Who: Ben & Juliet Linus
What: Juliet serves Ben divorce papers
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Ben's office
Rating: PG for now, will update if this changes
Status: In progress

Juliet wasn't an idiot. She knew when her marriage was over. The worst part was that she only had the dreams to blame. If it weren't for the things the Linus' had seen they would probably still be happily married. Ben was the one who had the hardest time telling the difference between the dream world and the real world, but even Juliet had her days and quite frankly she didn't want to be married to a murderer who carried a gun.

Juliet clutched the papers closely to her chest as Ben's secretary let her into Ben's office. She waited for the door to be closed behind her and then said "hello."

Ben had been on the phone, checking in with a patient who was housebound. It was his first day back in his office, and he was dressed in a suit for the first time in weeks. He looked thinner and a little older. Juliet did, too.

"...Gordon, I'm going to have to call you back," he said, eyes locked on his wife. He realized immediately that he wasn't happy to see her. The phone clicked against its cradle. "Hello."

Juliet felt like she could cut the tension in the room with a knife. He was obviously not happy to see her which was exactly why she was holding the papers she was.

She didn't smile. Her face was emotionless as she dropped the papers on the desk in front of Ben. "I file for a divorce," Juliet said. There was no reason to beat around the bush here. She wasn't going to get a pleasant conversation out of him.

Was this her idea of a joke? Waiting until the first day he was out of the house to tell him she didn't want to share theirs anymore. Then again, his wife had never been one to think many steps ahead. This was likely an impulsive act, coming to the office. It was clear she couldn't stand him anymore. And he didn't trust her. Was there anything left, after that?

"I'm supprised it took you this long..."

"Listen, Ben..." Juliet sighed. It was so obvious how much he hated her. "I don't want this to turn into something messy. We did the pre-nup so let's just stick to that plan."

Ben picked up a pen. He looked into the eyes of his murderous wife one last time. "Where do you need me to sign?"

"It's marked," Juliet replied. There was a little pink post-it on the pages he needed to initial or sign.

"I'll turn in the papers and in six months we will no longer be married. We'll need to sell the house. I'll have my real estate agent contact you."

Ben set the ink to the paper, and his name in his beautiful handwriting appeared beneath the point; again and again... He turned the pages and signed every marked line.

"That's fine," he said, about the house. "I've been wanting to downsize anyway."

Juliet watched as Ben signed away their marriage. At least it wasn't a big emotional show down. She was half expecting it to be, but nowadays things were just cold and bitter between them.

"It works out perfectly then," Juliet replied and then crossed her arms over her chest to wait for Ben to finish.

Ben turned the final page. He clicked the pen first, watching the point retract and setting it aside before lifting the pages and extending them to her. Juliet would have to forgive him for not standing up. Back surgery, and all.

"Congratulations," he said, cold as ice. His smile was eerie.

Juliet took the papers from Ben and had to keep from rolling her eyes when he congratulated her. There really was no talking to Ben. He didn't want to hear what she had to say. He wasn't willing to believe that she didn't want to kill him, that she wanted nothing but the best for him. So, it was just better to let it be.

"Goodbye, Ben," was all she said before she turned and made her way to the door.
