Who: Peggy Carter and Veronica Mars What: Veronica has news to share Where: Peggy's office at the Agency When: Last week Rating: PG Status: Complete
Avoiding her pregnancy was no longer an option for Veronica. The first trimester was over, she had told her father. This was really happening. She was going to be a mom. It was time to tell her boss. Her boss who was also pregnant… and a friend. With an anxious smile on her face, Veronica knocked on the door to Peggy’s office.
She was well into her second trimester now, but Peg was still trying to get used to being pregnant. Her stomach had popped and she was now trying to figure out her center of balance again. There had been a couple incidents where she had accidentally knocked a couple things off her desk when she leaned over and moved too quickly. And the cravings had been horrible. Currently she was sitting at her desk with a foot rest underneath the desk to keep her ankles from swelling when she heard the knock. The idea of walking over to the door seemed too much, so she called out, “Come on in.”
Following Peggy’s words, the blonde walked into the office. “You look comfortable,” she said noticing the foot rest. Although she got it. Her feet were constantly killing her now that she was pregnant. “So,” she said walking over to the chair across from Peggy’s desk. “I have some news.”
“I’m doing my best. Carrying a tiny invader in your body is really not that comfortable,” Peggy admitted with a grin as she adjusted herself in her seat when Veronica came over to the desk. She gestured to the seat across from her, “Come sit down. And is this good or bad news?” That was really in the eye of the news bringer, but she was hoping it wasn’t anything like Veronica quitting.
Veronica had to refrain from saying tell me about it since she hadn’t actually told Peggy she was in the same situation, yet. Although that was the purpose of this visit. “I haven’t decided yet,” Veronica replied honestly as she sat down. She had warmed up to the idea, but this was never something she wanted or planned for herself. “I’m in the same situation as you. In fact, I think you cursed me.” That was mostly a joke.
“Well that’s never good if you haven’t quite decided,” Peggy reached out to rub her stomach gently as she adjusted how she was sitting. When Veronica said she was cursed that made her gave her a confused look, “What do you mean by that? I don’t quite think I’m capable of cursing anyone. You’d have to take it up with a witch on the network.”
“Jinxed then,” Veronica clarified with a bit of a smirk. Just because she wasn’t completely thrilled about the news didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy telling people. Although Veronica wasn’t the type to make some huge, gushing, announcement telling everyone she knew. No, she was more straight to the point. “Logan knocked me up.”
Well then. That was a whopper. Peggy’s eyebrows shot up and she just stared at Veronica in surprised for a beat. “What?! Oh my god. Wow….that’s -- wow,” she knew that Veronica was probably in the same boat as her about not being thrilled about the pregnancy discovery, “How far along are you? And am I correct in assuming this was not planned?”
“There must be something in the water here,” Veronica quipped. Although honestly it wasn’t all that unlikely given everything that happened in good ol’ Orange County. “About fifteen weeks.” Time was going by way too fast. “Your assumption is correct.” Anyone that knew Veronica knew she never planned on having kids. “Looks like mini Peggy is gonna have a friend.” Veronica still didn’t know the sex of her baby.
“There’s always something in the water around here,” be it weird dreams or pregnancies. Nothing about this place was normal, but Peggy couldn’t help but be slightly amused that Veronica was in the same boat as her now, “I cried when I found out and not in a good way. I scared Steve by being upset. And Mini Peggy would love a friend to have. You know I’ll help you out when I can.”
“I missed that part of the story.” It was hard to imagine Peggy crying, but Veronica got it. She might have reacted the same way if she hadn’t been so pissed at Logan. Still was a little bit. Especially when he was so excited about and all she wanted to do was throw up… literally. “You seem to be doing fine with it now.”
“Yeah, I don’t tell it often. I don’t think Steve enjoys that part of it,” Peggy wasn’t the type to cry much, that had certainly changed with the pregnancy (stupid hormones), but that was just too much for her that day, “And I’ve come around. Steve is a big factor in that. He’s just so thrilled and it rubs off on me. And now that I’ve started showing It makes it more real and I can’t be upset about it anymore.”
“I know the feeling. Logan is in the same boat as Steve.” As for herself? Veronica had accepted it. This wasn’t part of her plan, but it was happening. Of course there were still times she felt anger, mostly at Logan, when her hormones acted up, but for the most part she was sort of looking forward to the whole mom thing.
“Well, I’m just glad that you came and told me yourself. Keep me updated on everything. Take time off if needed and make sure to put in for your maternity leave,” Peggy commented with a smile. Veronica would most likely come around with more time. It was highly amusing to be pregnant at the same time as her and the two would cause a lot of trouble in the Agency.
“You got it boss,” Veronica quipped with a smirk. As weird as it was being pregnant she was glad that Peggy was at the same time. Their kids would no doubt be friends, and it wouldn’t be horrible having someone to bitch about pregnancy with. “But for now let’s go get some ice cream.”
