Sirius was always trying to think of new things to surprise Lily with. He already had an idea of what to do for their anniversary, but that wasn't until December. This, however, was another anniversary of sorts. She'd come back in October, and he wanted nothing more than to spend time with her every single day since her return. It'd been hard to watch the dreams, to see her and James fall in love then marry, and he knew that he had to make every moment count here.
Sirius straightened his tie, trying hard not to make any sort of choking noises since the damned thing felt like it was constricting his breathing. A fancy date tonight, something out of the norm for the two of them, but he thought that she might enjoy it. He'd booked a table at the restaurant a few months in advance, a nice French place called The Hobbit. He thought Lily might appreciate it.
He drove to her apartment, a bouquet of flowers picked up along the way and with said flowers in hand he made his way to her door. He gave a few knocks, a half-smile tugging up one corner of his mouth as he waited on her to answer.
Being surprised by Sirius was something she always loved. They had been making sure to spend as much time as possible together now that she was back in America with him. It had been a smart decision and this year had been one of her best years so far and Sirius was a big part of that. The Dreams may have put her with James, but Sirius was definitely the one she wanted to be with here in the real world.
When he told her to dress up she made sure to go out and buy a new dress because why not? She took time to dress up, since she didn’t do it as often as she liked, and was just about finished when she heard the knock on the door. She dashed downstairs to let him in and her face lit up when she saw how good he looked at the flowers in his hand. No words were said as she looped her arms around his neck and kissed him.
He only had a moment to drink her in before her lips were against his. Sirius wrapped his free arm around Lily's waist, pulling her in close as his lips worked back over hers. He pulled back from the kiss after a few moments, licking his lips with a devilish grin. "Now that was a warm hello." He chuckled, only to lean in to kiss her gently again.
"However," he started speaking once he pulled back, "if we start that we might never get to dinner." Sirius gave her a wink and then leaned back to rake his eyes over her. "You look beautiful as always, love."
“Mmm, I couldn’t help it. You look so attractive,” Lily commented with a giggle as she stayed close to her boyfriend, “And you brought me flowers, so I just had to.” That was the good thing about having a boyfriend is you were allowed to suddenly make out with him in the entry way. His kiss was returned, a slightly blush on her cheeks, and giggled against his lips.
“That would be a problem. And thank you for the compliment, you look handsome. I just need to grab my shoes and we can be on our way,” Lily pulled away slightly, a smile on her lips, and moved to grab her shoes out of the hallway closet, “And I should probably put those flowers away before we get going.” There was a vase in the kitchen she could set them in.
"Well, thank you love." Sirius replied, a large smile on his face as he looked down at her. "I thought it was only right, besides, pretty flowers for a pretty lady." He chuckled softly, not wanting to let her go but Sirius knew that if he didn't they really wouldn't leave and lose their reservation.
"Yes, you should probably do that." He finally released his grip on her as she moved away, and took a small step inside her apartment. "I'll wait right here on you love until you finish doing what you need to do." Sirius wasn't exactly the patient sort, but he'd wait forever for Lily.
“Okay, it’ll be just a minute,” Lily commented with a smile as she dashed off into the kitchen after putting her shoes on. She found the vase, filled it with water, and set the flowers in it before depositing them on her kitchen table. She grabbed her purse and made her way back to Sirius at the door with a bright smile. He looked so handsome standing there and she still couldn’t believe that she was actually with him.
Once she reached him she gave him another kiss before grabbing his hand and locking up, “Alright, let’s get going. I’m excited to see this place you picked out.”
"No worries love." Sirius replied with a half smile, hands going down into the pockets of his pants while he waited. Once she was back, Sirius returned the smile and kissed her back. Giving her hand a squeeze, he gave a small nod. "I think you'll enjoy it." At least, he was hoping that she would.
Sirius led the way to his car, opening up the passenger side door for her and once she was in he shut it behind her. Rounding the front, he got into the driver's seat, and settled in behind the wheel. "One day when it's a bit warmer, and we're not going somewhere fancy we'll have to take the bike out for a spin." He flashed a grin in her direction before he started the engine and checked to make sure he could pull out.
He was quiet for a few moments, chewing on the inside of his cheek as he considered his words. Did he want to talk to her about it now or wait? Sirius wasn't one much for waiting, so he glanced over at her. "Do you want to move into the beach house with me?"
“I would like that. I’m trying to get used to being on the bike more,” she knew the bike meant a lot to Sirius and she was trying to get over her slight fear of it. It wasn’t horrible, but it still freaked her out a bit to be so open when driving around places. She flashed him a smile back as she settled into her seat.
His quietness was a little unusual and she was trying to gauge why he was so quiet when he finally blurted out his question. Her eyes went wide and her eyebrows raised in surprise, “What about James?” It would be a little strange to live there if James was still going to live there, but she did want to move in with Sirius.
"I'd like that too." Sirius did love the bike, and wanted nothing more than to spend more time out on it with Lily. He knew that out of all of his friends she and Remus seemed to have the most issues with the bike. That was alright, he'd win them over eventually. Maybe.
Letting out a long breath, Sirius lifted a shoulder. "I don't know. I mean, it's not as if he's home a lot and well, I think it's time that things change. It couldn't be an eternal bachelor pad, one of us was bound to find someone and it is my home." The beach house was his, one of the many things that his uncle had given him. "I'll talk to him, but mostly I wanted to speak to you about it first before I did anything." Sirius glanced over at her with a small smile.
“Oh my gosh,” Lily commented quietly because Sirius had certainly thought about this. They were getting quite serious now and Lily felt her stomach flip with happy anticipation, “Well, when you put it like that then yes. I would like to move in with you.” Hopefully James would be fine with getting kicked out of the place. She wouldn’t move in until he was gone because it felt rude to move in beforehand, so hopefully this would get figured out soon.
A bright smile pulled up the corners of Sirius's lips, and he brought her hand to his lips to kiss the back of it. "Brilliant." He spoke after he'd dropped their hands back down, and then let out a long breath. It'd be hard talking to James about it, but in the end he figured his friend would understand. If he didn't then well, that was a bridge he'd cross when he got there. It wasn't as if they'd really spoken a lot after the dreams had started, and then James had stopped talking about them all together. "I'll talk to him tonight. We could plan for you moving in after the first of the year if you want?"
“The first of the year,” Lily spoke the words thoughtfully as she tried to make sure that she didn’t have anything major going on during that time frame, “I think that should work just fine. My lease is up soon, so I can just say that I’m not renewing and start packing things up. I’m so excited.” She squeezed Sirius’ hand with a grin on her face. They were doing this. Moving in was a big step, but she knew they were ready for something like that.
"That sounds good to me, love." Sirius turned his head, flashing her a quick smile before his eyes went back to the road. It was a big step, but one that he was ready to take with her. Sirius had never felt about someone the way he felt about Lily, and he was ready to spend the rest of his life with her come to that. Still, it was best to take it one step at a time, and this was the next step he thought. Pulling into a parking spot in front of the restaurant, Sirius cut the car off and then turned to her. Placing a gentle hand on her face, he turned her toward him and placed a kiss on her lips. "Ready to go into The Hobbit and see what this whole dining experience here is about?"
Things were falling into place with Lily’s life and she was so thrilled that they were taking the next step and it would be so soon. Her masters would be completed soon and then she would be fully involved in her career. It was just fantastic and she knew that despite 2016 being a bit of a hot mess that things would be well for her in 2017. And now they were about to try out this crazy dining experience that she had been excited to try out, “And let’s do this, my lovely boyfriend.” She gave him one more kiss as they got out of the car and made their way to the restaurant.
