Ahsoka was at work, and Li was...doing something. Yang didn’t know if she was in or out, so she sank onto the couch in comfy bee-patterned pajama bottoms and a yellow tank top and flipped through the channels. Usually this time of year, she and Ruby would watch old Christmas movies together. White Christmas and things like that. But Yang was nervous about dropping by or inviting Ruby over.
Maybe she should invite Ruby over…
This time of year was a new experience for her. Christmas seemed to be so much bigger here in America, though it was possibly due to the sheer amount of people who practiced the holiday and the plethora of decorations around for it. Being a Buddhist, Li had never really done anything more than to give some presents to her friends that were Christians.
Li had been out earlier in the day attempting to look for some sort of job to apply for once the craziness of the holidays came and went. She still didn’t know what she would be good at. Waitressing would probably make her want to stab someone with a pen eventually. But she felt she could possibly get a job at some music store, one that sold instruments. Maybe.
She’d been in her room the last while doing some composing work on her computer. She’d been using her headphones so she wouldn’t disturb whatever Yang was doing. At least until she needed something to drink, then she emerged from her room and headed for the kitchen when she saw Yang on the couch flipping around the channels.
“Anything good on?” She asked.
There’d been a few things Yang had found that she’d forwarded to Li. Job listings and the like, and she’d helped her set up a couple of the job website profiles. She looked up and shrugged. “Depends on what you like. It’s mostly cheesy romances and feel good holiday movies.”
“I haven’t seen many movies, really. The majority of what I’ve seen are ones I’ve watched since moving here.” Li was the strange exception that she hadn’t been sheltered, she had simply been kept far too busy to have much time to do much else. Though she’d gotten a little more free time as a teenager to hang out with friends. Her parents had at least realized she needed some socializing and hadn’t kept her from that.
Yang sat up, and smiled. “All right. Lets go with a classic, White Christmas. We just need a little hot cocoa and a nice blanket and we’ll be set. How does that sound?”
“I think that sounds great!” Li said with a grin. There was hardly anything better than hot chocolate in the winter. Well okay, she could think of something better and it involved Ahsoka, but hot chocolate was still very good.
Don’t remind Yang of that, she’d witnessed far too much. She scooted over once Li was done, flipping out a blanket they could get comfortable under. If Ahsoka came home they’d end up with a Li sandwhich, just not the sexy kind of sandwhich. “I hope you like musicals.”
Li was more than happy to not mention that to Yang. She was still a bit embarrassed about what Yang had seen, and she tended to pretend that it hadn’t happened. Coming back with hot chocolate for them both, she set them down, then got under the blanket to get comfortable. “I do like musicals, so that is not a problem.” That was, at least, something Li knew she liked.
Yang now knew what both alien booty and Li's near perfect booty looked like. That was a very small and exclusive club? That's what she told herself, anyway.
"That's good, it's a fun movie. Kinda old." She'd put her arm around Li but then she wouldn't be able to get to her cocoa. Yang appreciated Li doing this.
It was very definitely a small and exclusive club. Only Ahsoka and Yang knew what her ass looked like. That was quite enough people to know what her ass looked like.
“I don’t mind old. Good movies are good movies regardless of age.” Which was true. Good movies were timeless whether they were decades old or only months old.
Yang grinned, and leaned against Li. She felt the oddest compulsion, like her lips were tingling, and turned her attention to the movie before she did something she’d regret. “Ruby always liked this one.”
Li smiled. “I am glad to know that it comes with such high reviews.” It was a good thing, and it was something she could focus on that wasn’t the seemingly sudden desire to kiss Yang. Which she well knew she shouldn’t have. Though why did she feel that way? She didn’t know and tried to ignore it.
A yolo life was Yang’s life, but sometimes that could be literal. But Li was right there, warm and nice smelling and soft. She leaned over, catching herself and leaning her head against Li’s. The heater was on too high, that had to be it. “That guy is going regret ever saving the other guy’s life.”
