Who: Lexi Branson and Alucard
What: Vampires randomly meeting
When: Backdated: End of November
Where: Starbucks
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete
The Christmas season was one of Lexi’s favorite times of year. She loved the decorations and the music and shopping for her friends and family. She was also one of those people who didn’t care if Christmas music was played before Thanksgiving, because since she usually started her shopping early it just helped put her in the spirit even more.
Today she had decided to hit up a few stores to see if she could cross her parents, brother and Stefan off her list, but first she needed to stop and get a holiday latte from Starbucks, because that helped put her in the mood even more.
Alucard didn’t mind the season or the cheeriness of it all what he didn’t like was the crowds of people who suddenly all decided they needed to shop at the same time as him. Or so it seemed anyway. Being British meant that Thanksgiving wasn’t really a big thing for him or Integra so the timing of Christmas songs didn’t really affect them. They were used to it all starting in November.
Pushing open the door to the Starbucks he got into line in order to purchase a giftcard for Irisa, being a vampire meant the sugary drinks and treats on offer held little appeal to him but he knew his young protege enjoyed it when she could.
Thanks to her heightened sense of hearing, Lexi was usually always aware of her surroundings so when the door opened she almost instantly realized there was something different about the person who walked through it without even looking. Her attention may have been on her phone as she loaded her Starbucks app, but she could hear the her person’s steps, but a distinct lack of any hint of a heartbeat. Which meant that the person who just walked in may have been a vampire and she hadn’t met many vampires who weren’t from her dream world.
Alucard was entirely unaware that he’d been ‘outed’ by the girl in front of him in the queue, outwardly he appeared entirely normal so he’d never had any problems and didn’t expect anybody to suspect anything while he was stood in a coffee shop.
It became obvious who the possible vampire was when the man stepped up beside her in line and she turned her head slightly to listen for any hint of a heartbeat, which she didn’t hear, “You don’t sparkle, do you?” She asked, turning a little more so that it was obvious that she was talking to him, a smirk upon her lips.
Realising the girl was talking to him and what her question was Alucard smirked and quirked his brow, “Thankfully not. I’d be a rather embarrassing example if I did” he told her, confirming her suspicions while hopefully reassuring her that he didn’t pose a threat at the same time.
Lexi’s smirk turned into a grin as he answered, “Neither do I, thank god. That whole thing still makes me scratch my head.” She had been right when she’d suspected he was a vampire and now she was extremely curious as to what sort he was. Sure, in the long run they were all the same, but there were obviously slight differences between the various kinds of vampires that were around the OC, “Hope you don’t mind my prying. I just couldn’t help but notice the whole lack of any sound coming from this general area,” She pointed at his chest, her fingering circling in the air where his heart was.
“I’ve been accused of being a cold hearted man before but nobody has ever actually noticed the lack of beating” Alucard smiled at her, “But please pry away, I admit to being just as intrigued as you are. It appears there are a number of different...variations around”
“I tend to pick up on heartbeats pretty easily,” The person at the counter moved aside allowing the line to move up, but there were still a few people ahead of them, which would give Lexi a few minutes to pry, “How’d you become one?” It seemed like the most logical question to start with.
“Dreams” Alucard replied, “The most usual way around here I would imagine” he smiled. He’d been lucky really, he’d developed all of the powers that went with his vampiric self without fully turning but when Integra had been gravely injured, he’d changed in order to save her and now they were both fully vampiric.
“I figured as much. I meant, how did it happen in the dreams.” So far Lexi hadn’t heard of anyone being turned by another vampire who had turned as a result of the dreams and she hoped it stayed that way. The last thing they needed were more vampires cause someone was careless.
“Ah I see” he nodded, “I presume you’ve heard of Vlad the impaler? A long long time ago that was me before I was caught and made to work for Van Helsing and the Hellsing organisation in England” Integra and himself hadn’t made it public knowledge that he’d turned her, as far as they were concerned it was nobody else's business.
Lexi’s brows rose at that, “Vlad the impaler? Like Dracula?” She certainly hadn’t been expecting that response. She herself had been created by an Original vampire in her own dreams, but the man in front of her was possibly the first vampire. The one who all the other vampire lore and myths were crafted after.
“At your service” he said with a smirk and a small bow, “Though I left that behind me a long time ago, in the dreams anyhow. My name is Alucard, pleased to meet you” he said with a nod as he held out his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Alucard. I’m Lexi. I feel like I should be asking for your autograph or something.” Lexi smirked as they moved forward, a little closer to the counter, “We don’t have an actual Dracula in my dreams. He’s completely fictional there. Our lines all go back to one of five original vampires.”
Alucard chuckled, “No Dracula? How terrible, yet fascinating. I’d be interested to hear about the original vampires and your version of the folklore” he added, he hadn’t heard of vampires not descended from Dracula so it would be extremely good to hear.
“I guess Klaus could be considered a dracula type, but that’s probably giving him too much credit,” Lexi had never actually met Klaus in her dreams, but she had seen him while she’d been watching Stefan from the Other Side after Damon had killed her, “I don’t know all the details, but my sire and his siblings were turned into the first vampires by their mother who was a witch, I guess.”
“A witch? Now that is a very different origin story. I like it” he nodded, he wondered if there were more different versions out there. It could be fun to find out. Maybe he’d make that his New Year hobby, to collect various tales of the beginnings of Vampires.
“Oh yeah, there are witches, werewolves and vampires in my dreams,” Lexi said as they moved up, putting only one person between Lexi and the barista, “All the different origin stories fascinate me, if I’m honest. The fact that there can be so many different kinds of us and everyone had different weaknesses and different things they can and can’t do.”
“I have to admit it’s not something I’ve looked into before but I will certainly do so more now” Alucard said, “It would definitely be an interesting thing to look into”
“It’s pretty interesting. Maybe we should get all the vampires together sometime.” While some people might think that could be a bad idea, getting a bunch of vampires together, Lexi didn’t think so. At least as long as Damon wasn’t there.
“Maybe we should. It could be very informative and who knows what we could learn from each other. It has certainly been nice to speak to you” he told her before she was called forward to take her order.
Lexi smiled and nodded, “I’ll hit you up on Valarnet sometime soon.” He didn’t even have to say that he was on Valarnet, because as far as Lexi knew there was nothing else turning people into vampires and other things besides Valarnet. Stepping up to the counter, Lexi gave the barista her order.
