Myrcella had finally gotten some time to herself since getting back from England over Christmas and New Year. Almost as soon as she’d gotten back she’d taken appointments and it seemed like she had definitely been missed if her diary was any indication. But she couldn’t complain, it kept her business going after all.
Luckily she had booked out this day to do paperwork and as such had invited Anna over for tea and cake - she had a few chocolate goodies from the UK to give her friend too.
Anna was super excited to catch up with Myrcella. She hadn’t heard much about her friend’s trip to the UK, so she wanted all the details! She didn’t have many of her own to report. Anna’s life was, for one of the few times ever, perfect. Her grades were good, she had an amazing boyfriend, her home life was calm. It was good. Things were good.
Anna showed up at her friend’s place with a couple of gifts; a tin of looseleaf tea from that expensive tea shop in the mall, and a wrapped present. She’d gotten Myrcella a pair of small, gold earrings in the shape of bows. She thought they were beautiful, and hoped her friend would like them, too!
“Anna, it’s so good to see you” Myrcella said with a smile as she hugged her friend once Anna was inside, “How was your Christmas and New Year? It seems so long ago now” she asked as she led her friend through to the living room where she’d set up a little tea and cake for them.
Anna beamed brightly and hugged her friend with enthusiasm. “You, too! God, it’s been like, forever.” She followed her friend inside and then took a seat at the table. “This is beautiful!” She said, quickly, then set the presents on the table. “It was good! Nothing out of the ordinary. Well, except that everything was out of the ordinary. You know how it goes. Oh, I celebrated Hannukah with Kate and Elsa. That was sorta new. But enough about me! Tell me about your trip!”
“I have to admit I’m glad we missed the craziness, I was sure the snow would screw with our plans again but we seem to have been lucky this time around” Myrcella admitted, “Oh I didn’t know Kate was Jewish, how lovely. I’m sure she loved celebrating with you. Well obviously we stayed at my house, and we did all the touristy things which I’d never actually done before like the Tower of London and the London Eye and all that kind of thing. And my mum booked us all into a hotel along the river for New Year so we could enjoy a brilliant view of the fireworks from the warmth of the hotel room” she grinned.
Anna was really glad that it’d worked out so well for Myrcella and Jeremy. It would have been a shame for the snow to interrupt their trip for a second year in a row. “I think she likes to honor tradition, and pay homage to her roots,” Anna offered up. “Kate’s a really lovely person. She compliments my sister so well! I’m so glad they found one another.” She smiled warmly, then settled back in her chair. Some of the excited energy she felt to see her friend again was fading into a pleasant happiness. “Oh, that sounds amazing! How were the fireworks? And I’ve never been on the London Eye. Is it super cool to go up so high? I bet the views are spectacular.”
It was always nice when two people who were made for each other managed to find each other in this huge world. Myrcella liked to think she and Jeremy were like that, the romantic fairytale loving Myrcella was definitely still going strong. “They were amazing, though I have to admit I think they went on a little too long. I started getting bored after a few minutes. The London Eye is amazing though, on a clear day you can get the most amazing views. The whole of London sprawled out in front of you”
“Really?” Anna laughed. “That’s kinda funny. It’s supposed to be this spectacular event… I remember as a child never wanting them to stop. But I can see how it might get boring. Especially if it’s the same thing over and over. I think I can only take about fifteen minutes of fireworks myself before the excitement wears off.” Anna was super excited to have tea with her friend, so she started to pour them each a cup. “How did Jeremy like it?” She asked, grinning. “This wasn’t your first big trip with him, was it?”
“I’ve never been a big firework fan” she admitted, “Even as a child I wasn’t but even I know the London ones are amazing. He loved it and yeah this was our biggest trip so far. I think he was a little nervous because of my mum but everything went well. She even let us share my old room so I think she’s finally accepted that I do have my own grown up life here now”
Anna gasped. “You shared your old room? Wow, that’s a big step! I mean, not for you guys, obviously, but for your mom and everything. She’s finally seeing you as a grown-up.” Anna wondered for a moment what her parents would have thought about Wash. The thought was a little heart-wrenching, actually, so she didn’t dwell on it. “How was the trip besides all that? Did you guys do all the other touristy stuff? I loved the Tower of London.”
“I know right? It was amazing, I was pretty proud of her. She didn’t even give Jeremy the evil eye all the time” Myrcella had been relieved to see that her mum was accepting her as an adult now. “We did lots of touristy stuff, even things I’d never done and I used to live there” she laughed, “We had a wonderful time. And I brought back some presents, I thought with your sweet tooth you’d like these” she lifted the gift bag full of chocolate and biscuits from the side of the chair and passed it to Anna.
“Myrcella! This is amazing!” Anna gasped again as she accepted the bag of sweets from her friend. “You really didn’t need to do this! But thank you! I’m going to love them, I’m sure of it. Do you want one? We could open something now and give it a try.” Anna was all about trying new things--especially sweets from other countries.
“Well it was a prime opportunity to pick up some things while I was over there and I want you to see what you’re missing” Myrcella wasn’t keen on American chocolate in general, there were only a few exceptions she’d found. Even Cadbury’s made in America tasted different. “Go for it, see what you think of it” she encouraged.
Anna nodded, and pulled one of the random packages out of the bag. She opened it up to give it a try. “Are you going to share with me?” Anna asked, giving her friend a smile.
“Oh no, you try it. I’ve got a stash too and I ate way too much chocolate when I was over there” Myrcella said, it had played havoc with her skin and she was trying to get back into her moisturising routine.
Anna took a bite, then hummed as she chewed. “Why is it,” she asked, holding a hand in front of her mouth because it was still kind of full of chocolate, “that British candy is so much better than American candy?”
Myrcella laughed, “I think it’s the milk content, it tastes purer somehow, sweeter. I find American chocolate a little bitter but not the good dark chocolate kind of bitter”
“Yes!” Anna agreed, eyes going wide. “That’s pretty much exactly it! I mean, we can find really good chocolate over here, but it’s like, super expensive, indie stuff.” She finished her bite, and wrapped the rest of the chocolate up to save it. “Thank you, Myrcella. This is great. Oh! Oh, I got you these,” she offered up the small package with the earrings in it to her friend.
“Exactly, it’s all part of my plan to get you addicted to British chocolate you know, just so you get my pain” she grinned, “Awww thank you Anna, you didn’t need to get me anything” she said as she took the package, “They’re beautiful, thank you so much” she gave her friend a hug.
“I definitely understand that pain now.” Anna leaned forward to return her friend’s hug. “You’re very welcome! You’ve helped me so much with fashion choices, I wanted to show you that I’ve actually picked up a hint or two from you.” She grinned brightly as she pulled back. “I’m so glad you like them!”
“You definitely have, these are perfect and I already know a few outfits that will be complete now” Myrcella said with a smile, she was so glad they’d become friends. Anna was one of the nicest people she knew.
Anna smiled warmly. “I’m so glad. And I’m happy you had a good trip home. But I’m even more happy that you’re back.” She lifted her cup of tea in a toast.
