but this year Magnus had thought that it might be nice for all of them to go somewhere together. Of course on Valentine's Day itself, he assume they would all go off and do their own romantic thing and the bungalow was big enough that they wouldn’t be on top of each other, but he thought that they all deserved some time away.
One of the last things on Magnus’ list of things to do before they left was get a manicure and who better to do that with than Isabelle? He loved spending time with his sister-in-law and what better way to that than getting a manicure?
Izzy was super excited to go on holiday with everybody, she was obviously going to enjoy relaxing in the sun and spending time with Simon but also spending some quality time with Alec, Magnus, Jace and Clary would be great too.
Getting a manicure with Magnus was one of the best pre-holiday preparations in Izzy’s eyes, spotting him she grinned and hurried to greet him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, “Hey you” she said.
Magnus smiled upon seeing Izzy and returned her hug, “Hey. How’re you?” He turned and opened the door to the salon and greeted the ladies who he knew well. After moving to Orange County, he’d gone to one or two other salons before finding this one, which in his opinion was the best in the area and had been going to them ever since when he got manicures, which was whenever he didn’t have a shoot and couldn’t have his nails painted.
The girl at the front smiled in return and told them to pick out their colors and Magnus led Izzy to the large selection of bottles, “So, are you ready to go or do you still need to finish packing?” Magnus and Alec still had quite a bit of packing to finish.
“I’m great, I am so ready for this holiday” she told him with a bright smile, “How about you?” she asked him, eternally grateful that he could take them to these amazing places.
“Clary and I have been shopping so I have everything I need but I do still need to pack most of it” she admitted as they looked at the colors on offer.
“We are far from finished packing.” One would think that Magnus could simply use his magic to pack, but he was far too picky about what he brought with him to do it that way. “At least with the ability to portal, we don’t have to worry about baggage fees.” Ever since Magnus had mastered his ability to open portals, it had made traveling that much easier.
He picked up a bottle of polish; a deep red polish that was almost black, “What do you think of this?” He held it up for Isabelle to see.
“You know you are possibly the best person ever to travel with right? We’re all seriously lucky” Izzy told him, because the convenience of everything was amazing and took a lot of the stress out of going away.
“Ooo I like that” she said as he turned the bottle around for her to see, “Subtle but great”
Magnus grinned, “I’m happy to be of service.” While Magnus wasn’t hurting for money, it was nice to save on airfare and not have to go through all the hassle of airports and security and all that, “Without my ability to open portals, we wouldn’t be able to plan a trip like this in only a month.” Those in their group who didn’t have passports would never have been able to get them on such short notice.
Most of the time Magnus stuck with black, but considering this was for Valentine’s Day, he decided to do something different, “Is Simon almost ready to go?”
“Exactly. It’s nice not to have to plan months in advance and then spend hours in a crowded airport. Portal travel is the way to go” Izzy smiled, she certainly valued Magnus’ generosity in taking them all.
“Honestly? I have no idea. He won’t let me pack for him” she pouted a little, not that she didn’t trust him or anything. Izzy just liked to take control whenever possible. She claimed it was part of her charm.
Magnus smirked, “He may not want you to help him, because he might have a surprise for you.” He had a few surprises for Alec already packed and he was sure that, just like the previous year, Alec had some surprises for him, “I’m sure you have some things you wouldn’t want Simon to see just yet.” He waggled his eyebrows suggestively as one of the manicurists called to them when two empty tables opened up.
“Oh! Of course, that’s a good point” Izzy said, she hadn’t thought of that, she’d been so excited for the holiday that it hadn’t occurred to her. “I would pretend not to know what you mean but you’re absolutely right” she said with a wink as they moved towards the tables, she certainly had a surprise or two in store for him.
Had Izzy not been Alec’s sister, Magnus might have told her about the sexy underwear that Alec had worn to surprise Magnus the previous Valentine’s Day, but even he knew which details to keep to himself, “Is poor Simon going to need medical attention after he sees what you have in store for him?” Magnus grinned as he sat down, placing the nail polish bottle on the table.
Izzy was generally more open than her brother but there were some lines even she knew not to cross. Alec wouldn’t be happy with certain details being shared. “Possibly” she smirked, setting down the rich purple color she’d chosen for herself, “But I’m a qualified first aider so we should be alright” she added with a grin.
Magnus chuckled as he held his hands out so that the girl could start removing the polish that was currently on his nails, “It sounds like he’s in very good hands.” He glanced at Izzy and winked. He was sure that whatever Izzy had in store for Simon, he was going to appreciate it. “So, I managed to make a reservation at a restaurant out there for all of us on Sunday night. Figure it’ll be a nice way to start our trip.”
