Anne was very much looking forward to an evening with Jim. He was exciting and handsome and made her feel alive. She had the lights set low, music playing softly in the background and everything set up for dinner. Checking herself in the mirror one last time as she heard the knock on the door to signal his arrival.
Jim was looking forward to seeing Anne, but then he usually did. She was gorgeous and smart, and a lot of fun. He'd dressed up nice, with a couple buttons undone and his hair dashingly tousled. He felt like he'd dodged something by insisting on take-out - a home-cooked meal edged into territory where things could get emotionally intimate and he wasn't entirely sure they were on the same page where that was concerned. At least he knew he wasn’t on that page.
But take-out could put off that conversation for a little while. Knocking on the door, Jim put on his best smile.
Smiling brightly, Anne opened the door to her rather lavish penthouse apartment and greeted the very handsome man at her door. “Well hello stranger, come on in,” she stepped aside, biting her lip and tilting her head as she watched him pass. “Can I get you a glass of wine or something?”
“A glass sounds good.” Jim winked at her, coming inside after she invited him in and kissing her on the cheek. “But are you sure you should let strangers come in so easily? At least without a proper greeting?”
“Are you saying that I should frisk you before letting you in?” Anne asked, leaning back against the door she had just closed and looking at him coyly. “Or perhaps a strip search to make sure you aren't carrying anything to cause me harm?” she pushed off the door and sauntered up to him, sliding her hands up the front of his jacket as she caught sight of the hint of chest peeking through the undone shirt buttons. Reaching up on her toes, she kissed him languidly and began running her hands all over his chest before pulling away. “There, frisk complete, I feel much safer,” she grinned and winked at him as she pulled away and headed to get them some wine from the kitchen.
“Mmm...I like this bolder you.” At least he didn’t think there was anything causing her to act more forward than she wanted to. Jim kissed her back, wrapping his arms around her for the duration then letting her go so she could get the wine. “But you missed the guns.”
He flexed playfully and knew at least one friend who’d get a kick out of that pun.
“Bolder me is my new year's resolution. I need to be more assertive to get what I want,” Anne shrugged innocently as she poured two glasses for them both.
“I missed a spot? What a shame, guess that means it'll have to be a strip search anyway,” she moved over to hand him a glass which she handed to him, she clinked her glass against his, locking eyes with him over the rim of her glass as she took a slow sip of her wine. It was contrary for her to be like this, her heart beating a thousand times a second, or so it felt, but exhilarating too.
“Assertive is a good thing,” Jim agreed. He clinked his glass against hers. “ To boldness and self-esteem.”
Both things were hot, but Jim was happy for more than that reason. He liked seeing his friends and those he cared about improve on themselves, as much as he liked to improve on himself. “And strip searches.”
“To boldness,” Anne grinned up at him and sipped her wine glass again. “I say we order food and then I make sure you’re not carrying any...concealed weapons,” she teased, biting her bottom lip naughtily. “I was thinking Thai food, that ok with you?” she asked.
“Thai sounds wonderful. A great way to start the new year.” Jim moved to take a seat on Anne’s couch. “I was actually there a few years ago. There’s a couple places in town where they make a meal like you’d get back home, so to speak.”
“Excellent,” Anne smiled, picking up her tablet from the coffee table which already had the ordering page open on it and handing it to him. “I’ve already chosen my order, just add yours and click send then it should be here in 30-45mins,” she told him, slowly sauntering past him and over to the stereo, she turned on some romantic jazz at a low volume.
She was wearing a little black dress, quite different to what she was used to, but fairly empowering all the same, expensive thigh high stockings and black Louboutin heels. Peering over her shoulder at him coquettishly, she sipped her wine as she waited for him to finish.
“Thanks.” He already had an idea of what he wanted, though his eyes lingered on her legs as he took the phone to key in his order. She was beautiful, and wearing all the right things and giving all the right signals. Jim held the phone back out. “New Years treat you well?”
Moving back to stand in front of him, she took her phone from him slowly, fingers brushing and eyes locking. “I suppose,” she shrugged slightly. “I was a little lonely,” she smiled at him. “You?”
“I made do.” Lots of glitter, some alcohol. Then the days after he’d actually spent more time by himself and reflecting. He reached for her hand, trying to pull her close again and flashed her a cocky grin. “I always have a certain ritual, but I can’t always remember what it is.”
Anne smiled and took his hand, stepping closer to him. “A ritual? For new years?” she asked, scrunching her nose up a little bit. “I take it from the lack of memory that copious amounts of alcohol are involved?” she asked playfully.
“Copius. The headache the next day was epic, but by all accounts it was worth it.” At least that’s what he’d been told and found out when he’d cleaned up his instagram account that morning. Jim rubbed his thumb over her knuckles, then tugged lightly.
Anne grinned and let herself be tugged into his lap, holding her glass aloft to avoid spilling it on them. Laughing lightly, she found herself sat across his knees and an arm around his shoulders. “Well, hello there,” she grinned at him.
“Hello there.” Jim grinned at her, his arm looping around her waist. He didn’t mind if a little drink spilled. There were always fun ways to clean it up, especially with a pretty lady. “So what are your plans for this better year?”
“To enjoy myself more. To not put so much stock in other people’s opinions or worry about what they’re thinking. To grow my business with Constance and take more opportunities when they present themselves to me,” she grinned at him before taking a sip of her wine. “And you?” she asked, reaching forward to put her glass down on the coffee table in front of them.
“All good things. Life isn’t life if you don’t enjoy yourself. Stop and smell the flowers.” And he was serious about that. Jim had always had a fondness for flora on his missions. Every planet was unique. “
He ran his hand up her back. “Enjoy myself. Do positive actions to help people.” He winked. “Kiss at least ten different people.”
