Simon was still getting used to the fact that not only did it snow in California now, but just a week earlier he and his band mates had seen the Misfit Toys outside a club they had just finished playing at. Sure, most of the band was pretty drunk by that time so they weren’t even sure what they had actually seen, but Simon would recognize that polka dotted elephant anywhere.
“The snow reminds me of winter in New York,” Simon said as he, Isabelle, Magnus and Alec walked down the street after leaving a cafe, where he’d only had a cup of tea while the others ate.
“We never got much snow in Vancouver,” Magnus as, gazing up at the flakes as they fell, “And it’s too warm in Taiwan.” While it certainly wasn’t normal for it to snow in Orange County, Magnus enjoyed it.
“At least we don’t miss New York snow as much when it snows here. I do miss the ice skating though, there is nothing like ice skating in New York with all the decorations around and the giant tree on one side of the rink” Izzy said, tucked close to Simon’s side as they walked.
“And if we did miss the snow in New York, my amazing husband could just portal us there,” Alec pointed out. He was still getting used to calling Magnus his ‘husband’ and also, emphasizing the fact that they were, now, married. Alec gave Magnus’ hand a small squeeze as they walked through the snow.
Magnus grinned as he squeezed Alec’s hand back, “I sure can. In fact, we should plan a trip somewhere soon. Maybe somewhere tropical. I certainly wouldn’t mind lounging around on the beach with this one.” He bumped Alec’s shoulder as they continued walking.
“Now that would be fun. I’ve never been anywhere tropical.” Not for the first time, Simon was glad for the fact that he was a Daylighter and he hadn’t even had to bite Jace to become one. “When everyone else was going to Cancun for Spring Break, I was at band practice.” Not that Simon regretted that or anything.
“The most handy brother-in-law ever” Izzy said with a grin at Magnus, she loved hearing Alec say the word ‘husband’ still with that mix of pride and awe and of course love. “Then somewhere tropical is definitely next on the agenda. What about going somewhere for New Year?” she suggested.
“Cause going on a Mediterranean honeymoon wasn’t enough?” Alec questioned, looking at Magnus. They had certainly done a lot of lounging by the pool and the sea. He gave a chuckle at Simon’s comment, “Well, Cancun will always be there...but I vote to not go there cause it’s super touristy.” At least, that’s what he had read online and he didn’t want to be somewhere that was overly crowded. “But a New Year’s trip could be fun. I’m definitely in.”
“I will take any excuse to lay on the beach with you and get tan.” In fact Magnus had come back from their honeymoon with a fantastic tan, “Although, we’d have to make sure Clary is covered from head to toe with an umbrella and floppy hat so that she wouldn’t burn.” He smirked as she glanced over at Izzy and Simon.
“She does have the ginger curse, doesn’t she?” Unfortunately for Simon, he didn’t seem to tan any longer as a result of being a vampire, which kind of sucked, because he too usually got a pretty good tan in the summer, but not any longer. “Or we could even go somewhere like Greece or something like that. I’ve kind of always wants to cliff dive like they do in all the movies.”
“Laying around in the sun sounds like a perfect holiday to me” Izzy said, it would certainly make a change from being around here at the moment with the snow and crazy things that seemed to come along with it. “Oh cliff diving? I love that idea” she told Simon brightly.
“I’m sure that she could probably make a rune that would help with tanning,” Alec offered. He wondered if a healing rune would help a sunburn. Perhaps, he’d have to test out that theory sometime. “Cliffdiving would be fun,” he admitted.
“That’s true. I forgot about that.” That was Clary’s talent; creating new runes and Magnus was sure that if some sort of sunscreen Rune could be created, Clary would be the one to do it. “But I think I’ll start looking into villas to rent in Greece.” He smirked at his three companions.
As they continued walking, Simon kicked at a bit of snow, scattering it across the sidewalk then glanced over at Alec, “Hey, Alec, after Christmas, wanna get in some archery practice?” Simon couldn’t spar with Alec and Izzy the way he had before he’d woken up with The Mark, but there were still things he could do with them that still constituted self defense practice and considering he and Alec both had a knack for archery, it made sense that they would do that.
Greece sounded good to Izzy, especially since the weather here had gone so cold. Somewhere warm and relatively exotic would be perfect. She smiled as Alec and Simon organised archery practice, she was so glad everybody got along. It made things so much easier.