“The best” she said wiggling her fingers at him before giving them over to the girl to work her manicure magic, “That sounds good to me. I’m looking forward to going away all together, it’ll be nice” Izzy hadn’t been on holiday properly with Alec since they were kids and she did miss it.
Sure, they had gone to New York twice, the most recent time for his and Alec’s wedding, but they had yet to go on a real trip all together, which was one of the many reasons Magnus was looking forward to this trip, “Do you know if Jace has started packing?” He could have Alec call Jace to check, but since Izzy lived with him at the Institute it was possible that she knew.
New York for Izzy was home so it definitely didn’t count as going away in her book. This was going to be a proper vacation. “His room still looks like a bombsite but with Jace that’s not an indication of much but I imagine Clary is on his case” Izzy said, she’d have to check with her and make sure.
Magnus laughed as he placed one hand in the water bowl before the nail tech went onto working on his other hand, “I’m not the least bit surprised that Jace’s room would look like that. Such a contrast from Alexander’s old room.” Alec was much more meticulous than his Parabatai when it came to most things, “Then again, I’m sure that before we leave, our room will look the same when we actually begin packing.” Trying to decide what to pack when going on vacation always seemed to cause a bit of a mess.
“Alec has always been neat and tidy, everything has it’s place” Izzy said with obvious affection as the let the technician do as she wished with her hands, “Whenever I used to choose an outfit he’d despair over the state of my room, though I don’t think it’s ever been as bad as Jace’s”
“I can’t imagine how he gets Clary to agree to stay there with it being a mess,” Clary also seemed like a very neat person, maybe with the exception of her art, because what artist actually had a neat desk or studio? Weren’t they always in a state of organized chaos with all of their supplies? “Or does she try to clean it?”
“She tried to begin with but now she just makes sure her areas of the room are tidy and spends plenty of time in mine” Which was tidier than Jace’s unless she was in a fashion crisis and her wardrobe was everywhere, but then Clary tended to help her pick things. Clary had a room to do her art but Izzy had never been in, it seemed kind of personal.
Magnus laughed, picturing one side of Jace’s room clean while the other half was in chaos, “That makes complete sense. Maybe her tidiness will rub off on Jace someday,” It might take awhile, but he had no doubt that if anyone was a good influence on Jace, it was Clary Fray.
“Maybe, he’s bound to want to impress her with cleanliness at some point” Izzy grinned, “I don’t think I’ll have a problem with Simon when we live together” He was about on par with her when it came to tidiness.
Magnus quirked a brow at Isabelle’s comment, “Are you and Sherman planning on moving in together sometime soon? Going to move in with the rest of his band as well?” He teased, deliberately using one of the names he’d used from the dreams when he chose not to remember Simon’s name. “Or would they have to part with him?”
Izzy chuckled, “You wound him up with that you know? You are such a tease Magnus Bane” Izzy commented knowing full well he knew Simon's name in the dreams. “We haven't talked about it or anything it's just going to happen at some point and I will definitely be stealing him away. Have you met those guys? They're nice enough but I'm not living with them”
Magnus grinned, “It’s not my fault that I couldn’t remember Simon’s name. After five hundred plus years, I had a lot of names to remember.” He glanced at the girl doing his nails to gauge her reaction, but she either wasn’t paying attention or simply was showing any reaction to what he said. Not that Magnus really cared either way, considering he rarely glamoured his eyes anymore to over his warlock mark. “I have met them, yes.” He didn’t blame Izzy for wanting Simon all to herself though.
“Uh huh, sure you did” Izzy said giving him a smirk, it seemed like their manicurists were oblivious or used to strange talk. Either way it worked in their favour as they chatted. “I’m sure I can convince him that living with me would be much better” when the time came anyway.
“I mean, if he’d rather live with his roommates than you, there’s something wrong with him,” Magnus had seen the way Simon looked at Isabelle though so he was pretty sure that, given the choice, he would move in with her in a heartbeat.
Izzy laughed, “I think you’re right” she said with a smile, it was something she’d been thinking about more recently. She missed Alec a lot, Clary moving in had helped and seeing her and Jace together she did think it would be nice to have Simon around more. He stayed over sometimes and it was always better to wake up together.
“I usually am,” Magnus smirked then brought his attention to his manicurist as she told him to move to the hand dryer. He thanked her before getting to his feet and glanced down at Isabelle, “See you in a few minutes.” She looked like she was almost done as well.
“Well I can’t really deny that can I?” she smiled before nodding, it wouldn’t be too long before she was at the dryers too. Then they could go and get coffee to celebrate their new polished nails.