“I’d ask why, but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.” Li chuckled as she settled into the couch a bit more and getting more comfortable next to Yang. Yang was really cozy and warm. It would be so easy to just snuggle into her and kiss her. She nearly tried to kiss Yang, but managed to hold herself in check.
The mistletoe edged closer, right around the time the one character used the excuse of ‘hey I saved your life you should work with my plan’ for the first time and Yang turned her head towards Li. Something gave her a metaphysical nudge and she kissed Li. Oh she fought it, she really did, right up until her lips touched Li’s.
Li tried to fight the urge to kiss Yang, but it became harder and harder the longer it went on. Until she found Yang kissing her and something pushed her to kiss back. At least initially. There was an intense moment of wondering what the fuck was happening before her brain caught up with reality.
Yang moaned, torn between the very real fact of this shouldn’t be happening, and this was nice. It felt like a force was pushing at the back of her head and she couldn’t quite break away from the kiss at first.
LIke an elastic band snapping, Yang jerked back and fell over the side of the couch and onto her back. She caught a glimpse of something red and green making an escape through the vent. “What…”
Li felt like she was smacked as Yang jerked back and she snapped out of whatever haze she’d been in. “What the...are you alright?” She asked after Yang had fallen off the couch. “And what the hell just happened?”
"I'm so sorry," Yang said, touching her lips with two fingers. "I don't know what got over me. I'm okay. Are you okay? I’m so sorry.”
She was ready to beat herself up over this. It wasn’t cool. It wasn’t cool at all!
“I could say the same about myself. For the what came over me part. But yes, I am okay now. It felt like I wasn’t okay a few moments ago.” Li said with a slight frown, as though she was trying to make sense out of what had just happened.
“Like there was a magnet in my mouth. Not that kissing you was bad. You’re a good kisser.” But she felt really guilty. Yang hated feeling guilty. “I thought I saw something in the vent but it’s gone now.”
“Yeah, it was strange. It was like I just had to kiss you.” Though at the mention of something in the vent, Li glanced up at it, puzzled. “What did you see?” She wasn’t certain if this was an Orange County thing, or is there was something else happening.
And she was seriously hoping it was an Orange County thing.
“It was green and red. Like a plant.” Yang pulled herself to her feet, keeping a few feet between her and Li. If Li wasn’t with someone Yang probably would have been content to keep making out if they both wanted to. But Li was with Ahsoka. A jedi.
Who was going to kill them.
“A plant? Strange.” Li didn’t question it, simply accepted it for what it was. Sometimes it was better to not ask too many questions about weird things in Orange County. There were times when knowing the answer only made it more difficult to understand. And she also didn’t want to get killed by her girlfriend.
It couldn’t have been mistletoe, could it? But there’d been stranger things. “I’m sorry, still.”
She sat down and picked up her cocoa. “Do we keep it secret or do we just tell her?”
“It’s okay. And I’m sorry, too.” Considering Li had kissed her back. It was just a really odd situation to be in. “I don’t want either of us to die. But on the more real note, how do we even explain that?”
“I don’t think we can. Not without proof of some kind of magic spell.” Yang frowned. “You haven’t been doing anything weird lately? That might have backfired?”
Why Li would need some kind of love spell she didn’t know, unless she’d been trying to help Yang. In which case MISAIMED.
“No, not lately. My magic tends to backfire in more physical changes. Like I turned Raven into a blonde when one of my ice spells went awry.” Li scratched her head a bit. It was definitely difficult to pinpoint just what had caused it, but Li knew it hadn’t been her magic.
Yang’s hand went to her hair protectively. If there was one rage button besides her sister and team it would be her hair. “Do you think it was some kind of magic? Kisses are nice but only when they’re you know… meant to happen.”
“Maybe? I’ve felt magic that had controlling effects, such as making me fearful and run away from battle in my dreams. Magic could easily compulse someone to do something they otherwise wouldn’t do.” She tilted her head a bit. “Maybe that red and green plant thing you saw had something to do with it?”
