Will entered the bookshop and gave Capable a nod who informed him Tessa was in the stockroom unboxing the latest delivery of books for the store. With a grin and a ‘Thanks’ he headed back there to surprise his girlfriend, sneaking up behind her he slipped his arms around her waist and pressed a kiss to her neck, “Hey beautiful” he said with a smile, “Get anything good?” he asked her resting his chin on her shoulder as he looked down at the box she was emptying.
Tessa loved new stock day. She immersed herself in each new title; the look, the smell, the feel. She often spent far too long in here on new stock day. She never even heard Will’s approach and nearly leapt out of her skin as Will snuck up behind her. She put her hand to her mouth as she yelped in surprise. Feeling the kiss on her neck, she lightly smacked at his hands around her waist as she laughed and tilted her head to the side. “Hello handsome,” she grinned, covering his hands with her own.
“I think so, a couple of new authors. This one looks good,” she said, holding up a book with a blue cover. “And this looks like a series I need to catch up on!” she told him as she pointed to another pile of books.
“You know one of these days you should close the shop on delivery day because you, me and piles of new books give me wicked ideas” he grinned at her, pressing a kiss to her lips when she turned her head to look at him, “Ideas your colleagues don’t need to witness” he teased her.
“I can’t wait for this semester to be over, I need to read for pleasure again. The course isn’t setting the most interesting books for reading material” he sighed, “How about taking a break to plan Valentine’s? I’ll help you unpack the rest later” he promised.
“William! In my storeroom? And defile all these precious books? Really?” Tessa chuckled after he kissed her, raising her hand back to cup his cheek.
“Aww, poor baby, syllabus too boring for you?” she teased, resting her head back on his shoulder and nuzzling into his neck. “I can always take a break for you, did you have any thoughts? she smiled and let out a contented sigh as she rested against him.
Will laughed, “You and books? What is there not to love about that?” he asked her nuzzling her nose with his.
“Mmm” he nodded, he didn’t like being bored especially when it came to reading. “I was thinking maybe somewhere away from crowds and people, a woodland hut or something like that?”
“You’re incorrigible,” Tessa grinned in response with a little laugh and pressing a quick kiss to his throat. “Mmm, a forest getaway. Just the three of us,” she spoke quietly and smiled as they started to sway gently on the spot. “I can just see it now. A little log cabin in the middle of the woods, set on the shore of our own personal lake. We could sit around a fire and toast marshmallows...go swimming…” she trailed off suggestively, biting her lower lip as she thought about it.
“And you wouldn’t have me any other way” Will said assuredly, “Exactly, it would be perfect right?” he said, happy to have found something that captured Tessa’s imagination. He had hoped she’d like it as much as he did, “I just think time for the three of us away from the general hustle bustle of everything” especially since he was aware Jem might be overwhelmed after being back at school.
“You’re right, I wouldn’t,” Tessa replied, sighing against him. “Although maybe a little tidier,” she teased, grinning as she pressed her nose against the skin of her neck. “I agree, I think it would be refreshing and rejuvenating for all of us,” she sighed. “It would have to be fairly close by, we don’t want to spend too much of our time away travelling there, should we put a post on the Net to see if anyone has any ideas? Or do you know anyone who might know of anything?” she asked.
“Creative minds are rarely tidy” he told her with a grin before considering her question, “Leave it with me for a while. I’m sure I can come up with something. I don’t want to risk word of it getting to Jem if we can help it” And even filtering it away from their boyfriend didn’t eliminate the risk of someone saying something.
“Ok, so long as it doesn’t interrupt your studies,” Tessa replied, patting his hands where they rested on her stomach as she stood up straight. “I don’t want to hear any stories of you Googling places to stay when you’re supposed to be reading one of those boring texts you told me about,” she grinned, wagging her finger playfully in his direction as she moved to reach for the books again.
“I can multi task” he assured her before rolling his eyes, “I’ve read most of the boring books, now I get to talk and write about them. Yay” he said it in the most unenthusiastic way. “Now tell me what to unpack and hope I don’t get too distracted by new stories” he requested kissing her neck again before releasing her to actually help.
