Azula had recieved the location where Rarity was being held. She was to come unarmed, and alone. Fine. She didn’t need a weapon and she certainly didn’t need back up. She’d gotten Rarity into this and she’d get her out.
She parked down the street, and walked up to the decrepit looking apartment building. Rarity must be having a fit over the living conditions.
That was probably the least of her problems though...
It had not been a good stay, that's for sure. Things were dirty, smelled of sweat, urine, and cheap dimestore perfume. The worst of all was she couldn't see any of it.
Rarity let out a frustrated noise when she came to for the third time today. Each time she'd woken up she'd been met by a fist and a kick to the shins. They'd learned few hours in to gag her mouth or her complaining of it being too cold and damp would kill their ears.
The men had shaved a lewd design into one half of her head, and cut the rest of her hair short. Other than the beatings, that was the extent of their treatment
Azula slowly made her way up the stairs, scoping the place out before knocking. One of the men said that was her, and then they opened the door.
"Let me see Rarity, or you won't get a penny," Azula said darkly, letting her anger bleed over.
"Sure things, baby."
That was when the other man started breaking Rarity's fingers.
If her mouth hadn't been gagged, the scream would have been louder. All the same it was there as each finger was quickly snapped. She's already in a mixture of blind haze and pain, so much so she barely connected the first spoken words to being Azula.
Rarity let out a growl of pain when a sudden burning sensation was repeatedly flashed at both hands, she tensed her whole body, trying to jerk away.
Azula's fire turned both men to ash. Rarity's blindfold burned away to let her see the last few horrific moments of their lives as they burned to death. There was a moment of complete, motionless silence, then Azula was brushing away the remains of the blindfold and pulling out the gag. She cradled Rarity's head in her arms as her anger only grew hotter.
"Azu-..." gasped and sputtered amongst the mixture of blood and saliva that poured forth from her mouth. She was terrified, of the ash, the pain that ran through her hands and arms. But most of all of Azula.
When she held her she momentarily flinched away, mostly out of a fight or flight mechanism. Rarity leaned forward closer, trying to get some focus out of the numbing haze that was quickly over taking her brain.
"They're gone," Azula assured her, trying to dampen her anger. For once in her life she didn't want someone to fear her. She was moving past that and the irony of the situation was not lost on her. Pushing that away, she pulled back to inspect Rarity. Broken. Like Ty Lee. They'd do it to Mai if they could. They did it to Mai's little brother.
She needed a doctor, but who could she trust?
"What..." She let out the most pathetic whimper, blood still dripping down her chin. She had no idea what she did to deserve this, what Azula did to warrant people doing things of this nature.
Rarity let out a wheezed cough, keeping her eyes shut tight. The image of them bursting into bright blue flames, becoming ash in mere milliseconds, is imprinted in her eyelids.
She broke out into sobs, her body trembling and twitching at the shock that was overtaking her form.
Azula whipped out her cell phone.
Azula>> Neena, I need a doctor I can trust.
Neena: >>Is this for Ty Lee? I thought she was in good hands.
Azula: >> This is for Rarity. They broke her fingers and punched her.
Neena: >> Hells. Alright. I know someone, but try to keep your presence there a low profile if you can.
Neena: >> She's the only doctor I trust and I don't want her in danger. Her name is Moira.
Neena: >> She works here: [Address] ... tell her I sent you.
Azula: >> Thank you. I appreciate this. And some time I need to talk to you about something you will probably understand.
Neena: >> Sounds delightful. We'll have plenty of time to talk this week, I'm sure. Text me or something.
Neena: >> Hope the seamstress chick is okay. Her dresses were pretty good.
Azula: >> I took care of them. I'm starting to feel...sick.
Azula: >> I need to go.
"I'm going to take you to a doctor," Azula said, her voice thick with emotion as she untied Rarity and lifted her up. The address was farther than she would have liked, and she was going to need a new car interior, but that was all right. As long as Rarity was okay in the end. She put her in the back seat, threw the case of money in the trunk and sped off.