Anne’s heart stopped for a brief second as she heard Jim speak. Running her eyes over his face briefly, she bit her lip and looked off to the side as if examining the wine glass she had just put down. “Kissing at least ten different people?” she asked quietly. “And uh, how close are you to that minimum target?” she asked, curious but still dreading the answer.
“Not quite halfway there.” Jim tilted his head to the side, eyeing her and feeling a sudden sense of trepidation. “Anne, are you all right?”
Stupid question, but one he had to ask.
“Five,” Anne repeated quietly, more to herself than him. Four other women, she thought to herself, starting to feel more than a little bit foolish. Of course he has more than one girl he sees, he’s basically the most handsome man you’ve ever seen, she berated herself mentally. “And uh...have you done more? Than kissing?” she asked him, dreading the answer.
Jim had no way to really answer that. Well, he would with the truth, but it was the kind of truth that was going to hurt and he realized he probably could have approached this conversation in a better way than starting it with an off-handed joke.
"Yes. Not with all of them." Some friends had benefits, some friends didn't. He reached to touch her shoulder.
Anne leaned away to take a longer sip of her drink. Is that what she wanted? To be a notch on his bedpost? That wasn’t exactly how she hoped things would be. Could she be in that sort of relationship? Where faithfulness wasn’t a requirement? Anne knew that she had no desire to be with anyone else, but could she be happy just being with him in the moment and damn everything, everyone else? She’d never been a ‘loose’ woman by any stretch of the imagination, could she see that changing now? What do they call it? A no strings attached relationship?
She looked back at him, wide-eyed and considering, before deciding to lay her cards on the table and dropping her gaze from his. “I’ve never done that sort of thing before. I’m not…” she took a breath. “I’m not sure that I...could. Be involved but not…involved if you know what I mean?” she told him honestly, looking up at him with big, innocent eyes.
Ultimately, Jim knew there weren't many people, man or woman, who could properly keep up with him. And he wanted to be able to explore the world, maybe even the galaxy eventually. There weren’t many he knew who met that need.
He knew there were things he couldn't give her because of that. Jim put his hand on Anne’s cheek. “I couldn’t blame you or be upset if you couldn’t do that. Not everyone is cut out for that, and I’m sorry if I hurt you.”
He had a cheeky grin on his face. “But I would miss this.”
Anne couldn’t help a tiny smile as she leaned into his hand, closing her eyes as she turned ever so slightly to press a kiss against his palm. “I would miss this too…” she murmured quietly, longingly as she cupped his hand against her cheek.
Against his better judgement, Kirk pulled her face down to kiss her. She was soft and tasted so sweet that it was hard to resist. It was selfish of him. But that didn’t stop him from kissing her, or pulling her closer. Maybe once more.
Eyes fluttering shut, Anne let herself be pulled further into his intoxicating embrace. He really was made for kissing and she felt herself slip under his spell. Pressing closer to him with a soft moan as he kissed her, she raised her hand and ran it through his thick hair, blunt nails running along his scalp.
He grinned into the kiss, threading his fingers into Anne’s hair. He let the kiss deepen, his other hand rubbing down her back to pull her even closer. She might think he was made for kissing, but he thought she was just as made for kissing as anyone he’d ever had the pleasure of kissing. Jim kissed her like she was the only woman in the world. A nice little lie.
Letting out a little sigh against his mouth, Anne was pliant in his arms and let herself be turned so he was pressing her back against the cushions. Her free hand clutched at the front of his shirt and the fingers still in his hair tightened, pulling slightly on the strands in their grasp. She simply let herself get carried away on a wave of lust and desire for the man above her, forgetting her earlier concerns however briefly.
Jim moved his lips and teeth across Anne’s neck, tasting her skin. He hands roamed and he let himself get carried away as well on that very same wave. There was too much fabric between them and he wanted to remind Anne of the electricity between their skin.
Anne gasped in his arms at the feel of his lips and teeth against her skin and clenched her fingers in his hair. The hand previously clutching his shirt moved over his shoulder and down the back of his collar to touch his skin and draw him closer. “Mmm, Jim,” she breathed, writhing against him as he continued to work his magic on her.
He murmured her name in return, lifting his head to draw her into another long, searing kiss. It was a bad idea to do this. To let this happen again. But there were some times and situations where Jim’s judgement could get impaired, and this was one of them. He hoped she’d hold on real tight, because he was going to take her to the stars.
Letting herself be swept away by his persuasive kiss, Anne clutched at his neck and shoulders desperately. She had been alone for a long time and it was nice to indulge in the comfort of a man’s attention. Especially one as handsome and charming as Jim. She lost herself to the feel of his lips and hands while bringing one of her hands down to the top most button that was done up. She unbuttoned it and moved on to the next one, and the next while raising her leg to hook around his leg. Her skirt shifted up and she could feel the cooler air from the room on the heated bare skin above her stockings as it was exposed.
Jim was a fan of stockings and skirts, his hands running up her legs and his fingers teasing as the exposed skin. He had no intention of moving from this spot, or letting her move from this spot. Pushing her skirt up further he nibbled on her lip, then lifted his head to look at her. "You sure you're okay with this?"
Anne was breathing heavily as he stopped to look up at her. “Jim, please, don't ask questions. Just...make me forget, if only for a short time,” she murmured the last part quietly, running a finger lightly down the side of his face.
“Okay,” He said, leaning down and kissing her again. If Jim was good at anything, it was making people forget for at least a little while.
