WHO:Joan Watson & Kate Bishop WHEN: backdated: pre-Christmas WHERE: Department Store WHAT: Random Run In WARNINGS: None STATUS: Complete
Now that Kate was a married woman. She supposed it was her job to decorate the house for Christmas. She’d never really bought into “deck the halls” or whatever, though her Sorority sisters got REALLY into it. Kate was always involved with the Secret Santa drawing so she’d only have to buy one gift, instead of one for each girl in her House. And it was always a hefty price tag, too--but that was Daddy’s money. It didn’t really matter.
This year, she had a few people to buy for. Pietro, Steve (and Peggy), Veronica, Frank. And Clint, of course. So she was wandering through Target, looking at the different things. Jesus, what to get for her friends to show them how much she cared? She wasn’t that kind of person. She was totally April Ludgate from Parks and Rec.
...what did April get for her friends and family on Christmas?
Shopping wise, Joan didn’t have a lot to get. She’d considered a little something for John, but been stumped at just what to get him. In the end she opted to just get gifts for her family to send to them, and a small thing to send to her previous partners in New York. She still wasn’t sure where Sherlock was, but she would put something aside for him, something just as eccentric as he was.
Which meant she was just browsing through things to give to her mother, she’d gotten her a scarf the previous year, and a handbag for her birthday this year, which meant she could get neither of those things. Which narrowed things a lot, but Joan was determined -after buying three books, two new skirts, a pair of boots and sunglasses for herself, that she was getting her mother something today.
Kate sighed as she turned down another aisle, wondering if getting Veronica a new bathmat would be an appropriate present, when she bumped into someone she didn’t see. “Oh, sorry. I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
Joan narrowly managed to avoid dropping the bottle of bubble bath she had for her friend Kirsty, letting a towel set drop to the floor rather than risk a broken bottle, “It’s okay,” even frazzled, she wasn’t overly likely to snap at anyone for a honest mistake, “everything is fine.”
She might’ve at least sighed if she’d dropped her bottle but there was no harm in the towels falling. “Nothing to worry about.”
“It’s that time of year.” Kate said, bending down to pick up the towel. It seemed like everyone was at their wit’s end lately! She gave the other woman a smile, nodding to the bubble bath. “That stuff smells like heaven. I love it.” She thought maybe she deserved to go home and have a bath in the stuff after all this shopping nonsense was through. Maybe drag Clint into the tub. Hmm. They should get a bigger tub.
Joan glanced at the bottle, then back to the girl with a smile, “Good, my friend is obsessed with the pamper phase of her break-up, she’s into her relaxing baths that last a few hours from what I’ve heard.” Kirsty was staying with a mutual friend too, and apparently Debra needed to inform Joan of all the time that Kirsty spent ‘self-loving’ in the bath.
Joan disagreed with the full disclosure thing. “I’m more of a shower person, so I’m really winging it here.” She should’ve gotten a basket, grabbed something to put all this nonsense into.
“Aww, poor thing.” Kate nodded. She’d totally been there with her friends, too. Though, Kate herself wasn’t really into the wallowing in the bath way of dealing with her problems. She much preferred to hit things. But to each her own.
“Yeah, I think you’ve made a good choice there. Your friend like things a bit sweeter or more floral? Because there’s a great scrub over here that’s a bit more on the floral side.” Kate motioned to another section of the aisle. Hey, though Kate wasn’t the most girly girl in the world, she had to scrub her feet with the sugar stuff, too.
“That’s not a bad idea,” at the very least, Joan was of the opinion that Kirsty could always re-gift, Joan wouldn’t feel bad about that in the least. “She probably likes anything that’ll make her feel pampered.” And that would round up Kirsty’s present too.
“Thanks,” Joan offered a small smile, making sure everything was balanced better in her arms.
“Hey, who doesn’t?” Kate said, giving the other woman a little smile. She moved down the aisle a bit to point out the sugar scrub, and then paused for a moment. Maybe she should grab some herself. It was probably time for an all-out grooming. Her husband would likely appreciate it. “You’re welcome. Anytime. I should probably grab some of this stuff for myself,” she added, though she grabbed a different scent. Citrus this time. Something different.
Going with the floral one, because hey, Joan had no idea, but Kirsty liked flowers so going with it, Joan offered the other woman another smile, “Well, it was a good thing we bumped then.” And Joan was officially finished in this shop before she dropped more stuff -note to self, next time basket, regardless of what she thought when she came in. “I’ll let you go, but um.. Have a lovely Christmas.”
Season of good will and everything.
“Merry Christmas.” Kate said, giving the woman a smile. “And Happy New Year.” She turned to wander the store some more, looking for gift inspiration. It was going to take a lot of thought and exploring to finally fill out her Christmas List.
