It had been two days and the engagement still felt like a dream to Caroline. She was riding on a cloud of happiness, not even finals could bring her down. She honestly had no idea how she was even doing on her finals. Her mind was elsewhere, reliving the proposal, planning her engagement party, and the very beginning stages of wedding planning. Although she hadn’t discussed any wedding plans with Peeta yet. Today though she got to squeal about everything with one of her best friends.
As soon as whatever final she was taking ended she rushed over to where she knew Anna would be, a smile spread from ear to ear as she waited for her friend.
Anna’s final finished. The last of the last! It meant celebration time to the redhead, so she was planning on getting a Thai Iced Tea on her way home this afternoon. She knew that Caroline and Hanna and the others of her social group at the college may or may not be finished along with her, so she figured she’d keep this celebration to herself for now. Once everyone was finished, they should all go out for drinks or karaoke or something. But that could wait.
When Anna caught sight of her friend she broke into a huge grin. “You don’t look any different!” Anna teased, bounding over to where Caroline was so she could steal a big hug. “Happier, maybe?”
“Maybe?” Caroline questioned with a raised brow and a smile that spread from ear to ear. “I’m happier than I think I’ve ever been.” It was true. She wasn’t sure how long this post proposal glow would last, but as of right now she was on cloud nine.
As for looking different, well she was a vampire that would never age. However other than the happiness there was one other thing different about her. She held up her hand to show off the ring. “Different enough for you?”
Anna squealed. It was a happy, excited, giddy sound, and thankfully it didn’t last all that long. Just long enough for Anna to take Caroline’s hand in both of her own to examine the ring. “Oh. My. God. Care. It’s. Gorgeous!!” She said, then actually jumped up and down a couple of times in rapid succession. “I can’t believe it! You’re getting married! I might cry. I might actually cry!”
“I know!” Caroline could hardly believe it still herself. Sure they had briefly discussed it when her ring from Alaric showed up but she hadn’t actually expected a proposal. “Don’t cry! This is like the happiest news ever.” Of course she knew Anna meant tears of joy but still. “We have to go out and celebrate.” She would have said for coffee but it looked like Anna already had the caffeine covered.
“Yes!” Anna gave a little sniffle, lifting her hands to wipe at her face. It was a bit dramatic, as she wasn’t actually crying, but then she laughed. “Where are we going to celebrate? Do you already have ideas about where you want to get married? And when? And--oh my God, you get to like, look at dresses and stuff?? Do you have ideas what you want to wear? What kind of flowers? All of that?” Anna didn’t know all that much about wedding planning, but she’d seen some movies. She could guess.
“Uhhh, the mall?” She already had plans to meet Lexi for drinks later and it was a little early to start drinking. But shopping? She could never have too much of that. She couldn’t help but laugh at all Anna’s questions. “So far I’ve only thought about the dress. Hanna is designing it and we looked at a few Tuesday.” It was all happening so fast. “I’m mostly focused on the engagement party right now.” One thing at a time. After the party and finals she would really start wedding planning. However there was something she could get taken care of now. “You totally have to be my Maid of Honor though!”
“The mall it is!” Anna would love to go shopping! It wasn’t technically retail therapy… retail celebrating? “Oh my Gosh, Hanna would be perfect to design it! She’s so fashionable and creative! I’m sure she’ll do an amazing job!” Anna turned to walk toward the parking lot with Caroline, happy to carpool to the mall for some retail celebrating. But at those words, Anna stopped in her tracks and turned to face her friend, tears suddenly welling in her eyes. “Really?? I would be honored!”
“Of course,” Caroline replied. “Who else would it be?” Anna’s reaction though was priceless. She was almost as excited about the engagement as Caroline was. Signs of a great friend if you asked her.
Anna stepped forward and wrapped her arms tightly around Caroline. Of course it was Anna. Just as it’d be Caroline if Anna was the one getting married. That’s what best friends did. Anna couldn’t wait to help her friend through this amazing, happy, life-changing event. “I’m so excited!” And she was crying a little more earnestly as she pulled back. “Come on, let’s go shopping and we can talk all about it!” They had so many plans to make!
