Who: Henry and Chloe
What: Chloe wakes up with a Dream Dye-job
When: Late December
Where: Chloe's
Rating/Warnings Low/None
Status: Complete!
No one who knew him could claim that Henry Townshend was a morning person. Even neck deep in his Dreams his alarm (unless set off by a haunting event) was usually hit several times allowing Henry more time to snooze. Each time the alarm went off, it brought Henry closer and closer to being human.
He wasn’t quite as bad when he spent the night at Chloe’s. He used his cell phone as an alarm and instead of the four or five times of hitting the snooze option, he could manage to drag himself awake after two. However, the more comfortable he was getting with Chloe, the longer he let his alarm go in the morning. This morning, it had gone off twice already and twice Henry had groggily reached for it to shut it up, but made no real movement to get out of Chloe’s nice warm bed. Chloe snuggled up against his side was making it especially hard for Henry to want to move this morning.
The alarm was going off for the third time, a pleasant sounding sound of birds chirping accompanied by peaceful sounding music. It sounded as though his phone was declaring to him that it was a brand new day and he should be up and enjoying it! Henry grunted and unwrapped one of his arms from Chloe and reached for his phone on the night table next to him. He looked blearily at the time and even though he would have rather stayed in bed, decided it was probably time that he got up.
“I gotta head into work,” Henry said through a yawn, even though he didn’t quite think Chloe was awake. He placed his phone back on the night table and rolled over to snuggle his nose against her neck to wake her. He stopped though when his eyes fell on the dark head in the bed next to him.
What the….?
At first Henry wasn’t sure if he was actually awake or not. But that didn’t make any sense! The only dark haired person in his Dreams was Eileen, and she barely seemed to know that Henry existed, much less crawl into bed with him. There had been Cynthia, but she was also very dead. For a moment Henry had a terrible thought that maybe he’d somehow managed to summon a ghost.
But it was fleeting thought that was quickly overcome by reason the more awake Henry became. It was obvious that it was Chloe in bed with him it was just…when had she dyed her hair? “Chloe,” Henry said softly, trying to wake her up. “Chloe?”
The two of them together would probably resolve to never getting out of bed if they absolutely had their way. There was something great about being snuggled up next to Henry under all the blankets that she didn’t want to leave. They could live in their little blanket cocoon forever and she would be quite satisfied. Especially if it somehow prevented Dreams from happening. That would actually be quite amazing. It had been strange to lose her powers during December, but she wasn’t quite sure if she was happy to have them back. And now the Dreams were back once again and Chloe just wanted to be free from it all.
The black hair dye was still an awful choice for the herself in the Dreams because it made her look like the picture perfect “goth girl”. Maybe that was the point of it - she no longer looked like her blonde self, but she stopped looking like her old self a long time ago when she started living on the run from the Edison Group. Her Dreams picked back up with her and Derek arriving into another small town and still attempting to make it to Andrew’s house where Tori and Simon currently were. The town wasn’t small enough because eventually they were found by a couple of werewolves.
Derek was supposedly some kind of big deal and the wolves wanted to bring him back with them. Apparently if they brought him to the North American Werewolf Pack they could use him as a scapegoat for things they had done. There was a scuffle and eventually Chloe stabbed Liam with a knife so she and Derek could run away. On top of that Derek then informed her that if werewolf saliva got in her bloodstream that she could turn into a werewolf so they needed to clean her off as quickly as possible. As they boarded another bus to finally take them to Andrew’s place she heard a voice.
Groggily she tried to fight her way out of her sleep and wake up. Eyes blinked slowly as she realized it was Henry and a confused look passed over her face, “Hmm….what? What’s going on?” Eyes were barely open as she spoke, so she reached a hand up to rub out the sleep.
“Uhm…” Henry wasn’t too sure how to broach the subject of her hair. By now he was absolutely sure that when they had gone to bed that night Chloe had still been blonde. So that meant only one thing: the Dreams had decided to turn her hair black. It actually did not look bad on her in Henry’s opinion. The problem was that Chloe hadn’t dyed her hair herself. Here anyway. Henry remembered a story he heard once while he’d been in school. It’s funny the gossip you hear when you’re not actually a part of any social clique and those around you tended to forget you even existed, much less that you were right there. This particular clique - Mean Girls they’d have probably been called - had been whispering about how they had cut the hair of a shunned member of their group while she had been sleeping.
They way they’d talked and laughed. It had been so malicious and the girl - Henry had seen her later on and she had been absolutely humiliated. Shattered. The last thing Henry wanted was for Chloe to feel that way, especially since the Dreams had, once again, proven their power over them.
“Uhm,” he cleared his throat. If there was a delicate way of saying this, it wasn’t coming to Henry right then. Big surprise. “Your hair...did you, uh...did you dye it in your Dreams recently?”
“What?” what he was saying was making absolutely no sense to Chloe. Why in the world was Henry so fixated on her hair? That wasn’t something they really talked about. It took her a moment, still half asleep, to realize that he asked if she had dyed it recently in her Dreams. Then it clicked that she had dyed her hair in her Dreams while out and about with Derek, but that didn’t really matter, right? “Um, yeah?”
