New year, new Liv. Well technically it was new brain, new Liv, which was really nothing new. She was currently way too into skateboarding. But that’s what happened when you consumed the brain of a skater. It wasn’t affecting her day to day life too much. Not like some of the brains did. For the most part she was just spending her spare time at the skatepark.
Today however she was doing something different. She was meeting Lily after work for drinks. It had been way too long since she hung out with her redheaded, witchy, friend. Dressed in dark jeans and a maroon top Liv sat at the bar ordering herself a jalapeno margarita while she waited for Lily to arrive.
Drinks was just what she needed now that school was back up and going and she felt like she barely go to enjoy Winter Break really. Add in the stress of the job over break where the influx of people only rose because parents needed to get their kids out of the house so museums were a good spot. Thankfully Liv had texted her to get together for drinks and that was her saving grace for the evening as she made her way to the bar that Liv suggested.
Pushing the door in to enter she scanned the room for her friend and spotted that platinum blonde hair of hers. With a smile Lily made her way over and sat down beside her, “What disgusting drink did you order this time?” The last time they had gotten together she had ordered a bloody mary with a lot of hot sauce in it. It sounded and smelled disgusting.
“I have certain tastes,” Liv replied. Or more specifically she could only taste spicy. There was a reason she always carried hot sauce with her. “But you might like this one better. Jalapeno margarita if you want to try it.” And she hadn’t even dumped any hot sauce into it either… well yet at least. But Lily could always order her own if she wanted.
“I know you do and they’re very odd,” Lily pointed out with a laugh, “I wonder how many times the bartenders go into the back and gossip about what weird drink they made you. And I’ll give it a sip.” She would never willingly order something like that, but she might as well give it a try when offered it. Once settled into her seat she flagged down the bartender to ask for a more normal mango margarita, “So, how are things?”
“I’m sure they are use to my taste by now,” Liv laughed passing the drink over to Lily to try. Zombieism couldn’t be transferred through saliva so she had nothing to worry about. “Things are pretty good. Just been busy with work, skating,” (her current brain obsession) “and Lowell. What about you?”
“Perhaps, but it’s still odd,” Lily pointed out with a laugh as she took a sip and promptly wrinkled her nose, “So gross. And why are you skating? Is that skateboarding or roller skating because I’d be down for the second one. And Lowell? I don’t think you’ve told me about him yet. As for me I’m back in class and I just moved in with Sirius.”
“Skateboarding. But you can still join in.” Granted Liv hadn’t seen anyone on rollerskates at the skate part but whatever. They could go up and down the streets or something. “It’s a brain thing,” she explained.
“Wait what? You moved in with Sirius? That’s huge news.” Liv could hardly believe she was just hearing about it now. “Lowell’s my boyfriend.”
“Skateboarding….I am no good at that, I can tell you that much, but rollerskating would be kind of fun. Did you ever go to those roller rinks as a kid?” it was still baffling to her that Liv’s personality changed based on the brain she ate, but at least she wasn’t a crazy zombie killer.
“And I did. It is very big news. It was a little weird having his best friend and my dream husband move out, but it’s for the best,” Lily was glad that James was okay with everything that was going on. It didn’t seem like he knew everything that happened in the dreams, “Oh! The guy from Halloween? I’m glad that it’s working out for you two, you’re cute together.”
“Yeah. We had like school fundraisers there.” When she was in elementary school. Not middle or high school. “But we should go. This week!” Before her brain wore off and she had no more interest in it.
“He’s best friends with your dream husband?” How complicated. Liv didn’t have a husband in her dreams. Just an ex fiance and two other boyfriends. It was weird, having a whole other dating life in her sleep. “Yup. That’s him. Thanks.”
“Sure, we can go. Just let me know when and I can meet you. And yeah, they’re best friends in my dreams too. Nothing happens between Sirius and I in the dreams, but it is happening here in the real world,” it got a bit confusing sometimes, but Lily could easily keep the two of them separate. It wasn’t so bad because she didn’t interact with James much in this world, “And he’s in your dreams too?”
“That’s kind of good though. That you know the feelings aren’t dream bleedover.” Liv worried about that herself a bit with Lowell. Just like she worried that they were together just because they were zombies. More so in the dreams than here. Since she started dating him before he was a zombie. “Yeah, he actually died in my dreams,” Liv admitted taking a long sip of her drink. “But I don’t think he has even dreamed about meeting me yet.”
“Yeah, it helps makes things not so awkward. I’m quite happy here,” Lily finally got her drink and she took a long sip of it. It definitely tasted better than Liv’s drink. However when Liv explained about Lowell her eyebrows raised and a look of concern appeared, “What? He died? And he hasn’t dreamt about you? Did you tell him that he dies?”
“No,” Liv admitted shaking her head. Hell she hadn’t even told him he was a zombie. She figured he would dream it first like she had then she was going to tell him about herself and him. But instead he just woke up one. “How do you even tell someone something like that? Especially if they don’t even know you’re in their dreams yet?”
“That is definitely a question I don’t have an answer to and that is why we drink,” Lily lifted her glass and held it out to Liv in a sort of weird cheers. There really wasn’t much else they could talk about with that because she wouldn’t be able to help Liv with her situation, but she might try as they continued to drink.
“That’ll work,” Liv agreed with a smirk lifting up her own glass to meet the cheers before taking another long gulp. This place was just too weird. Sometimes, well most times, drinking was the only way to get through it.
