This sort of thing...it’s organic

Sitting crossed legged next to Rey as she tinkered was amusing for Celaena. Not that Rey did it, but because it reminded her of their different interests and that they were still great friends. Picking up an adjustable wrench, Celaena spun the little gizmo in the middle and waited for Rey to ask for another tool.
“So how are things? What’s been happening in the life of Rey?” she asked, leaning her elbows on her knees.
“Spanner please,” Rey asked, holding out her hand for the right tool. “Uhm. Not much? Though Finn and I are getting closer?” Lots of snogging. She was getting into the snogging. And the snuggling. She really liked the snuggling. She’d never really felt that way about someone before. “Other than that a lot of working. I’ve got a couple projects! What about you?”
Celaena frowned and looked around for the spanner. “Ah!” she smiled to herself as she grabbed it, proud that she could identify the right tool and handed it Rey. “Hey I’m getting good at this, y’know, apart from all the getting dirty and broken nails,” she shrugged.
“Getting closer, huh? Look at you playing all coy. Tell me more! What happened with you two?” Celaena bounced her knees as she grinned and nudged Rey playfully.
“Thank you.” Rey took the spanner and used it, showing Cel what she was doing while she was doing it. “I’m sure your nails will recover.”
Her cheeks turned a little pink. “We kissed. A lot. It was nice. That’s all! … I wouldn’t have the first clue what to do after that.”
Rey was exaggerating a little. “Well, I think I’d figure it out I just don’t know how to get from A to B.”
Celaena shrugged and examined her nails. “They probably would, but why would I ruin a perfectly good gel manicure?” she reasoned before turning her attention back to Rey and tickling her fingers over the other girl’s sides with a cheery grin as she did. “Lots and lots of kissing huh? Well I can tell you what happens next if you’d like? How to get from A to B?” she offered, sitting back and watching Rey for her reaction.
“Next time I’ll get you gloves,” Rey said. She might have even been joking, at least judging by the smile on her face. A smile that quickly faltered as she stared at Celaena in shock, her face turning red. “I’m not that naive!”
The internet existed for a reason.
Celaena held her hands up defensively. “Hey now, you’re the one who said you didn’t know how to get from A to B,” she pointed out. “There’s nothing wrong if you’ve not done anything with a guy before. I only properly fooled around with someone last year after Damian and I got together,” she told her friend.
“I mean… I don’t know how to … initiate.” Because she didn’t think Finn would unless he knew she was into the idea, and Rey didn’t know if she was actually into the idea but she should at least try. “If I do it wrong he might not understand. Or worse, he’ll faint in shock or something.”
“Why wouldn’t he understand? He’s a guy, I kind of thought they were...pre-programmed with a natural response to a gorgeous girl throwing themselves at them,” Celaena frowned as she gestured to Rey. “Have you…y’know, talked to him about it? How you’re feeling? Coz he might be just as worried as you are,” she offered. “I mean, do you want to have sex with him? Or fool around more than kissing? It’s ok if you’re not,” Celaena shrugged as she considered everything. Damian had been a true gent when it came to that sort of thing, backed off when she said she wasn’t ready and let her initiate their first time, but she knew it wasn’t always like that for people.
“I think I throw him off a lot of the time because I’m really relationship dumb,” Rey explained. “I don’t want him to think I’m trying to do something else when I’m trying to...seduce him or something.”
She tapped her tool against her chin. “I never really put much thought to it before? It’s never been something I really cared about, you know? I never really … felt like this before Finn. But I’m...I want to. How can I know if I like something if I never try it?”
Celaena smiled at her friend sympathetically and reached over to take the tool from her hands. “You’re over-thinking it, babe,” she told her. “It’s not a machine with a set of instructions for best practice. This sort of thing...it’s organic, it grows from something tiny like...a peck on the cheek, to your arms around each other as you walk, to kissing on his couch and then...y’know,” she smiled brilliantly at Rey as she thought back on how her own relationship with Damian had started. “I think you need to relax a bit and let go of your tension. Try and stop worrying about it and just live in the moment. If it feels right to kiss him then do it,” she shrugged. “If you’re not comfortable with hitting second base then tell him that you’re not ready. If he cares about you he’ll wait for you to be ready,” she smiled, holding the tool out for Rey to take.
“Why can’t there be a set of instructions?” Rey frowned, whining a little bit. If it was a machine with instructions she wouldn’t have these problems. “It would make my life a lot easier.”
She ran her fingers through her hair. “It feels right to kiss him. Other stuff I guess I’ll find out when I have to cross that bridge!”
Celaena laughed at that. “Trust me babe, if there were instructions about that sort of thing, the world would be a happier, and probably more boring, place. Not to mention that whoever wrote them would be a very, very wealthy person,” she joked. “But seriously, if you just want to kiss him, then that’s ok. If you want to...y’know, get a bit more intimate then that’s ok too, just remember that you should go at your own pace and you can always ask him to slow things down. If he cares for you like it sounds he does then he’ll be cool with that. Don’t stress too much.”
“I really like kissing him,” Rey said, ducking her head and flushing. “So I guess your advice is to take it at my own pace?” She mock pouted, “If only I could figure out what that is!”
“That’s great, and you’re allowed to like kissing him,” Celaena playfully punched her on the arm. “But yeah, kiss him at your own pace. You’ll be fine and if you ever need to talk about something just call me,” she smiled at her before leaning forward. “Now, what the hell is this thing and why are we fixing it?”
Rey smiled, grateful for the advice. “Well, without this, my motorcycle won’t run. So we definitely need to get it working.” She gestured Cel in closer so she could talk in more detail.
