Poe is excited for Valentine's Day. He's sort of a mooshy romantic, and he's glad that Ben wants to do something goofy. It lets Poe know that Ben is still, well, Ben, and that he's not letting the dreams get him down. Armed with the amazing pie, and some roses and champagne - because obviously - he knocks on Ben's door. "Open up in there."
It's been a strange and wonderful year, since he first saw Poe raiding the dessert buffet at the company party. Some low points, but Poe definitely balances out those low points. He adjusts the orange and white bouquet in its vase and makes sure the little box holding the towel is on the counter, then goes to answer the door. "What -- on earth do you have there."
"Hello to you, too." He stands on the balls of his feet to press a kiss to Ben's chin. "It's pie. And flowers. And champagne." Which is hard to juggle, so he moves inside to set it all down on the counter in the kitchen. "Can I get a proper hello now?"
"Well I can see that now." Once Poe's arms are free and in less danger of dropping things, Ben pulls him in for a proper kiss. "Hello, properly. Happy Valentine's Day."
"Happy Valentine's Day," Poe says, happily returning the kiss. "How are you? How is everything?" He turns to uncork the champagne, getting the glasses down from the cupboard.
"I'll -- answer that in a second after you tell me if this pie has a Death Star on it?" He looks closer and snorts a laugh. "A Death Star with a heart?"
"This pie might in fact have a Death Star on it." The cork pops and Poe wipes up the champagne that fizzes over, pouring it into their glasses. "A Death Star with a heart. Finn didn't seem convinced you'd like it, but I think you do."
"That is -- hilarious and adorable. I do like it. Finn underestimates my sense of humour." Ben takes Poe's hand to kiss a bit of leftover champagne off of his fingertips. "Thank you for my ridiculous pie."
"I figured it suited the theme of the night." Poe wiggles his fingers against Ben's mouth and hands him a glass. "I figured we could appropriately tipsy and full of food before we stuck stars all over the ceiling."
He touches his glass to Poe's with a teasing smile. "You mean before I stick stars on the ceiling, under your careful direction. You're too short."
"I had visions of you lifting me up so I could help." He raises his eyebrows, sipping the champagne. "Or standing on the bed."
"I was wondering, actually, if you remembered what the stars looked like from Yavin. I thought maybe we could do that. If you wanted to." The request is a little shy and he looks more at his glass than at Poe.
Ugh, how is that even fair. Poe leans against the counter thoughtfully. It'd be easier with BB-8 there, who could pull up schematics, but so much of that is Poe that it doesn't take long for the recollection to seep in. "Yeah, I think I got it."
The smile is equally as shy and he presses a kiss to Poe's hair. "Then we'll do that. This is for you, too. It's silly, but -- I thought of you." And he hands the little box over, with a kitchen towel that reads If you love an airman, raise your glass. If you don't, raise your standards.
"I like when you're silly." Poe sets aside his drink so he can open his gift, and he laughs. "I do like when you say you love me without actually saying you love me," he teases.
"Well, I do love you." Another kiss that he lets linger, nuzzling happily at Poe's hair. "We did meet on Valentine's Day. I think it's required by law that I fall in love with you, in that case."
"Mm, that's true. I mean, it's hard not to love me, what with how charming I am." He grins, pressing his nose into Ben's chest.
"I'm a little harder to love. But somehow you manage." His champagne is set aside so he can wrap his arms tightly around Poe.
"Pfft." Poe rolls his eyes and snorts. "You're actually a big teddy bear. Who has the odd temper tantrum now and then. We're working on it."
Ben smiles and rubs his hands over Poe's back. "The yoga helps. You help more."
"I do what I can." Though honestly, Poe's worried about what's going to happen when they all start dreaming again. There's no telling what Ben's counterpart is going to be like following the sort of humiliating defeat. "So. Should we order something delicious for our romantic night in?"
"There's a fantastic place not too far away that does Classic American. Really good steak, that sort of thing. That's what you do for Valentine's Day, right? Steak and some sort of chocolate dessert?"
"Have I said lately I love you?" Because Ben had Poe at steak, really. "Do they deliver or do we get to go on a romantic walk?" Poe sips at his champagne, then ducks away so he can put the pie in the fridge.
"They deliver. Though I guess we should skip the chocolate, since we have Death Star Pie for dessert. Trust you to break with tradition." Ben shakes his head and ducks down to kiss Poe's cheek. "I'll place our order if you pick a red wine for us."
"It has a heart!" Poe argues, because that''s traditional. "And it's cherry, which is red. Can't we have both? A midnight snack of chocolate?" He pats Ben on the hip and goes to investigate his wine options.
"I'll order chocolate, then," he calls back and shakes his head. Which he does. Steak, mashed potatoes, and asparagus for dinner and a chocolate torte for some sort of midnight romantic snack. Probably while looking at glow in the dark stars. Or on the balcony.
Ben never really considered he could have this much romance in his life.
Sorry, that's just Poe's influence. Poe doesn't do anything by halves, and he doesn't do anything with a lot of thought behind it. He likes to jump in and wing it, and maybe that spontaneity is good because it balances out Ben's caution. They're good for each other. All things considered.
"Now we'll just have to behave ourselves until dinner gets here," he quips, from the wine rack.
Ben joins him at the wine rack and wraps an arm around his waist, bending low to kiss the back of his neck. "I just wanted to say thank you. For tonight, and for the past year. It's been -- strange. Definitely strange. But you made it good."
That gets a snort from Poe, followed by an easy smile. "It's going to take more than some intense headgear in some dreams to scare me away."
