Irisa was excited to have her friends home. Despite spending the holidays with Integra and Alucard, she missed her best friend. Having gone to bed before they returned home, Irisa had been up before either Myrcella or Jeremy and decided to make them a cooked breakfast. To the best of her ability, which wasn’t much. A cooked breakfast, orange juice and tea all prepared by the time Myrcella appeared. Practically bouncing on her toes behind the breakfast bar, she smiled, “Good morning! Welcome back!”
“Morning” Myrcella smiled, moving to hug her best friend, “It’s so good to see you. I missed you while we were away. Was everything okay with Integra and Alucard? I’m so glad they asked you to stay with them” Myrcella had worried her friend would be alone so when she’d gotten a text asking if it was okay to take Dragon to Alucard’s she’d been reassured Irisa wouldn’t be lonely.
“Welcome home!” Irisa beamed as she returned Myrcella’s hug. “I made breakfast!” she stepped back and presented it with a wave of her arm. “Sit and I’ll bring it over,” she gestured to the dining room table and hurried over to pick up Myrcella’s tray. “Everything was fine with Alucard and Integra,” she told her, placing the tray in front of her and sliding into the seat next to her. “And Alucard loved Dragon,” she laughed.
“That is so sweet of you, you didn’t have to do that” Myrcella said, moving to sit when she was told to. Jeremy was still sleeping since he’d been the one to drive them back from the airport the night before and she didn’t want to wake him. “Really? I did not imagine that. He doesn’t seem like a dog person but I am sure Dragon loved the attention”
“That's ok, I wanted to and I'll cook Jeremy some when he gets up too,” Irisa smiled. “It was really funny! Alucard turned into a bit of a puppy himself,” she grinned, knowing that was close enough to the truth. She wasn’t sure if Myrcella knew the...eccentricity of Alucard and Integra. “He played and played and played and then slept like nothing could wake him,” she laughed.
“Oh that’s so sweet” Myrcella said smiling brightly, “I’m so glad they didn’t mind him being there. Thank you so much for looking after him, he always enjoys his time with you” Myrcella adored Dragon and the feeling was mutual so it meant a lot that she had someone she could trust with him when she went away.
“That's ok, he's pretty easy to look after,” Irisa shrugged. “So tell me about it, what was it like?” she asked.
“Well for me it was home” she grinned, “Nothing much has really changed. My mum rented us a penthouse suite to watch the fireworks from on New Year which was fun. Much less crowded and warmer too. Other than that we did all the tourist things I hadn’t really done before just to make sure Jeremy got the whole experience. So like Tower of London, Madam Tussauds, changing of the guard at the palace, things like that”
“That sounds so awesome! And uh...how did Jeremy get on with your family and stuff?” Irisa asked, moving to the toaster and putting a slice in for herself.
“It was better than I thought it would be” Myrcella admitted, “I thought for sure mum was going to make me and Jeremy stay in separate rooms but thankfully she wasn’t that bad. And most of the time Joffrey stayed out of the way” she added with a smile, having already told Irisa how awful her older brother was.
“You have told her that you live with each other, right?” Irisa joked as she grabbed a plate and knife from around the kitchen. “Joffrey’s the weird one, right?” she frowned trying to remember back to when Myrcella had told her a bit about her family.
“Of course but mother can be...frustrating” Myrcella said, “She still likes to think of me as a little girl” Laughing Myrcella nodded, “Yep, older brother. Mean and generally nasty. Tommen is my younger brother and he’s sweet and kind”
“So basically, your parents raised Joffrey, realised what they’d done wrong and then did the exact opposite when it came to you and Tommen,” Irisa replied playfully as she fished the bread out of the toaster and scraped butter on her toast. “What do your brothers do then? Do they have jobs?” she asked, coming back to the table with her plate of toast.
“I wish it was that simple. I think whatever is wrong with Joff is just the way he is” Myrcella sighed, “Tommen wants to be a zookeeper so he’s studying for that and Joff is doing as little as possible. Mum and dad just let him do what he wants as long as he stays out of the way and out of trouble”
“Sounds like he’s living the dream,” Irisa remarked around a mouthful of toast. “And what do your mom and dad do again?” she asked, taking another bite.
“Dad runs a lot of businesses and mum enjoys her lifestyle. She comes from a family who have pretty much always had money so she’s never really needed a job” Myrcella admitted, “She never quite understood why I wanted to do what I do” But Myrcella wasn’t the sort of person who wanted to live off her family's money, she had always wanted to make her own way and mark on the world.
“So you get your business smarts from your dad then?” Irisa asked with a grin. “I can’t imagine what it must be like to come from that sort of background,” she shook her head and took another bite of her toast. “I think I got the best out of all of you though,” she grinned proudly at her best friend.
“If I do it’s about the only thing I got from him” Myrcella said somewhat bitterly before shaking her head of that, “Aww thank you. I’m glad you think so. I try not to come across as too entitled, my Uncle Renly helped there”
“You definitely don’t, entitled people and I don’t tend to get along so watch out if that Joffrey of yours ever comes to visit,” Irisa winked at her best friend.
“I kind of hope he does, I'd love to see you kick his arse” Myrcella winked back, now that was a happy thought.