Rarity push her head to the coolness of the window, holding her arm in the most comfortable (and least painful) of positions. She had only nodded to Azula's words, her head still in a heavy fog of emotion.
"I hurt... " and speaking alone set a searing pain in her jaw that made her arch her body forward. Okay, talking equals PAIN.
"I'm sorry." The words sounded weak and useless, but they were all Azula had right now. She barely kept within the speed-limit, not wanting to involve law enforcement in something that would be difficult to explain and involve more people than she was comfortable with.
At least until they could bring down her father's criminal empire without a cascade reaction and a power vacuum.
"I'll explain when you're better."
It took a lot to nod in understanding, this was not going to be easy. A bump was obvious under the car, causing her to jolt out of the stupor.
Rarity looked down at the purple and bloody mess that was her hand, and in seeing, her heart sunk. Tears went faster, realising there was a chance her hand would never work the same again.
Azula hoped Moira was a miracle worker. She peeled up to the hospital, then towards the back entrance, and per the address on Neena's text, found the door. She carried Rarity in.
The nurse was so used to people bursting in and asking for Moira that she pointed towards the elevator without a word, and Azula took it up.
"Neena sent me," Azula said, as she stepped off the elevator.
The Scottish doctor looked over, "Och. Lay her over here, lass." She didn't ask any questions outside of those pertinent to the injuries, then she ordered Azula to wait around the corner. She shot Rarity up, and then said in a gentle voice, "This will still hurt, lass. I'm goin' tae straighten ye fingers out so they'll set better."
This wasn't going to be pleasant. She nodded and stood as still as she could get. Each bent to her finger to put them back where they should could was met with a little yelp, and a slam of her fist to whatever it was she was laid on.
After each finger was aligned, she kept still to stay in that position, not daring to move her hand for fear of causing them to shift out of place.
"Ye did well. We're almost done." Moira assured her, as she worked to secure the fingers so they couldn't be moved. Once her hand was taken care of, she then turned her attention to Rarity's other wounds. Cuts and bruises mostly. She clucked her tongue at what had been shaved into her head, and then quickly shaved the hair around it to get rid of the disgusting image, "Trust me, lass, ye didnae want tae see what they put there. Now did they do anything else..?"
"Not that I could tell," Azula said, from around the corner. If they had, she would have killed them much more slowly. She rather dreaded Rarity's answer.
"N-not much." hissed out at every movement. "My jaw... Could use." clenched her eyes and took in breath. "Could use some looking at." she tipped her head back. "Sure the... the pigs felt me up. But nothing more than... that." She was now set on not talking any more than she has to.
To help, she tipped her head to show where she felt the stem of the pain come from. There was a spot near the back that was the same shades of purple as her hand. A slight fracture most likely.
"Shh. That's enough lass." Moira tilted Rarity's head, and brought her scanner away from her hand and over the jaw, "Aye, ye've got a small fracture. I dunnae think we need tae wire it shut."
Which was a pity, as anyone who knew Rarity at all would beg for her mouth to be wired shut for the duration of her recovery. So that they wouldn't have to listen to her constant complaints.
Moira ordered Azula back, "What really happened."
"Someone considers me an enemy, and hurt her. Probably the same people that hit Ty Lee with a car."
"Och." Moira narrowed her eyes. She hated criminal and spy games. She squeezed Rarity's shoulder, "Do ye have anywhere ye can go, that's nae yuir home, and is safe?"
"Setsuna?" Azula asked, somewhat reluctantly. She didn't want another person hurt because of her.
Rarity nodded, Setsuna was a good choice. Good for her. She knew full well Azula would feel the wrath of a protective girlfriend soon as she found out. She'd demand an explanation for sure.
She was unsure as to procedure for medical things, she tried to steer clear of hospitals.