That was then she lifted a hand up to scratch a small itch on her head that strands of her hair fell in her eyes. Well, she assumed it was her hair because it seemed to be attached to her hair, but the color was all wrong. Instead of her beautiful light blonde hair it was dark as night. Just like in her Dreams…. Wait, was this seriously something that happened? She went to bed and woke up with her hair a different color. “What.The.Fuck.” oh now Chloe was fully awake and she looked at Henry with panic in her eyes.
Henry winced slightly seeing that panic. He had tried to avoid that, but...well...that would have been impossible. He reached for her. “It’s alright,” he tried to reassure her. “It’s only hair dye. It could be worse.” Chloe hadn’t woken up with any wounds or life threatening injuries. Thank god. With the way her Dreams went, that was always a distinct possibility. “We can fix it.” Even though Henry really did kind of like Chloe’s new look. She was still beautiful. She’d always be beautiful.
It was going to cause a brief panic when you wake up and your hair is a whole other color. Chloe didn’t expect her hair to be what color it currently was in the Dreams. And it didn’t look good in her Dreams, so she didn’t think it would look good here either. It was incredibly tempting to dash out of bed and head into the bathroom to check her appearance, but she didn’t want to be that girl. “It’ll take a lot of time and money to get this back to blonde,” Chloe pointed out with a frown as she reached up to run her fingers through it, “And what if it doesn’t change? What if I spend all that time and then the next day it is black again? Uggggh.”
Henry had never dyed his hair and he had no idea the effort and money that went into hair dying. Chloe had a point too. What if she sat in a salon chair for...however long it took...and shelled out whatever cash to get her hair back to normal only to wake up tomorrow with it black once more? All that time and energy wasted.
The corners of Henry’s mouth pulled down a little. The Dreams were a bitch. Chloe’s powers and Henry’s hauntings made life difficult enough, but they still tried to make the best of their situations. Some days were easier than others, yes, but for Henry there was always the certainty that no matter what they would make it through. Changing Chloe’s hair color...it was as if the Dreams were reminding them just who was in control. Well, fuck that.
“I guess we have no way of knowing if it will stay that way or not,” Henry admitted. “I’m just glad that it’s your hair and not...like...an injury or something. And it may not mean much - it’s your hair, but...I kinda like it.”
Chloe would most likely give it a couple days and then if it doesn’t just disappear she’ll figure something out. She was already trying to concoct a lie about why her hair was suddenly dark when she went to work later. It wouldn’t be hard to say she wanted to try something out or maybe someone had asked her to dye her hair for a role in their movie. She didn’t act a lot, but she was always willing to help out her friends when they needed it.
“You always have a way of putting things into perspective and making me feel silly for freaking out,” Chloe pointed out with a wrinkle of her nose and reached out to playfully smack his arm. Making her remember that at least it’s just hair and not that she woke up with a broken bone. That was definitely a possibility to happen in her Dreams, but thankfully this time. Her mind was taken out of her thoughts when she heard him declare he kind of liked her hair, “Oh really? You kind of like it? You are such a strange man.” The wrinkle on her nose went away as her face relaxed into a smile and she rolled over to kiss him.
Henry smiled into her kiss. “Yeah, I’m pretty strange,” he said softly against her lips. “But that’s what you love about me.” He had a few minutes before he really needed to be up for work. Not that his boss at the studio really cared when he showed up, so long as he showed up and put in a day’s worth of work. So long as his boss’s boss wasn’t lurking around, life at the studio was pretty easy going. So Henry snuggled down amongst the bed linens again, his arms around Chloe. He kissed the top of her head. Her hair was still silky and smooth and smelled of her shampoo.
“That is very true, but now you have to explain why you like my hair goth black,” Chloe commented with a chuckle as he snuggled up against her. If he was going to get this started then they wouldn’t be leaving the bed for quite a while. She reached her hands up to caress his chest as she wiggled against him with a mischievous grin. “And don’t go startin’ something you can’t finish because you’re going to have to leave for work.”
A little color flushed Henry’s face. “I have to explain myself, huh?” Well that seemed fair. He stroked her side lovingly and looked thoughtful. “Well, I could say that you’d look good no matter what, but that sounds kind of like a cop-out, even if it is true.” He smirked. It was true as far as he was concerned. She could dye her hair neon pink and she’d still look fabulous. “I don’t know. I guess it’s kind of different and a little mysterious. And you know me, I can’t let go of something mysterious.” He smirked at her. He had been the one to go crawling through weird holes after all. This should come as no surprise.
With Chloe at his side, her hands on his bare chest, the thought of having to get out of bed and drag himself to work was so unappealing. Her hands felt that good. “Don’t worry, I got a little time,” he smirked at her.
“It is a cop-out,” she quickly countered and fixed him with a look before smiling. He was absolutely adorable and she was so thrilled to have found a man who adored her as much as she adored him. They were sickening cute and she honestly didn’t mind it one bit especially when they were all alone. The comment about being mysterious made Chloe laugh and she blushed, “Oh really? A little mysterious? I think that is a decent compliment - you do love doing silly things that involve solving mysteries.” It was part of the reason that she liked him so much.
“Perfect,” she purred at him as she situated herself underneath him, “I think we can easily waste some time this morning together.” With that she leaned up to give him a kiss and hopefully start their morning off the right way. It would be worth it to show up a little late if she got to spend this time with Henry.