Alec slowed his walking for a moment to answer Simon, and to not step on the snow that the other had scattered. He was about to answer but suddenly, he found himself seeing Simon in a different light; his sister’s boyfriend was looking rather attractive and Alec was finding that he felt the urge to kiss the other. All other thoughts vanished, not even the fact that he was married and his husband was close by could stop it. Before he realized it, he pulled Simon close and gave him a deep kiss.
Simon had never kissed another guy before or really ever thought about it before, but as Alec turned to him, all Simon could think about was kissing the Shadowhunter and before he knew it, he was doing exactly that. The fact that both his girlfriend and Alec’s husband were both right there should have occurred to him, but as he found himself kissing Alec back, there was nothing else on his mind exact Alec.
“I’d like to be told when this practice is going to happen because Alexander using a bow and arrow is extremely….” The rest of Magnus’ sentence died on his tongue as he watched as Alec and Simon began kissing right there on the sidewalk. Sure, this wasn’t the first time Magnus had watched as Alec had kissed someone else, but with Dorian the situation had been extremely different.
As his gaze moved towards Izzy, for her reaction, something else caught his attention and he frowned slightly as his yellow, cat eyes landed on a peculiar piece of mistletoe that appeared to be floating freely above their heads. Well now Alec and Simon’s spontaneous makeout session made sense. “What do we have here?” Flicking his fingers, he sent a bolt of blue magic towards it, zapping it out of the air.
Izzy wasn’t quite sure what to make of this development until Magnus’ magic pulled her attention to the mistletoe just before it was destroyed. As soon as she realised what had happened a smile spread over her face and she couldn’t stop a giggle escaping as she looked at Magnus before back to her now bewildered brother and boyfriend.
The giggle had snapped Alec out of the moment more than the destruction of the mistletoe that he hadn’t noticed. He had no reason to really think he’d been doing anything wrong and then, he pushed Simon away suddenly. He had no words for what had happened and he looked at Magnus, panicked that he had just fucked things up.
It wasn’t until the kissing stopped that Simon realized what had been going on and had he still been human the sudden push from Alec probably would have sent him flailing, but he managed to keep his footing thanks to his vampiric senses. “Uh...what happened?” He glanced from Alec and Magnus to Izzy, not at all surprised to see that she was amused by whatever had just happened.
Under normal circumstances Magnus probably would have been upset that Alec had kissed someone else out of the blue, but considering he was aware of this whole mistletoe business, he really couldn’t hold it against him, “Don’t worry. I’m pretty sure you had no control over that.” He held up the pieces of mistletoe that he’d retrieved from the ground, “I mean, otherwise you and Simon are very bad at being discreet.” He smirked at Alec, trying to reassure him.
Izzy, who tended to always take things in her stride anyway, moved to hug Simon, “Don’t worry, like Magnus said I am pretty sure it was mistletoe magic and not Alec’s sudden irresistibility” she grinned at him pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Just because there was a reason for the matter didn’t mean that Alec was relieved. He glanced at the mistletoe in Magnus’ hand, almost glaring at the offending, dead plant. Still, there was nothing he could do to change things and, at least, everyone knew the cause. He gave a shrug and stepped towards Magnus, “It’s still inconvenient.”
Magnus slipped the bits of mistletoe into his pocket, having decided to bring it to the Guild when he got the chance. It’d be interesting to see if he could figure out what kind of magic had possessed it. “So Simon, I have to ask; now that you’ve kissed both Lightwoods, who’s the better kisser?” He smirked as he reached for Alec’s hand, entwining their fingers and leaning in to give his husband a quick kiss on the cheek to reassure him.
At the question, Simon’s eyes widened slightly and he glanced between the couple and Isabelle, “Uh, we should probably start walking again. It’s getting cold.” Not that Simon really felt the difference in temperature any more, but he couldn’t very well answer that question. The obvious answer was Isabelle, but as it turned out both Lightwood siblings were extremely good kissers and Alec was his friend so he didn’t want to offend him.
“Which is Simon’s polite way of saying me” Izzy grinned, giving Simon a squeeze as they started walking again, “Which is good because otherwise it could get really awkward” she tossed a smirk at Alec before poking his side. She could tell he was a little annoyed but it wasn’t like any of them could have predicted the mistletoe attack.
Alec rolled his eyes at the vampire. “You know, it’s okay to say that your girlfriend is the better kisser,” he said. It was boyfriend/girlfriend etiquette; Alec wouldn’t have taken offense. Still, after a shrug, the Shadowhunter gestured for the group to continue on their way.
