Vanessa had been unsure whether they would go out or not for Valentine’s Day, they weren’t the kind of people to follow tradition but Dorian had gotten them a reservation at their favourite restaurant and brought her flowers. Vanessa couldn’t deny she enjoyed the gesture, Dorian had a romantic soul and Vanessa greatly appreciated it.
She’d put on a dress she knew Dorian would appreciate and they’d made their way to the restaurant. “It’s nice to see so many happy people around” she said after they had ordered, “As if everybody has taken one night off from their worries to focus on the good things”
Dorian and Vanessa certainly weren’t a normal couple. Sure, they went out to dinner like a normal couple and went on random dates like a normal couple, but normal boyfriends usually bought their girlfriends roses for Valentine’s Day as opposed to Deadly Nightshade. Most people would think it quite odd of someone to get their girlfriend flowers that were essentially poisonous, but considering they had a connection to the flower through the dreams, it was the flower that reminded Dorian of Vanessa.
“Well, considering it’s not raining blood, I would say this year certainly beats last year.” While most people had been scared about the blood rain, Dorian had found it oddly fascinating. “So it would only make sense that everyone would come out tonight to try and make up for last year.”
Vanessa loved her flowers, she’d have been disappointed with roses or any normal kind of flower. Deadly Nightshade held significance for both of them and Vanessa found them beautiful and fascinating.
Vanessa smiled, “I find it’s almost a shame, there’s something enchanting about blood rain. When it’s not being used against you at a party by a nightcomer” she added alluding to the dreams she shared with Dorian. Vanessa had seen a vision of blood rain at a party held by Dorian thanks to the nightcomer hunting her and had needed to return home.
Dorian chuckled, “I certainly wouldn’t want it to rain blood inside.” Talking about blood though, reminded him of his latest dream where Victor had come to confront him and Lily at his house where he’d wound up shooting them both, only to find out that Dorian, like Lily, couldn’t actually die and after he’d left in shock, they had proceeded to dance while blood soaked into their white attire. “Much more difficult to clean up than when it’s outside.”
“I imagine so. And we have too many nice things which would be ruined by blood stains” Vanessa said practically, “There is a certain beauty to observing things from the comfort and safety of your own home, I would not take kindly to anything invading that” Vanessa was rather protective of the home she now shared with Dorian, it was a beautiful house and she appreciated everything in it.
“And I certainly wouldn’t want to have to clean that up,” Dorian said as a waiter approached with the bottle of wine Dorian had ordered and poured them both a glass, “I hope you like this one. It’s one of my personal favorites.” Dorian had once thought about buying a vineyard, but it had only been a fleeting idea at the time. Now though, he thought that it might not be a bad idea to have his own personal vineyard.
“I’m sure I will, you have excellent taste” Vanessa told him with a smile before she sampled the wine, “Mmm perfect” she approved, owning a vineyard would suit Dorian, Vanessa could definitely imagine it.
Dorian smiled and took a sip of his wine and placed the glass back down on the table, “I’m glad you like it.” He was happy to get to share these sorts of things with Vanessa. The things that he had grown up around, “We should go on another trip soon. That is, if you can take the time off.” There were so many places that he wanted to take Vanessa.
Vanessa appreciated everything Dorian shared with her, she hadn’t travelled much really or experienced half the things he had so it was always a fascinating experience. “I’d love that. Just tell me when, luckily working for myself means I don’t need to give too much notice” She had some regulars but she knew they wouldn’t mind.
They had already gone to Paris, recently, so Dorian would have to give it a little thought as to where to go this time, “Where is one place you’d love to visit?” Knowing that could make his decision easier considering he wanted to do whatever made Vanessa happy.
Vanessa considered the question, of course both Paris and Greece had been on her list of places she’d love to go and Dorian had already fulfilled those wishes. “Perhaps Italy? There are so many places to see. Not only Milan and Rome but also Verona and Pisa and Venice” Far too much for one trip of course but any time there would be wonderful. There was such a history in Europe and of course the Italians in particular were known for their romanticism.
Italy would be an easy wish to fulfill and he would be sure to that Vanessa got to see as much as she wanted. “I think that can be arranged.” Dorian smiled and took a sip of his wine, “You’ll love Italy. You’ll never want to leave.” He had a feeling that Vanessa would take to Italy immediately.
Vanessa smiled, “Then I look forward to it, who knows maybe I’ll convince you we should move there” she added with a mischievous look as she reached over to take his hand, linking their fingers with a happy smile.