"I'll see to it you get a generous grant," Azula said quietly. That would cover Moira's time and effort, as well as the pile of drugs that was getting shoved into her hands. Painkillers and antibiotics, as well as orders to bring Rarity in in a week to get her hand and jaw looked at again.
"And for god's sake, lass," Moira finished. "I dunnae want tae see YE in here, tae!"
Rarity disliked the bland white cast her hand was given, that would surely be dealt with. Despite the shot, she managed to get herself to standing enough to properly thank the woman and to stumble her way out the door.
She's too stubborn to stay there long. Too stubborn for her own good. Not two seconds out and she crumbled against the wall.
Azula picked Rarity up. She knew stubborn and she knew she shouldn't bother asking, "Lets get you to Setsuna..Then I'll bring you some markers so you can color your cast."
"No... My bedazzler... Thing." she too doped up for words now... She grunted trying to show appreciation for the help of staying stable.
"That will work." She got Rarity into the car, "Where does Setsuna live?"
It took some effort to type into her phone's GPS the location and set it on the dash for her to listen and follow.
Azula nodded, and followed the directions. She stroked Rarity's arm.
"We... We’re almost there" Rarity whimpered, trying to focus on where it was they were. The touch to her did a bit to comfort her at very least
Azula nodded, and then parked. She helped Rarity out of the car, and carried her up to Setsuna’s door, and knocked.
Something definitely felt off to Setsuna. She didn't often get visitors, especially not ones who'd knock on the door - Haruka and Michiru had long stopped bothering with that, and Rarity... well, she rarely came by, to be honest.
She certainly didn't expect what she saw when she answered the door. "What in... gods, what happened?"
And more importantly, who could she deliver the wrath of Chronos upon?
Rarity couldn't do much, focusing solely on keeping herself upright. She was embarrassed now to say the very least.
Azula brushed past her, eager to put Rarity down. The only thing she said was “They hurt her to get to me. They won’t be hurting anyone again.”
Someone was going to end up regretting this, if Setsuna had anything to do with it. Her powers might not've been fully developed yet, but... dammit, she wasn't going to let this go unpunished.
"I'll take care of her. And keep her safe - I'm stronger than I look."
Azula looked the woman over, then nodded her head, “Please do. I wish I …” What did she wish? That none of this had happened? She should never have been Rarity’s friend to begin with. That way led only to disaster, she thought.
“I wish it had been different.”
"You couldn't..." Rarity groaned and tried to force herself to sit up and failed. "you couldn't have controlled... This, darling..."
Rarity allowed herself to attempt to get comfortable as she could on the couch, keeping her eyes shut to try and soothe the throbbing in her jaw from speaking.
"You can't control everything... Trust me, I've tried." With a stupid move, she looked over at them both. "Whining didn't work on them like the dogs in my dreams..."Managed to a half giggle before hissing out in pain.
“I’m a princess,” Azula replied simply. She glanced at Setsuna, “..don’t let her look in a mirror for a few days.”
Setsuna nodded. "I'll try my best."
It shouldn't be too hard, right? Wasn't like Rarity was stronger than her or anything.
Azula regarded her a moment, then smiled a bit. It was probably the first real smile she’d had since before the hit and run, “I’ll send you ear plugs for when her jaw is better.”
She spoke as though Rarity’s penchant for complaint was endearing.
"What is that supposed to mean?!" she exclaimed, giving an obvious pout. "I'd hit you if we... If we weren't friends." She stopped to think and rest her jaw before speaking again. "Well, I would... But you're too far away..."
Setsuna couldn't hide the smile this time, shaking her head. "I don't think you really want to hit her... you can always do it when you're better, though."
Even if the thought of anyone punching Azula was a little terrifying. She'd heard stories, after all.
Nodding her head, Azula kissed Rarity on the forehead, then headed out the door. She had the oddest ill feeling, over the men she’d killed recently. It bothered her.