“There’s a tradition, where you kiss someone under the mistletoe…” Yang pulled out her phone and googled it. She showed a picture of the plant to Li. “I’m pretty sure I saw that floating away when I fell.”
Magical mistletoe? She snorted. “Definitely wasn’t what I wished for. … not that kissing you was terrible. It was yangtastic actually.” She waggled her eyebrows.
Li leaned in and looked at the picture. “Huh, strange. Though I suppose anything is possible here in Orange County. I did not know about the mistletoe tradition. I’m Buddhist.” She had a lot to learn, and considering that Ahsoka was also Buddhist, Yang seemed to be the one to teach them about Christmas.
“I have to say kissing you was definitely yangtastic,” Li responded with a smile and a laugh.
“So we need to get you some so you can make it up to Ahsoka.” Even if Ahsoka never needed to know that anything had to be made up to her. Yang looked relieved. The last person she’d kissed hadn’t gone well and while that wasn’t actually Callisto’s fault and Yang couldn’t be mad at her for being her, there was still that whole irrational self-esteem thing that could get nagging and annoying.
Then she got a wicked idea. “I bet they make mistletoe belts and thongs!”
“We should get some!” Li said with a nod. Even if it was making up for the kiss with Yang, Li kind of liked the idea of kissing Ahsoka under the mistletoe. Though she looked at Yang and blinked. “Belts and thongs?” That sounded...very naughty.
“Yeah!” Yang grinned at her. “You know, for kissing below the belt. A little bit of cunning linguistics. Or did you think I mean a different kind of belt.”
She googled and showed it to Li and tried not to laugh that the URL was for amazon. “Are you two that kinky?”
“No, I didn’t think you meant a different kind of belt.” Li said. Though when Yang showed her the picture, she promptly turned bright red. “Oh...oh my…” She and Ahsoka hadn’t really done anything like that. Or really talked about it. But people actually wore things like that during sex?
Yang looked at the picture again, then flipped through some other gear of that nature. “What, do you want that for Christmas? It might be a good way to keep you tied up for the holiday and I’m sure Ahsoka would get in knots.”
“Oh my god…” Li almost squeaked as her face turned even redder. She hid behind her hair as she tried to take some breaths and calm down. “I’m not quite sure we’re there yet.” Maybe. She didn’t know. That was a conversation they’d need to have at some point.
Yang laughed, and gave Li a hug. “Not like I can actually talk, you’re more experienced than I am. Except for kissing now I think.” Did two different people beat kissing one person a whole lot? Probably not.
“I am?” Li asked, leaning into the hug and managing to find her breath so she could try and not be so red anymore. She was surprised that she was more experienced than Yang. Yang seemed like the type that would have a lot of people vying for her affection. Maybe Li should recruit Ahsoka and try to find a date for Yang.
“You are! I’m all talk.” Yang shrugged. “But that’s okay, I can focus on other things and mama bear you two.”
“I would not have thought that. I mean, you just are the kind of person who would have people vying for your affections.” Li totally thought that Yang was a catch. Clearly someone needed to sweep Yang off her feet.
“With …” she gestured at her arm. “Sometimes people can’t look past appearances. Or maybe I just don’t put myself out there more.” And not towards people who didn’t return the kind of affection she needed.
“People who can’t see past that aren’t worth your time.” And they weren’t. Yang was still a great woman, and Li was fortunate to have her as a friend. People that judged her based on the loss of her arm were shallow and missing out on a lot in Li’s opinion.
“I knew there was a reason I platonically loved you.” Yang finger gunned at her. She sank back onto the couch, looking around for any more evil mistletoe. It seemed like they were safe for now.
“Only one reason?” Li teased with a laugh. She no longer felt a compulsion to kiss Yang, and she hoped whatever it was that had done that wouldn’t come back. Not that kissing Yang had been terrible, quite the opposite, but Yang was her friend, not her girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Ahsoka felt a disturbance in the Force.
